Bigger signature win: Jones against #13 SC or Pruitt against #21 Auburn?

I don’t think so. It doesn’t mean you are all the way back. Injuries, talent deficiencies, emotional investment and remaining schedule play a big role. I think “signature win” means you won a game you weren’t supposed to against a better team.
that's fine. and i agree. i just don't get the need to cmpare the two games.

cause if we're going to compare them, and decide which one was bigger, i think it's fair to ask what impact did the game have on the rest of the season? they're both good, signature wins. but if we finish 5-7, like we did then, hard for me to say this one was better than that one or vice versa.

anyone that is, is doing so simply becuse one has CBJ and the other has CJP as the coaches.

Pruitt over Auburn at Neyland Stadium South is the SIGNATURE Victory .

Steve 'The Quitter' Spurrier always had a gag reflex in Knoxville after The Great Pumpkin sent him packing in 2001.

to me it does.
it does if you're trying to say one was better than the other. they're both "signature" wins by defnition. both have some context to them that mattered at the time.

it's yet to be seen if this win is the catalyst of something, or just a blip on the radar.

Gotcha.
Agree. This one tastes sweeter because it is more recent, imo. That SC win was HUGE when it happened.

A quick comparison...

2013 SC was 11-2, and in their 3rd year of a 33-6 run, and had, IMO, the best player in CFB in Clowney.
They finished 4th overall, beating teams such as #5 Mizzou, #6 Clemson, and #19 WI. Their only losses were VOLS and #11 GA.

Auburn, OTOH, is looking for ways to frame their HC to skirt the buyout. They may have been doing that before our game.

I’m only comparing the 2 games for discussions sake. We could also discuss, not argue, what are the biggest wins post Fulmer? The obvious take is ‘Who gives a crap?’ since we have sucked for so long. But what fun is a board without being about to discuss and kick around various topics?

That being said, I agree that the final record of the season is important in order for the signature win to have major importance as a whole. I think we can look at the SECCG in 2001 against LSU as a signature loss that began this downward spiral. Although the end of season record was good, that loss changed the dynamic of TN football and we haven’t recovered-yet. My opinion anyway.

I agree with you on that. I simply mean winning a game that you weren’t supposed to win. I think Dooley’s almost win at LSU could’ve that for him. Kiffin Smashing Ga was his. He also beat the crap out of SC and should’ve beat Bama. I’ll argue (a totally different thread) that he was our best football coach until Pruitt. He was a total arse but knew how to coach.
True. However, the more I now about Kiffin, the less a respect him as a coach. Plus, he recruited a lot of high rated players, but many of them had ZERO character and did not stick around very long. I think Pruitt will be our next SEC championship winning coach. How knows, he will likely be our next NCAA championship football coach.

That’s a good point. Wasn’t Worley the QB as well?? I was on a cruise in Italy and spent $140 on about 15-20 texts with my dad and brother as they sent me updates in the final quarter. Lol. I was shocked. I agree that was a bigger game but I’ll argue that this is a bigger win just because of the road streak, SECW streak, coming off our first 8 loss season and overall dynamic of this team. 3 weeks ago, we didn’t know if we’d win 3 games this year.

Beating auburn has always been tough. My memory takes me back to the second or third time I remember doing it. Secc game and before we sent bo packing

Let's pump the brakes a moment. Beating Auburn is always sweet and it's a good win but Auburn will lose maybe 3 more before the season is over.

That SC team ended up ranked in top 10.

Get this, Butch was 2-0 vs SOS. Would have been 3-0 if SOs hadn't quit in mid season.

Beating Auburn was yuge! We haven’t done that in a long long time. USCe was our whipping boy for a long time.

And that just amazes me about BJ. To me a dynamic QB and dynamic pash rush can almost hide an entire bad team. Dobbs and Barnett kept this team alive longer than it should’ve lived.

If that 2013 South Carolina team hadn't lost to us they would've won the East and played Auburn in Atlanta in what would've essentially been a national semi-final. They won 11 games and finished in the top 5.

This Auburn team looks like they'll be lucky to finish 6-6.

2013 South Carolina was a way bigger win and it's not even close.

For the record.

We were a 7.5 point underdog in that game.

It was around 15 for the Auburn kickoff.

Anything that may have contributed to the down fall of the Ole Ball Coach rings my bell. So I have to go with the 2013 USC game.

So we had a better chance at home against a title contending SC team in 2013 (-7.5) than we did on the road against a talented Auburn team (-15)? I don’t know. For me, this felt extremely unlikely because of the apparent talent gaps between these 2 teams. Auburn hs NFL talent on that Dline and our patchwork Oline held their own for most of the game. Can you imagine what we will do with talented players AND great coaching? Should be a fun ride.

I’ve got a feeling that we play Bama closer than anyone has to this point.

For what was expected and where we are at the moment, probably this win. But time will be the judge.

That SC team ended up 11-2 and ranked #4. This Auburn team is in meltdown and their next game probably will ultimately determine if they make a bowl or not.

What in his resume makes that a forgone conclusion? Comparing him the the two between he and CJP are definitely not a good measuring stick. He has been mediocre at best overall everywhere he has coached. I don't understand the Kiffen praise any more than I understand the Gruden worship. Big huge personalities do not equate to elite coaches.
