Randy Smith: An Open Letter to Butch Jones

Two open letters pop up today, and I get blasted by uncle Lou, for my dear Hazelwood letter in the RF forum, Yea, give me a break...

I don't see why anybody has a problem with Randy venting about it. And he got attention whether he wanted it or not when he got a gatorade bath and posed for pictures.
Don't care that he wrote letter, I have better things to do like come listen to Vol Nation than write a letter to someone I have turned loose of. Butch is like a hairy mole we had him until removed. Nothing left but a scar.

I know I had some fun at Butch's expense this weekend (Butch being the 2nd most famous intern associated with a cigar) but we need to let the hate towards him go. He came in, he tried but the job was too big for him....

I agree but would like to add that the celebration part of the job was not too big for him.....

Does seem a bit childish and begs to be asked just to let it go, but I don't really have a problem with it. I think Jones loved the attention from it and probably made a point to take the pictures so this piece from Randy Smith is probably only stroking that ego of Jones. **** em though, glad he isn't in orange anymore.

I really would have hoped that when somebody asked for the picture he have sheepishly said "let's don't do that. It's too soon." But whatever floats his boat. I'm sure he feels like he somehow deserved more time.
That’s the only problem I have with the guy.. he clearly thinks he didn’t deserve to be fired. I don’t hold any of the other stuff against him but he must be an awfully prideful person or a complete idiot to think he deserved more time. He completely ravaged this program, how could any sensible person think they deserved more? I mean the University took a chance on you, it didn’t work out but you get paid handsomely in the process. Sometimes you just have to realize it doesn’t always work out. People on here are always criticizing this fanbase for acting like a malcontent ex towards the guy ( and some people may) but I could make the argument that butch acts that way towards ut and it’s fans. There is no way he isn’t trying to be a little bitch towards us with all those pics and what not after the game.

"All the credit for the Vols' demise can't really be credited to you though Butch. Lane Kiffin had a hand in it and so did three years under Derek Dooley."

Nope, nope, nope. Sorry, Randy. What happened in 2017 was all Butch. He had 4 years to recruit his own players and develop them leading up to 2017. So 4-8 (0-8), and the mess he was paid to walk away from, is all on Butch.
Yeah, never mind the people that signed him to the contract and fired him.

Remember that creepy chant that bj and the players said on national t.v. before the Ga. Tech game?

bj Do you got my back?
players: I GOT YOUR BACK!

I wonder how much bj "had their back" while he was celebrating with the bammers?
I wonder how much bj "had their back" when the kid he recruited from NJ was recovering in the locker room?

I typically side with players over coaches, this is an obvious choice. Randy Smith's words needed to be said in a public forum, I am only a little disappointed that he held back. Smith could have wrote an article with more teeth.

If this is next year and Randy Smith/Tn fans are saying the same thing, then maybe you have a crybaby argument.

No one is a "crybaby" for giving our volunteer players a voice!

Yep, just think if gators don’t complete their Hail Mary we win and we beat USC on last seconds of the game last year, ole brick by brick is probably still on the sidelines and we are one more year behind and continued laughing stock of SEC
If we are beating florida, georgia and usc, likely winning the east, how would that make us the laughing stock of the sec?

In general you have a weak argument, however, the list of he people "that signed him to the contract and fired him" is too long to mention and they were not celebrating like a giddy frat boy with the bammers.

We will earn other fans respect when we field a good team. Crying about ex coaches and the stupid contracts we sign them to, makes us look dumb not respectable.
No what makes us look dumb and disrespectable is tons of so called UT fans selling their tickets to Alabama fans so they can take over OUR stadium...How damn humiliating was that to see on National TV in front of a big recruiting weekend?!?...Fans complain about wanting bigtime football and recruits yet refuse to do their part and show them what UT football is all about...Instead now those recruits that were on our campus Saturday saw nothing but crimson red all over Neyland because our fans left after halftime...How would you feel?...Now we got butch all happy because the new team he supports just smashed his former team to bits and is showing his ass all over the internet now gloating...Sorry but I am seriously pissed off about this.

Do let me get this straight, you complain about Butch Jones taking money....that he was promised in a legally binding contract agreed upon by two sides?

He's saying trumpet blower would have been back at 6-6 with those 2 wins. (very possible in hindsight)

The only 2 "ifs" were UF and USC. The only way UGA was an "if" last year was "if" they missed the bus and it was a forfeit.

"If" couldn't get that clown to Atl.

Lol, here we go blaming fans again. Nice.

To the point, a decade of trash football followed by a circus of an ad, hiring people that had no business being the coach her, followed by hiring people that had no business being the ad here.....thats why we are not respected anymore. And only one thing will change it....winning.

Nope the people who signed the contract and direct the hire are on a whole different level of stupid. Did you read my response? If not then continue reading.

I blame bj for celebrating a victory he had nothing to do with other than setting up the opposite team in an inferior position. Hence, the whole comment about celebrating like a giddy frat boy.

Two SEC wins wouldn't win the East. The point was, if he weaseled another win or two, and not had the worst season in Tennessee history. He might still be here.
