Give Dobbs clausen’s roster and coaches and we have another national title.

Do it the other way around and Clausen probably leaves early in the season on a stretcher.

Dobbs scored 40 freaking touchdowns for
Goodness sake. Without a QB coach. With Butch Jones as HC.

Just got our tickets to auburn game. Section 34 row 41. Let’s gooooo
Alright, man!! We have to meet up. My bro-in-law, @Sugaray13, and I have tickets in section 34 row 48, so we are very close to each other. Crazy small world. Will be nice to put another face to a name.

I remember that game well. He played great, think he went 31-34 or something like that. But that fumble towards the end of the game, probably lost us the game.
Yea he did, with like 350 passing and 400 total. Possibly, tough to know for sure since Vandy did win by 11 and our drives kept stalling in the 2nd half. Vandy scored the most points they’ve had all season and had 600 yards tho, tough for me to fault Dobbs for the loss

Ah idk. I feel like Clausen was the type of dude that would have found a way to win at South Carolina. Dobbs also lost to Vanderbilt twice. That's a hell of a foul in my book.
Clausen played really average or even below average in some games we won. Don’t mistake us winning for him playing better than he actually did.

Finally someone who calls it like he sees it. He also fails to read the defense before the snap and either is not allowed to change a play or just does what is called. MSU's Fitzgerald was chewed out after the Florida game by his coaches for bad RPO's and the next week he responds with an awesome win vs Auburn. JG needs to either show up Saturday or sit the bench the rest of the year.

This is the James Buchanan of hot takes. No one else on our roster is any better. Let the kid get some experience and hopefully after taking some lumps this year a light comes on for him in 2019. The other options give us even less of a chance.

Just not true. The quarterback might be the most important position in all of sports. Yeah, put Brady or Manning in their prime on the Browns ten years ago and I'm confident folks wouldn't be viewing the Browns the same way as they do today. Dobbs was awful against South Carolina that night. If he had played well, we wouldn't have lost.
Browns would have won 2 more games max. QB isn't even close to as important as people like you say. Look what happens every time a team gives a QB a max contract. They aren't able to carry the team to continued success because the team can't afford the equally important parts like ol WR RB and defense.

You can only carry a team so far tho, especially with the injuries we had that year. Had JRM, Kirkland and Sutton not got injured we’re probably looking at an 11 win season. Plus Kamara being out vs Scar and Hurd quitting in the middle of it
He was much, much better in 2016 than 2015. Hard to make too many arguments against him his Sr. season. Even in the Vandy game where he had a critical fumble, his stat line was really good.

In 2015, though, his lack of consistency passing definitely held the offense back at times.

With even an average O-line Dobbs would have had better numbers.
Depends on if you're getting 2016 Dobbs, or Dobbs earlier in his career IMO. He made so much progress that final year. All the experience he had finally paid off and the game really seemed to slow down for him as a passer.

Earlier in his career I almost feel like our OL being weak helped him at times (as weird as that sounds). Sometimes he'd turn plays the OL busted into big gains, but when he had time to sit back and make a throw he wasn't super consistent.

Pruitt said on his show, after Florida, "surely we have more plays on first down than running the ball every play".
Guessing that played a major role in the change.
Hoping so!

I'm kind of leaning towards the idea that our staff is still working past their relative inexperience offensively. But we've got a lot of guys who know football. They should be able to get past the growing pains eventually.

Agree, although I don’t think the play calling was great a lot of the time early in 2015. Debord hit his stride late/mid 2015 and picked up right where he left off - App State and a few others

That’s impossible. I was told it would take magic for us to change anything on offense to help us succeed

Good grief

Josh Dobbs 31-34 340 yards

Schurmer passed for 431 yards and the Tennessee defense gave up 45 points to an unranked Vandy.

... and you wanna lay this at Dobbs feet on a single play? I don’t even know where to begin

Last week was much better. Hopefully this is more of a trend.

I personally do not think its just passing more than running the ball, JG struggles to read the defense or the coaches do not trust him enough to read the defense. Throwing more passes is not the answer. In above average passing games you take advantage of all 3 levels of passes. Short passes under 10 yards, medium passes 11 to 20 yards and then down the field passes over 20 yards.
We rarely if ever use the medium or middle of the field. Defenses are able to widen their coverage and play tighter man since we do not use the middle.

This is probably the main reason why we are struggling as an offense other than the oline.

None of us really know to what extent the coaches do or don’t trust JG to read defenses.

I’m not calling for us to air it out and pass more than run or anything. I just think a little more variance on early downs could help the OL a little. I’d also like to see a little bit more misdirection and maybe the pocket moved a little here and there.

But I do like the idea of a team that tries to run to set up PA. I just think that at a certain point you’ve gotta make some adjustments here and there if your guys can’t do what’s you’re asking of them.

Not super common of us. The TE passes I remember seeing is always to the outside.

If it's that JG doesn't have time to read the middle of the field that's one thing. If it's that Helton dials up a bunch of out-routes and fewer slants/ins/seams that's another. JG can throw some bullets, I would like to see some more passes over the middle.. until he throws right into the LB's breadbasket..
