My issue with JG? He does not throw a good ball. Several times the play was there for a first down and his throw was off. Either behind the receiver , low or just plain uncatchable. The calls to give Chryst a try is not because he has done anything spectacular in his limited playing time. It is to try something different to see if the offense can keep a drive going. This team needs sustained drives.
I am to the point where I am willing to give him a shot. JG was average yesterday, maybe slightly below. The staff does not trust him enough with reads and progressions to throw it downfield very much. If that is our philosophy, let's see what KC can do.

Lately UT seems to produce a bunch of guys who don't do much in Knoxville but end up getting drafted and/or being UDFA and making NFL teams and producing. Look at Jason Croom, completely mismanaged his entire career and now he's catching TD's on Sundays for Buffalo. Alvin Kamara was a backup to Jalen Hurd for a couple years and now he's one of the best RB's in the NFL. Plenty more examples.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Callaway was drafted in the later rounds next year, starts for an NFL team, and has a nice career. Same with Taylor, Bituli and Warrior (whether they come out early or wait another year.). Thunder5 is spot on.
I think the big difference now is no more Butch effect. But there are precedents as you pointed out

They have to fix the timing on those. JG and the WR are so slow to get through such a quick play makes it too easy for the defense to react. BJ was dang jogging. You can't do that. Not really sure why BJ is getting those anyway. Should be Ty, Byrd, JJ, banks, Jordan or Callaway guys with quickness or that always make the first guy miss.

Yeah man. This seemed most obvious to me last night. On quick outs, come backs, and back shoulder throws, it seemed Fromm had the ball out and on the way before the receiver even turned around. When UT ran those plays, it all seemed like it was in slow-mo and there was a DB right there to make the hit as soon as the ball got there.

Are we actually slow or are guys just playing hesitant and out of position? We’ve been slow for a decade but we’ve recruited fairly well. Something doesn’t add up there.

This is what I'm wondering as well. I have yet to watch a game remotely sober, and after the fact, can't bare to re watch. I missed yesterday's game bc of my sons 12u game.
Are our boys really slow like Hank says, or a step behind from not fully understanding new assignments and new scheme?
I will say, closing speed has looked suspect at times.
The only one I've seen that is just flat out slow, is Kongbo.

I thought our LBers over pursued the run...especially Bituli and Kongbo. UGA would run a slant right and Bituli and Kongbo would pursue laterally. The RBs would cut back and hit the hole Bituli vacated or get to the outside because Kongbo went inside. UGA's LT would seal Kongbo to the inside when he over pursued. Cutbacks killed us all day...almost by design.

Stoops is winning with a roster of 2* and 3* players and walk-ons, with some younger 4*. But they play physical and have a clear will to win. The players do their jobs and play hard as a team. The Vols could do all of those things, too. Missing assignments, tackles and blocks and not capitalizing on opportunities to make big plays are all fixable. The Vols are capable of playing smarter, better and tougher and if they do, we can win some of those Nov games-- and maybe an Oct game, too. If the team needs motivation, surely avoiding another loss to Vandy and avoiding a loss to UK in Neyland for the first time in 34 years will light a fire.
And it's taken him 6 years to get to this point. Not saying that it will/should take is that long.

Just that there's a big difference in where the two programs are...

Agree with all of this...definitely still a lot that has to be cleaned up; but, one thing to keep in mind, UK has something like 13 Sr's, plus Benny Snell, that start...I believe Pruitt said last night that the Vols have 5 Sr's that start. That's a very experienced team in Lexington, that has played a lot of football together.

Yep, UK is playing experienced guys, and I'm not dismissing that. But UT has talent, too, even though our guys don't always play like it. While the Vols are at a disadvantage against teams like UGA, Auburn and Bama, they should be able to compete four qtrs with teams like UK, Vandy, Mizzou and SCAR. Those aren't auto-wins for the other teams. If the Vols stop beating themselves, they can beat other teams.

I'm also not discounting UK's grit and determination. UK players are on a mission and their want-to is an advantage unless the Vols can match it. Want-to hasn't been our strong suit-- but that can change. To me, a welcome sign of progress would be the determination to defend our house against weaker, equal or even slightly better opponents. Not allowing any more historic beatdowns would be another.

He looked exhausted.

My guess is he put everything he had into the playoffs.

I think you give Tiger one more Ryder cup (assuming he is playing well enough) on home soil and then he’s done. Phil is beyond done.
Thomas, koepka, Simpson, finau (sp), Reed... All seem to have what it takes for match play. And I thought Johnson played pretty clutch today.

Tiger and Phil probably shouldn't play in then again unless something changes with their games in the next two years.

Fowler and speith can play, but pairings will matter with them.

Dechambeau... He may be too scarred to be any help. Same for bubba.

And whoever is the next Captain, needs to make better decisions.

I'd like to see guys like Charlie Hoffman or Kevin kisner get a shot. If you want a veteran presence, guys like kuchar or Zach Johnson are solid.

LMAO at you people making excuses for Tiger and diddling all over him... he's a punk who had the world in the palm of his hand and made bad choices and has to live with them. He's been trying to come back for years. He was a phenomenal golfer, one of a kind, but not anymore. Show me another golfer who accomplished that much, with that much power, who went that far off the cliff...

It took 6 years to get there with a roster of lowly-ranked players. Recruiting out of it-- which wasn't an immediate option at UK-- is much quicker. Stoops and Butch started the same year. Stoops had UK playing better than UT last year-- and he started with nothing and built ground-up.

Agreed. Just saying that's a big difference in where our programs are. If nothing else you can say UK is definitely more mature of a program than us right now.

UK is playing with a physicality and mental edge that UT doesn't have right now. Snell has ignited that team and they rally around him. But even with our obvious shortcomings, the Vols can put together some good wins down the stretch. Not sure they will, but I believe they have the coaching and talent to do it. Confidence and leadership would go a long way.
