-David UbbenWR Marquez Callaway, LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. and S Micah Abernathy were all dressed out but limited in today's practice.
Head coach Jeremy Pruitt again spent the individual periods we saw watching his offense closely. He watched the quarterbacks and tight ends in route work they did and stayed with the quarterbacks as they moved over to work with the receivers.
The tight ends were without Eli Wolf who was working out on the side. One would assume that is why LaTrell Bumphus was back at tight end today after working on defense Tuesday. JaQuain Blakely remained on defense working with the defensive line.
On the offensive line it was about getting off the ball faster, with more explosion and power. The offensive line work has been heavy fundamental like fall camp type fundamental work. The same can be said for the tight ends in their run game work.
Defensively it looked like a lot of fundamental, back to basics work today during the open periods. Defensive linemen worked on leverage, staying low and small details like hand placement.
-Brent HubbsBlakely after working with the outside linebackers on Tuesday he slid down a spot and was with Tracy Rocker’s defensive line group on Wednesday. That unit appeared to work a good bit on run fits and gap control.
Linebacker Darin Kirkland and safety Micah Abernathy were back on the practice field on Wednesday.
The quarterbacks worked on the passing game throughout the open-viewing portion of practice by spending one period working the short game with the tight ends and the second with the wide receivers. Pruitt was closely watching both of those periods as he stayed on the offensive field for the second straight day this week. The receivers were working mostly on vertical routes.
On the offensive line, freshman Jerome Carvin continues to get extensive work at center as he's now the backup there with Riley Locklear sidelined by a knee injury, as Pruitt revealed earlier Wednesday. Nathan Niehaus appeared to get some work at right guard with the rest of the starters, with Carvin working with the second group at center. Niehaus also was at left tackle with one group and Drew Richmond got one rep at left tackle, so it appears the Vols might be moving players around here and there up front this week.
-Patrick BrownFreshman linebacker JJ Peterson was in a scout-team jersey on Wednesday as Tennessee gets an early start on Auburn this week.
