Question: Is it better for the Vols if Auburn tanks and we can potentially take advantage in recruiting? Or is it better for the Vols if Auburn bounces back and wins some games where our win looks better perception wise and feels better for us?

Let Auburn tank. Give me the ‘croots. It was a big win on Saturday. Our fan base will be the only ones who make a big deal out of it not looking as good if Auburn tanks - recruits will just remember 1. the upset and 2. how bad Auburn finishes the year. It’s a win-win if Auburn tanks imo. If anything we’re the ones who derailed them.

I’m going on Saturday to the game. I don’t think we can win but I’m going to support these players who have obviously given a lot and who have put in the work and who have shown that they’re not going to quit. Even though it’s bama they deserve a sold out warm welcome for their fight and perseverance. This game will not affect how I feel about the season so far no matter the outcome.

Auburn will certainly end poorly, but it doesn’t diminish what that win meant in its moment

No. Everyone would. They have put together the most dominant run in cfb history and are hated by everyone. If we even have a shot of winning in the 4th quarter, the entire football nation will tune in and root for us. If we won, it would be all anyone would talk about for a week and be discussed by every pundit in offseason. Might even win an espy.

Howard university my ass.
Exactly!

Nobody is gonna care 5 years from now lol, maybe even 2. Nobody talks about Syr and Pitt beating Clemson, terrible Stanford (40 point dog) beating #2 USC just 10 years ago, ect.

The rest is accurate but nobody is denying that
None of those teams were even close to being in the discussion as the best CFB teams ever put on the field..Alabama is this year...that is the difference.

Here's a mid-week conversation starter...if UT wins, where do you guys think the upset will rank?
It would rank as one of the greatest wins in UT history, and it would rank as one of the worst losses in Alabama history. That is enough for me to make it the greatest upset win of all time.

That team had it all. Steriods, coke, hookers, murderers and a quarterback that IMO is the best college player I've ever seen in Tommy Frazier.
And more steroids..that was the most roided up team in history. Those NU OL and DL mysteriously shrunk by 50 lbs when they left Lincoln..

Anyone got VIP?

I really wish they wouldn't say suspended when it comes to guys out for targeting calls. It makes it sound like they did something wrong outside of the game which is a whole other issue than just getting carried away in-game.

Can’t be discussed with peasant drinkers

In recruiting, there would be dozens of other schools competing for possible defectors in the event Auburn's season goes south. There's no guarantee Tennessee would benefit at all in that event.

We will get ours in recruiting, so I want Auburn to finish well. If we can’t be a thorn in Bama’s side, I at least want Auburn to be. If they tank and fire Gus, I have serious doubts about their ability to afford a top coach to compete with Bama. They say money’s not an issue until they have to shell out $30-40 million for a change.

no, there's not. but there are a couple guys that i think we'd have a good shot with, and they just so happen to also be guys that we still have good relationships with, and would stand a good chance to get.

i think about some of the guys that were comitted here last year, and left the class b/c of the turmoil....Jaycee horn has had a very productive year for USCe, Terry Dean has been a fairly significant contributor for FL....Cade Mays has been productive for UGA....

we wouldn't have to get that many for it to maybe make a difference. i mean, if it swayed OP our way, i'd be fine with Auburn falling off the cliff this year. and if it opens the door a little wider for a Puckett or Pickens too.....yeah, i'll help push them off. lol.

well, the $32M is just for Gus. no idea what the buyouts are for the staff...but it's just gonna be "in addition to".

then you're probably setting the floor somehwere around $5M for the next HC, and probably another $3-$4M for staff, at minium.

the guaranteed money for Gus would cap at i think $15M, and then he get's the rest in monthly installments...not sure how long those installment payments last?

so if you're auburn you probably need to be able to put your hands on somewhere around $22M the day you decide to fire him.

and then you're going to be spending north of about $14M a year to pay your new coaches, and the buy outs....until those are satisfied.

i'm ready for Auburn to be the new Tennessee....lol.

Exactly. If Auburn were to fire him, they have one chance to hire a sure-fire coach. Otherwise they are set for at least a decade of mediocrity due to being out so much money. That can’t be sustained as we can attest to.

Just for a point of reference, what was Butch's buyout? We had just extended him after 2015 iirc, but I don't remember how long for.
