I wore number 26 in little league, playing 1st base and pitching (not at the same time, that would have been remarkable).

Also, Michigan was the 26th state to join the union, and also served as the first red herring to mask the fact that we had entered into our prolonged fall from elite status.

Bama scored 26 points in the last game Coach Pruitt was there. The first score against Coach Pruitt as a head coach, was a 26 yard field goal.

I don't know what this means!

Wednesday Practice Notes...

Fundamental work continued for the Vols on Wednesday in what was the second of three practices this week.

Head coach Jeremy Pruitt again spent the individual periods we saw watching his offense closely. He watched the quarterbacks and tight ends in route work they did and stayed with the quarterbacks as they moved over to work with the receivers.

For the receivers it was about vertical routes with the quarterbacks. Pruitt, OC Tyson Helton, and WR coach David Johnson were imploring the receivers to catch the ball at it's highest point. Even Pruitt was individually coaching Josh Palmer and Cedric Tillman on why getting the ball at it's highest point is a must from a defensive backs point of view. Understanding the why as Pruitt likes to say. Marquez Callaway, who was dinged up on Saturday, continued to work on the side Wednesday.

The tight ends were without Eli Wolf who was working out on the side. One would assume that is why LaTrell Bumphus was back at tight end today after working on defense Tuesday. JaQuain Blakely remained on defense working with the defensive line.

On the offensive line it was about getting off the ball faster, with more explosion and power. The offensive line work has been heavy fundamental like fall camp type fundamental work. The same can be said for the tight ends in their run game work. Obviously, both those positions have to move some people in the second half of the season. Of course, Tennessee is without Riley Locklear who had surgery earlier this week after being injured at Georgia.

Defensively it looked like a lot of fundamental, back to basics work today during the open periods. Defensive linemen worked on leverage, staying low and small details like hand placement.

Linebackers and defensive backs both did a ton of work on open field tackling and Kevin Sherrer was on his guys hard, making several players repeat reps if he didn’t like what he saw.

Blakely after working with the outside linebackers on Tuesday he slid down a spot and was with Tracy Rocker’s defensive line group on Wednesday. That unit appeared to work a good bit on run fits and gap control.

Linebacker Darin Kirkland and safety Micah Abernathy were back on the practice field on Wednesday.

Just letting it be known I miss Joshua Dobbs as the University of Tennessee’s starting quarterback.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming

I'm gonna go ahead and say it, if we had Dobbs right now, we would have AT LEAST one more in the W column right now and the back end of the season would look brighter... Guys, whether you like it or not, we need a running QB until we have an elite O line and/or WR corp if we are going to make noise.... it is what it is...

Watching the UGA replay...Kongbo and Kirkland are just bad football players. The injuries have just totally ruined DKjr..SLOW and SOFT is a baaaaad combo for a defense in your MLB..

I'm not gonna pile on Micah anymore, that kid is just...whew..

Haven't been on this week, work has been killing me--- any practice nuggets on Peterson at LB?

Work in progress. Came in very out of shape. He’ll maybe get some special teams run at the end of the year (using the 4 game rule) but this is looking like a much needed RS year for the young man.

Based on what I saw against UGA, Ignont and Sapp were our fastest LB's, They just weren't always running to the correct place.

The good news is I think I read Sapp is going to get more time over Kirkland, or it was hinted... Kongbo is just not good. Positive news though is it sounds like Ignont is progressing very well and we have Peterson and a few others to step up ... Fair needs to work with Thompson this week on knowing where the first down marker is and play to it... he let too many easy throws to the first down marker get him by playing WAY too soft... one time he had about a 10yd cushion before the snap and then actually started running backwards... GA WR just trotted over to the first down marker and caught the ball. He's a freshman and will learn.

No doubt this is probably a 7 or 8 win team with Dobbs a QB. Even with a good offensive line to win at a high level in college your QBs gotta be able to run some.
