I’ve said it all along, I think Malzahn is the most overrated coach in the SEC.

He might know offense but he’s a piss poor game manager.
He did win the SEC West last year (the toughest division in all of CFB) including a win over Bama. I’d say he’s pretty good at coaching.

I don’t see him holding up too much longer.

Sounds like his own players are starting to question him as a HC.

I agree RS. I would have taken him as our coach if he were available. He gets the recruits and is always in the fight. A lot of spoiled fan bases out there.

Malzahn is a 8-4 coach who gets bailed out by unreal games against Bama by his QB’s. Marshall played great (+kick 6) and an unreal game by Stidham last year. No way in hell he is worth 7 mill a year imo. I woulda let him walk to Arkansas last year
It IS his job to land those QBs last time I checked

Ya know, he gets credit (rightfully) when his players play well. That’s kinda the point.

Maybe that's why we will l never hire you as AD

I don't know, the BOT seems to like the idea of not chasing name coaches and avoiding those large contracts, so he might have a chance.

They outbidded themselves with the extension. It wasn’t but a few weeks earlier in the season he was on the hot seat. Not saying he should be fired but he’s definitely not worth what he’s being paid and Auburn will end up regretting it

Gonna be interesting to see the temperature on the plains if he goes 7-5 and #5 being a throttling at the hands of big brother.
After being preseason top 10.

He took a DB in at QB, almost led the nation in rushing, beat Alabama and almost won a NC. Gus is by no means overrated. I would take him in a heartbeat.

But Gus' strength and weakness are the same. His unconventional tendencies will have him beat Bama one moment and lose to UCF the next. He's as likely to go 7-5 as 12-0. Folks love that when it's working, and when it's not the want him gone.
That’s what happens anytime you build a team around an up-tempo spread offense. It requires a dynamic dual threat quarterback and a good back to work well. As soon as one of those is gone it fails (see UT 2017, Auburn this season so far). And even with both it is very inconsistent because it relies so much on getting momentum on your drives and can leave your defense out to dry.

Until Cam Newtons grow on trees, spread offenses will be feast or famine in the SEC. It caused Urban to bail out with little hesitation.
