The QB Debate.... Post Bama (merged)

Offense just looks crisper. He gets rid of the ball quickly. He can check down quickly. JG doesn't see the field. He has a cannon, but he can't make quick decisions. He rarely gets out of trouble or chooses to run at the right time the way Dobbs did. He was supposed to be Dobbs 2.1, but he's just a drop back QB that is a slow reader of defenses and can't get out of trouble, can't throw a touch pass, and is highly inaccurate. Yes, he can throw high bullets that talented receivers can go up and get, and last week they got them, but most games they don't.
Every one of the long balls on 3rd and long last week were touch pass back shoulder throws not bullets. The offense looked crisper because Alabama really slowed the blitz down. How many snaps has Chryst played this year when the game was not out of hand one way or the other? His body of work is not enough to judge at this point....be objective here.

Well the game was in hand after 5 mins but they kept coming. When Keller comes in they let up. Right. Maybe it's because then knew JG would choke with the pressure
Yeah that’s probably it. How did JG choke when he is being sat on before he even drops back? He needs to get better at presnap reads, but he doesn’t deserve most of this criticism.

Body language? The kid gets hit hard at least once every series. He probably needs a minute to collect his bearings....apparently you did not see him last week huddled on the side with his OL. Nor did you see 2 or his OL one of which was Smith helping him up and checking on him after he got injured today.

I get most people are choosing who they want as the 1QB like they are choosing the presidential candidate, but c'mon the kid has taken more hits than any other TN qb I can recall. Rewatch and slow the game down and I promise you will see missed blocking assignments every time there is a hurry or sack.

I was at the game so I didn't have the advantage of seeing the extra in-game offerings that come with watching the game on TV.

But let's be honest, yes JG gets hit a lot and gets back up. But he needs to beef up. He seems to overacting and be dramatic when he gets hit...or he is soft...

Seems to me Pruitt was trying to send a message to JG to keep him on his toes. If he isn't going to perform or show value to his team, he may get benched. If he gets knocked out and has to go to the sideline, he may get outplayed and be benched...either man up and/or get your line to play better. We can't go out and play defeated. Pruitt has said constantly that we are trying to build a culture.

I have been a Vol fan since before you were born. If you cannot see that Chryst is a better decision maker at this time then you are not very knowledgeable about the game.

This statement couldn't be any more false. Factually, there is very little separation between either of them. JG obviously just has a lot more upside.

WHOEVER our QB is, with this OL... he must get the ball downfield quicker or expect opposing LB's to have his brains for lunch... scrambled, of course... and often. I did notice that Helton had KC throwing some on 1st down instead of going with the run every time. That was refreshing. This needs to happen more often in order to keep opposing Def off balance. JG was getting battered and had become ineffective. KC came into the game fresh and did pretty good for a 2nd stringer. Kudos.

Some Vol fans cant be objective. We have to tear one down to build up the other.

Think is has more to do with years of eligibility than upside, but 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Starting against the number 1 team in the nation is the very definition of a playing in Big Game. How you don’t realize that is mind baffling.

Just a guess but I think he means UT is not competitive in these games. So it's only a big game when the game is on the line against a good team.

It is obvious especially during today's game. JG only has upside if he becomes better at reading defenses. A QB's performance depending on his ability to read defenses at any level far exceeds the physical advantages he may have. Look at how many strong armed Qb's have failed in the NFL because they were poor in their decision making.

Dramatic when he gets back up....wow....have you ever been hit by a 300 lb man coming at you full speed? Lol c'mon man

One game (quarter actually) doesn't mean crap.

I think a senior has pretty much maxed out his upside. A sophomore most likely will get better. Seems like a safe assumption. Plus there's the whole arm talent thing.

That’s funny. You’re the second person to mention arm talent. I’m generally curious but what has been shown that their arms are somehow vastly different? KC has shown he can throw down the middle of the field while JG has been down the sidelines.

There has been nothing major I have seen that’s screams one having a much better arm than the other.

No, but I've seen more than enough football to see that JG goes flying when he gets hit and is slower to get up at times...wallowing in pain..more than others. Just calling it how I see it

I'm not calling for Chryst as the starter like a few others may...just saying JG has to work on beefing up more this offseason and do more as a vocal leader

Yeah, but he shorts or overthrows most of his long balls and he is extremely poor at hitting the fade in the corner of the endzone. Or have you notice how we have a such a hard time in the red zone and why?

KC gets the ball out on time. In this offense, 2.5 seconds is the time table. This time table is more important to keep with the O lines inconsistency. JG, holds the ball to long. He all to often doesn't recognize blitzes or pressures pre-snap ...there were several examples of this tonight. This in itself, make KC better . This is evidenced by his impact on the scoreboard. His release of the ball also made the offensive line look better. With that being said JG has improved a lot since last season and will likely be the starter next season. All indications are that JG has the locker room. I think the thought was to build for the future with JG. He has gotten better but still has a long way to go .
