So if you don't have time to make a throw, it's on the WR if your pass if 5 yards behind him? WRs run the routes they're told to run. The QB has to know where the WR is gonna be and get a catchable ball to that spot. This argument is beyond silly.
As for whether this play would be counted against him or not, we can't really tell without knowing the playcall. Either the pass was too far behind Callaway, Callaway ran the wrong route, or KC thought Callaway was running a shallower route and he threw it to the wrong spot. Given that he was pressured, the first of those seems like the most likely explanation. Maybe Pruitt will give some insight in his show tomorrow.
You do realize y’all are arguing about a play that was a dead throw away to avoid a sack and to avoid a turnover by forcing a throw. My goodness, there was an unblocked defender rushing to him. He threw the ball away like he should have. He wasn’t trying to make a completion to Callaway. There’s no way he could have. Callaway was in double coverage. Sometimes you have to just throw away a down because the defense was perfect. Can’t believe y’all are arguing this. Erik Ainge made his career on doing exactly this.
What happens if he takes a sack? Y’all blast the kid for not feeling the pocket or reading the defense. What happens if he tried to force the throw into double coverage and it’s a pick? Y’all will be screaming for him to throw it away.
My goodness you people have lost your minds if you can’t understand why the throw away was THE PLAY to make there.
