This is great stuff. Shows how MSU slowed Auburn down laterally. They used their RPO's and read options. We don't have a scheme like that, and we don't have a QB that can run like that. I have a friend who is an MSU alum, and he says their OL has been a problem, but they played well against Auburn. Stidham was not good- overthrew a wide open trick play and missed a wide open slant on 4th down.

It stinks Jalen Hurd insisted on being an out of position RB out of HS.

Classic example of a coach letting a kid decide in order to sign him, but it ends up being detrimental. Usually they get switched in practice, but he stuck at RB. Could have been an all time great at WR here and been in the NFL by now. Now, mixed legacy at TN, but will still get to the NFL
You think he would have excelled in THAT 7-8 rotating WR offense, LEARNING to play WR when Malone already knew how and it took him 3 years to become draftable?

RPO is a killer when used correctly. We wont have the same success MSU had unless JG decides to use his legs more. That Auburn defense is nasty

However, Fitzgerald is not a good passer. They did just enough with their read options with their RB to get him loose running the ball. Someone mentioned before that their staff was frustrated with Fitzgerald's reads against UF.

Fitz has been downright bad this year.

The Mullen effect imo

This Auburn game just feels like the 2008 one to me. One really bad football team, another football team that is bad but we aren't quite sure how bad yet, who will get briefly back on track by beating us before their season completely falls apart. Hope I'm wrong, but I think even a listless Auburn is good enough to win.

Possibly. But. Fitzgerald's numbers last year were not great either- 55%, 15 TD's, 11 INT's. He is a career 55% passer, so he is who he is, regardless of Mullen.

Additionally, I think Moorhead predicates his offense on RPO's, and I get the feeling it's a little more complicated to pick up. But, as a coach, you know you only have one year to teach your offense to a senior QB.

At the end of the day, they're still Auburn, and we're still Tennessee. They'll find a way to win IMO.

I respect that you hate that but it exists. The end of close battles heightens pressure, some excel some fold. It has nothing to do with what got you there.

Great performance? Definitely. Fumble when the game hung in the balance? Yep. Opposite of moxie that day. The pick at the end of the A&M game falls into that category. It doesn't matter what you do for 59 minutes if you fail when your team needs you most. Flame away ladies.

You are equally critical of Peyton Manning and most of his UT and NFL career then, yah?
