Many times you hear about teams going ahead and preparing for upcoming games when teams play cupcakes.

Well in this case I hope we are putting all our preparation and eggs into the trip to Colombia. That's a huge game and a winnable game. It's really the game that I care about most of the next 3 game segment of the schedule.

Not happening.

Herbie saying he wouldn't be suprised if this is Bama's toughest game to date 👀
yeah, i saw that. and i get why he's saying it.

but it's hard for me to really see it. their offense puts so much stress on the opponent, on both sides of hte ball. you may be in the game w/in a possession or two, and you make one small mistake on defense, it turns in to 6 for them.

and at some point you start to feel like you have to keep pace with them, and that plays directly in to their hands as far as how they want to defend you.

it's just a really tough match up. i think i picked this game like 41-20 or something.

i think for it to be a 4th qtr game (w/in 10-14 pts), Bama is going to have to make mistakes on offense, that they just haven't shown to make.

yep. so long as they don't get the big head, they can really build off what they did last week.

maybe not this week mind you...lol....but going forward, i think they've at least given themselves some confidence....finally.

Yep. Bama will be a reality check. After playing the #1 team in the country, SCAR, UK, Mizzou and Vandy won't seem all that daunting. Get out of TSIO with no injuries, and they can hang with any team on the schedule.

Nobody on Bama's schedule knows the team better than Pruitt right now. Pruitt may be walking into a gun fight with a cell-made shank, but he at least knows the weak points if he can work it in close.
yeah, siap, he may have all the right answers to the test.

not sure he's got enough pencils to finish the test though. so not sure how much it'll matter in the end.

Wonder if they'll play the guys coming off injuries... or hold them another week. Sounds like all of them would benefit from a bit more recovery time.

Story on Alexis Johnson:

Before this season, Johnson had 14 total tackles in 12 games played as a Vol. Five of those came in mop up duty against Vanderbilt last season.

Through six games this season, Johnson has 28 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack. The senior spent Saturday harassing Auburn's Jarrett Stidhem, forcing him into an interception and a fumble. Pro Football Focus had Johnson with four pressures, a sack, and a quarterback hurry.

“The light has definitely come on for Alexis,” fellow senior Kyle Phillips said. “He has improved so much throughout his career here. He battled a few injuries when he first got here. But I'm glad he's healthy and he's playing his best football now. We are going to need him to continue to do that.”

So how does a guy who couldn't get meaningful snaps last year go to being the Vols best defensive lineman?

Simple. A fresh start.

“I feel like I have waited my turn and now I'm just taking advantage of it,” Johnson said. “It's always frustrating when you aren't getting your turn. But it's fine, I'm getting it now. I'm good.”

Johnson credits defensive line coach Tracy Rocker for the growth in his game and his confidence in himself, calling Rocker a “good mentor” on and off the field.

Johnson's story is not exactly unique and it's why I love sports. You simply never say never. Who doesn't enjoy seeing a forgotten guy come out of nowhere? In a day and age of win now and judge quickly, fresh starts can be just what the doctor ordered. It what it’s leading a lot of student athletes to transfer. Johnson's fresh start didn't come from a new zip code, it came from a new scheme, new coaches and a clean slate.

Johnson's story actually reminds me of another feel good in orange story of a fresh start. It makes me think back to 2009 when a guy name Dan Williams found his confidence when a new coaching staff found his game.

Williams had bounced around from defense to offense early in his career and had played a small role for three years. As a senior, Williams had 62 tackles and 3 sacks. His play earned him second-team All-SEC honors, and a first round draft pick. The Memphis native played seven years in the NFL, recording 221 tackles.

Johnson's play the first half of the season has him on the radar of some NFL teams. At 6-3, 314 pound with a quick first step, Johnson will get plenty of looks. The NFL always needs big bodies.

If Tennessee is going to get to six wins and a bowl game, they need Alexis Johnson to finish the year with a Williams like flurry. If he does his stock will continue to rise. A stock that didn't exist before a final year fresh start.

good question. hand't really thought about that.

that would be a pretty big tell as to what he really thinks about our competitive chances of winning the game...

I think that what people are saying is if you let the yard bully take your lunch..you're just his little *****. People are just tired of us being Bamas prison *****, and hope that..BIG..IF...this situation were to come about, that we keep our lunch and curb stomp the bully into the mud...
To be fair... everyone is bamas b**** right now

yeah, aside from KY's front 7 who i think is really good, but not quite to the level of some other teams we've played, i don't know we'll see another front like we've had to play so far this year...none of the teams left will be as daunting as GA, Bama, Auburn, FL, or even WVU for that matter, given how early we played them.

and i certainly don't expect us to finish, defensively, like we have the last two years where we give up record rushing #'s etc...

i'm fairly excited to see what we can do with the rest of this schedule, provided we can stay healthy enough to do anything with it.

Yeah, I'm thinking they might hold the injured guys out, even though they've been easing them back into practice. Sounds like they might hold off on playing Peterson, too, even though they've moved him outside to see if he can help cover Kongbo's spot.

Awful message to the team

Pruitt is smarter than that

I don't think they hold anyone out. I don't think anything has suggested Pruitt coaches scared. Think he has an all hands on deck mentality.... are you injured, or are you hurt? If they tell the staff they can play, I think they play.

He's aware of how important this game, this rivalry is. On top of that, we need to keep the momentum going after last weeks win. Which isn't to say we have a real shot of winning this year, but losing in embarrassing fashion as compared to a competitive hard fought tame speaks to recruits.

How have folks assessed Tuttle’s performance? Solid but not spectacular?

I’m no good evaluating these things unless a DL is in the backfield batting passes and sacking fools. Doug Matthews said early on he was doing well but hadn’t heard much lately. Noticed he seemed to get fewer snaps at Auburn.

tuttle has had a very good year.

the scheme change maybe takes a little of the spot light off the interior of the DL, but he gets consistent push, and it's not uncommon to see him playing on the other side of the LOS. same with alexis johnson.

they've both played well this year imo. both have gotten better as the year has gone on too.

What players are we talking about?

Tuttle Johnson is a deadly 1-2 punch at DT this year. With Bain being a solid #3

i think in peterson's case, it's more mental than physical, and htat move was just a depth move. i don't see him getting a ton of PT this week either way, unless forced to.

i think i find it hard to believe we'll hold people out. he said yesterday and on Monday that it's not every day you get to play the best team in the country, and the players are exciteda about. assume that's true.........why disallow that opportunity, if you're able to play and medically cleared?

i think the only way you maybe hold a guy out is if there's a significant chance of making a minor injury worse. past that...

i think he wants to give his players the chance to go see what they're made of.
