Sure they'll drop off some. But the only way they're going back to the wilderness is if they hire a Butch Jones type and keep him around for five or six years, which they won't do. Swinney, Pruitt, or whoever they hire next will still have them competing for championships year in and year out.
I'm so bored I decided to look at the content to see what I had chosen to ignore.... What could you put in one post to poke at Vols fans? So Alabama will be champions forever because they won't hire a Butch Jones and keep him for 5 years. Plus, they will take the Vol's coach so the Vols will have to hire another Jones. Did I sum it up?

This Bama Offense would slice up those Nebraska blackshirts.

They were playing a big lumbering 4-3. The speed differential would be un-real...

That Nebraska Offense would pound though.
I totally disagree, that defense was soooo fast. It was shocking how good they were.

Arm strength is only a small part of being a good QB. And JG is lacking pretty much everything else. I would take a student of the game type QB, ala Peyton any day.
I stated talent is subjective. Arm strength isn’t. Not disagreeing with your opinion as much as the coaches seem to have.

I got a last minute ticket to the game yesterday and dropped what I was doing to go. Made it just in time for kick off. Here are my observations.

The lines are 99% of the reason we can't compete with the best.
We could not get pressure on Tua and we could not keep our QB clean, or provide lanes for our backs.

Way too many Bama fans at the game. Can't blame UT fans but it was saddest I have seen TSIO of the times I have gone.

Our skill players are up for most challenges and can compete with the best.

Our team played timid and tight and some of that is on the coaches. Would have liked to have heard Pruitt own that a bit.

Not sure I like the direction Pruitt went yesterday with his recruiting and player discussions with the media yesterday but he should know his audience (recruits and current players) better than any of us. As a fan I thought it was an emotional response rather than a calculated one, but I know a lot liked it.

Butch is a worthless punk and not worth discussion of any kind.
Why should Pruitt own that some guys played timid and tight? It sure the hell ain't his personality. If anybody should own how this team is wrecked mentally...it is Botch Jones.

Yeah but it’ll be a normal team - not loaded and unbeatable.

They’ll go from lock 11 wins a year to basically what Auburn and LSU are now. Some variation of 8 to 11 wins. And that’s very attainable for the other teams in the SEC to beat.

Nobody’s “unbeatable”. Bama seems to be close, but I remember that loaded 2003 Sooners team. Everybody fell all over themselves crowning them the best team ever and then they lost in the Big 12 conference championship to Kansas State 35-7 and then lost to LSU in the Sugar Bowl.

SIAP Brian Randolph on Butch from the Athletic.

What about that made you so irritated?

I mean, just personally, I played for him. I had to sit through all the team meetings about how he can’t stand Alabama. Blah, blah, blah. He bleeds orange and all this and that. Then, to come back a year later — not even a year removed — and act like you won the Super Bowl and you left the program in such bad shape, it didn’t sit well with me.

It's clear that Jones has torched any bridges he had with Tennessee. Stuff like that does not get overlooked. Generally, alienating people that have worked with you is not a good way to get another job.

A lot of them hated him when they played for him.

Yes I too would take Peyton Manning over JG
Peyton’s lack of arm strength may be one of the most over-exaggerated things in the history of football

I mean after all the neck surgeries I get it. But when he went into the league his arm was plenty strong enough. To put him and game manager in the Same sentence is a disgrace. Trent dilfer was a game manager. Not Peyton freaking manning

It’s like people only remember his last season. Dude could make any throw

Isn't it common knowledge that it was his leg injuries that did him in? It was a strained quad or something that could never seem to heal up and hold up for his last two seasons, which impacted his entire throwing motion.

most everyone hated butch jones

he did a really good job though of fooling a few people that mattered into liking him which was what he did both at an administrative/AD standpoint and from a team standpoint

As my dad reminded me this weekend. Get over it, every West team has to play them.

The problem is that every East opponent doesn't and West losses count the same in determining the East as East losses do. We are at a permanent disadvantage to every other team when it comes to winning the East.
