sooo listening to swain and he's doing his weekly interview with Chris Low, and Low just dropped something i had no idea about...apparently Fulmer went to Gus Malzahn in December to guage interest...and Dave Hart went to Mark Richt while still at UGA to guague interest before he hired Butch.

hm.

Went to Richt at the wrong time.

31-34 2TD 0INT 54rushing yards. You’re not going to find many better performances than that from a QB at UT especially in conference.

Great performance? Definitely. Fumble when the game hung in the balance? Yep. Opposite of moxie that day. The pick at the end of the A&M game falls into that category. It doesn't matter what you do for 59 minutes if you fail when your team needs you most. Flame away ladies.

I would imagine those calls are pretty common because all these coaches are represented by the same handful of agents. Basically you call the agent and say, “I’d like to talk to x, y and z.”

Youre cherry picking like no other. That’s like blaming Tom Brady for the loss to the eagles Bc he got stripped sacked by Barnett. Nvm the fact he threw for 500 with 3TDs and 0INT. That one fumble at the end ruins everything. His fault.

Getting strip sacked does not necessarily fall on the QB, that's on the offensive lineman. Dobbs was not strip sacked he was running with the ball. The original discussion before the late night jackals picked at the corpse was about moxie. JG has shown nil. Dobbs showed way more but had huge brain farts at the end of games that cost the team huge wins. It is what it is. I am not debating Dobbs as a QB or his numbers. I am talking about being a winner.

Yea, that’s what I was frustrated with. Additionally, the run plays were predictable. Have to mix it up. Try wildcat, misdirection, use jet sweep motion, rollouts, whatever. Also have to get guys like Chandler in space, which they did against UGA.

Defenses are too fast these days just to run the same off tackle, counters, and sweeps. I saw more misdirection in one Cowboys’ series Sunday night than I have seen all year with us.

You are starting to get this scheme/play calling analysis thing. Well done.

If we think we are seeing patterns as fans and armchairs, how do you think opposing DC's who actually do it for a living see it? We can talk about balance on first down calls. However, that leaves out the the game situational part, the personnel on the field, the formation, etc. Did we run the ball in 4 wide with zone blocking and a fake pass on a RPO or a fake jet sweep or a bunch receiver formation and so on? What were the results with each along with what D's were the opponents using when those plays were run? Who were in their personnel packages? Then, what did we do on second down and third down? Then, were there any patterns with all that?

This is far more complex than we make it on here. That's why we have to give Helton a year or two to know if he is going to succeed. My most serious concern overall on O has been personnel on the field. There seems to be very little feel or concern for getting the best playmakers most involved, like this is all a test and development season. If that's the case just put 4 wins on the board and keep practicing. The rest of us fans can just sit back and wait for the recruiting season to conclude to get excited or not again. If they truly are playing to win how can they not see that Chandler and JJ are their best playmakers with Banks in the wings for the same purpose? Callaway needs to join that group, so focus on getting him the ball in plays were he can display his skillset. Max protect, roll out, quicker passes, etc. with JG if you need to because those 3 guys plus Banks in the future are special. Just getting those guys the ball in space where they can use their skill sets should produce 20+ points per game on O.

Then you flip to the D side of the ball where we know the schemes are good and the overall play is improving. With Flowers out that means more #22 and slower reactions/recognition with average play skills. That dog won't hunt and we've seen it for 4 seasons. The opposing OC's look for him (and a few others) as a weak link. How does CJP scheme around him? That tells me there should be more Sham and Jackson, which means more learning mistakes with more athleticism to compensate. So which would you rather have in a developmental year? You can go position by position, but I've rattled on long enough.

Dobbs was (nearly) the only reason we were winning. That’s a winner in my books.

Yea i just hate that whole “winner” or “it” thing in team sports. So basically dobbs had a flawless game except for one mistake but that effects him being a “winner”. Barnett and dobbs were two of the best players to ever play here imo so I’m not ever gonna fault dobbs for a loss when he did way more than his part in offense.

Y’all know my feelings on JG so no need to rehash that lol

Any of you all who have been to Auburn before have a favorite parking spot? Right now just looking at parking at softball complex and taking shuttle.

If your definition of a QB with “moxie” is someone who hasn’t made a mistake to cost his team a game, that list has exactly 0 names on it

I respect that you hate that but it exists. The end of close battles heightens pressure, some excel some fold. It has nothing to do with what got you there.

Well sure but there are those that more often make the play to win as opposed to the mistake to lose when it comes to QBs.
