Maybe so. I’m more confident in this staff from a recruiting/talent evaluation/development standpoint than I have been since the Kiffin staff. Game day coaching - especially on offense - has not been very good but that can change.

All told, I still think we need to see a big jump next year and I’m confident that we will.

This is what gives me the most hope for the future. While recruiting is still the most important aspect, the lack of player development under Dooley/Butch is another significant factor in where this program is right now.

I agree that the offensive playcalling has been suspect, at best, but I'm really interested to see if it improves by the end of the season. I'm wondering if a part of that is the staff trying to figure out what they have at each offensive position, considering the lack of talent/speed at some positions and a horrible OL.

I think this is accurate, and this is what I was referring to a week or two ago when I quoted a post from LA Vol in which Fulmer was rumored to have been very optimistic about the season. From what I understand, Fulmer watched a lot of practices when Pruitt took over, and he saw what Pruitt saw. The roster wasn't very good, and rebuilding the program was going to take time.

I didn't say Fulmer was "very" optimistic, I said he was more optimistic before the season. And yes, he watched a lot of practices, as did numerous former players and donors, and players looked better at practice than they have in games. Many people are less optimistic now that they have seen the team play.

By this point I just don't think we have much talent. I think we have a weirdly inordinate number of badly overrated players that were also badly coached and physically developed..the triple whammy of suckitude.

I agree with this, with the added note that I still think the talent was worse in 2010 and 2013 than it is today. Not sure that distinction will matter much in the end, though. I’m sitting firmly at 5-7.

I’m saying Fulmer and others weren’t exactly optimistic before the season started. I’m not saying they had a change of heart after the first few games.

I really don't doubt the defense will be real good in a few years I just hope we aren't like Mcelwain and have 0 offense
