I am to the point where I am willing to give him a shot. JG was average yesterday, maybe slightly below. The staff does not trust him enough with reads and progressions to throw it downfield very much. If that is our philosophy, let's see what KC can do.My issue with JG? He does not throw a good ball. Several times the play was there for a first down and his throw was off. Either behind the receiver , low or just plain uncatchable. The calls to give Chryst a try is not because he has done anything spectacular in his limited playing time. It is to try something different to see if the offense can keep a drive going. This team needs sustained drives.
I think the big difference now is no more Butch effect. But there are precedents as you pointed outLately UT seems to produce a bunch of guys who don't do much in Knoxville but end up getting drafted and/or being UDFA and making NFL teams and producing. Look at Jason Croom, completely mismanaged his entire career and now he's catching TD's on Sundays for Buffalo. Alvin Kamara was a backup to Jalen Hurd for a couple years and now he's one of the best RB's in the NFL. Plenty more examples.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if Callaway was drafted in the later rounds next year, starts for an NFL team, and has a nice career. Same with Taylor, Bituli and Warrior (whether they come out early or wait another year.). Thunder5 is spot on.
They have to fix the timing on those. JG and the WR are so slow to get through such a quick play makes it too easy for the defense to react. BJ was dang jogging. You can't do that. Not really sure why BJ is getting those anyway. Should be Ty, Byrd, JJ, banks, Jordan or Callaway guys with quickness or that always make the first guy miss.
Are we actually slow or are guys just playing hesitant and out of position? We’ve been slow for a decade but we’ve recruited fairly well. Something doesn’t add up there.
And it's taken him 6 years to get to this point. Not saying that it will/should take is that long.Stoops is winning with a roster of 2* and 3* players and walk-ons, with some younger 4*. But they play physical and have a clear will to win. The players do their jobs and play hard as a team. The Vols could do all of those things, too. Missing assignments, tackles and blocks and not capitalizing on opportunities to make big plays are all fixable. The Vols are capable of playing smarter, better and tougher and if they do, we can win some of those Nov games-- and maybe an Oct game, too. If the team needs motivation, surely avoiding another loss to Vandy and avoiding a loss to UK in Neyland for the first time in 34 years will light a fire.
Agree with all of this...definitely still a lot that has to be cleaned up; but, one thing to keep in mind, UK has something like 13 Sr's, plus Benny Snell, that start...I believe Pruitt said last night that the Vols have 5 Sr's that start. That's a very experienced team in Lexington, that has played a lot of football together.
Thomas, koepka, Simpson, finau (sp), Reed... All seem to have what it takes for match play. And I thought Johnson played pretty clutch today. He looked exhausted.
My guess is he put everything he had into the playoffs.
I think you give Tiger one more Ryder cup (assuming he is playing well enough) on home soil and then he’s done. Phil is beyond done.

Just that there's a big difference in where the two programs are...
Agreed. Just saying that's a big difference in where our programs are. If nothing else you can say UK is definitely more mature of a program than us right now.It took 6 years to get there with a roster of lowly-ranked players. Recruiting out of it-- which wasn't an immediate option at UK-- is much quicker. Stoops and Butch started the same year. Stoops had UK playing better than UT last year-- and he started with nothing and built ground-up.
