Liked the effort, especially on defense.
I gotta say tho, dkjr is struggling. He missed several tackles where he got good contact.

The punt team penalties we're just bad.

Offensively wet showed some signs of life, but we still have a ways to go.

Biggest things I see from yesterday... Still got started slow. And we don't know how to finish.

And not gonna lie, Pruitt got me in the feelz in his post game presser. Easy to see why players love that guy.

I think the bye is good at this point. I'll be interested to see what Kind of adjustments we make over the next two weeks.

Lastly, made it to the bye relatively healthy... Big positive there.

DKjr is not getting to the ball quick enough. You are not going to bring down a 220-lb RB or a 250-lb TE by diving at them from the side. If you can't get in front of them and form tackle the ball carrier is going to run right through your arm tackle.

Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser. I'd kill to have Franklin down here.
Franklin is a good coach but it's not because he's thin skinned and too soft to handle fan criticism.
His coaching record would be the exact same if he didn't act like a b**** off the field.
Maybe he can start keeping a list of people that offend him, ala Jones.

Stoops has UK playing tough football. Butch Jones had us playing finesse football for the last five years. 9 times out of 10, tough football will beat finesse. Muschamp is not a great coach, but that’s why he had Jones’s number every time. Pruitt just isn’t through shaking off all the finesse yet. I think he will. We’ll always have a good chance vs. UK, but as of right now they should be favored.

They'll be favored because of their record, but the Vols are capable of playing tougher. One of UK's biggest advantages is they want to win, believe they can and play like it. We're not there yet, but we can get there.

It's possible UK could be the signature win this season if things play out... Lol

I’m a serious fan of about 7 years or so but followed em as a kid..

I’ve never felt this good about a loss. I take em hard too.

There’s hope

A couple of things Tim Priest mentioned yesterday:

1. He said until the defense was gassed, he did not see a lot of instances where UGA RB’s fell forward. Noticed a lot of plays where we drove them backward. He said that was encouraging to him.

2. He was frustrated with the OL’s inability to get push.

3. On defense he said our LB’s just weren’t fast enough. On multiple plays where they dive to make a play their head was behind the body of the runner so the runner was not impacted by the tackle attempt. I imagine that is something recruiting will have to fix.

I agree. We look to be getting tougher every game. But the finesse still lingers, especially at OL. And I am not saying UK will beat us, just saying that’s the difference between us and them right now, toughness vs. finesse.

I like the fight this team came out with and kept through the entire game, even after the debacle in Knox last week...

We have some young talent that needs to continue to be really coached up and watched and they will be special players the next 3yrs for us.

Fair needs to work with our younger DB's (Thompson) on where they need to be on third down. 3-4 times they played way too soft and didn't know where the first down marker was. If they played just a little tighter, they would have kept them from the easy dink and dunk at the marker by the sidelines. This can easily be fixed with game tape.

At this point, all we can do is hope our O line improves a little each week and stays healthy. We all know by now what we have to work with, and it is barely serviceable. You would think Helton would get this by now after game 5.

JG tries his best each play and has heart, but he is just always going to be an average QB who struggles to go through progressions and stares down his primary, almost just waiting for them to come out of their route. Again, Helton should see this by now and adjust the offense accordingly.

Plays in open space worked for us against the #2 team in the country. We can now see just give some of our athletes a little space to work with/maneuver, and they can make some guys miss and get some yards. Helton, I'm looking at you.

For goodness sakes, we have absolutely nothing to lose at this point, PLEASE run even a simple offense that is not predictable. In 2018, even with the talent we have, we can throw on first, run a TE out on 2nd, RRO on third, etc... whatever, just mix it up...just don't let them stack the box or we are toast.

We stay healthy, QUIT MAKING SO MANY BACKBREAKING MISTAKES during the games, keep everyone dialed in and BOUGHT in, continue to improve and change up the offense, and we may just win 5. If we clean things up and catch someone sleeping or God forbid a play or two go OUR WAY, maybe we sneak 6.

Defense is on track, but tackling and DB placement must improve.

Helton MUST ADAPT, and NOW, or he will be this team's Achilles heel.

I'm not even counting the second part of the 4th quarter from an evaluation standpoint because our D was so tired from being out there all day with little depth, it just didn't matter.

I'm going to say that's more of reaction with this still being a relatively new defense. Could recruiting fix it. Sure but for now it's the players needing to trust their instincts and run the play accordingly

Stoops is winning with a roster of 2* and 3* players and walk-ons, with some younger 4*. But they play physical and have a clear will to win. The players do their jobs and play hard as a team. The Vols could do all of those things, too. Missing assignments, tackles and blocks and not capitalizing on opportunities to make big plays are all fixable. The Vols are capable of playing smarter, better and tougher and if they do, we can win some of those Nov games-- and maybe an Oct game, too. If the team needs motivation, surely avoiding another loss to Vandy and avoiding a loss to UK in Neyland for the first time in 34 years will light a fire.
Agree with all of this...definitely still a lot that has to be cleaned up; but, one thing to keep in mind, UK has something like 13 Sr's, plus Benny Snell, that start...I believe Pruitt said last night that the Vols have 5 Sr's that start. That's a very experienced team in Lexington, that has played a lot of football together.

Lol no I conceded losses to bama, aubby and Georgia

That's not how it works. Living in the process is a mindset. You focus on the small steps, the details. Success comes from working towards the goal, not accomplishing it. When you count it as a loss, what's the point of showing up at all.

Even as a fan, your mindset impacts your game experience. How you do anything is how you do everything.

They have to fix the timing on those. JG and the WR are so slow to get through such a quick play makes it too easy for the defense to react. BJ was dang jogging. You can't do that. Not really sure why BJ is getting those anyway. Should be Ty, Byrd, JJ, banks, Jordan or Callaway guys with quickness or that always make the first guy miss.

@csprig9 I get where you are coming from. I'm a realist too. But anything can happen in on any given Saturday. I never would have thought we would be a field goal away from Bama when Kiffin was here. I never thought Butch would pull it off against Georgia, SC, or Florida.

Priest is spot on. There are small things not noticeable to the normal eye when just watching the game live that this team specifically on defense is improving.

Early in season Pruitt harped on not playing the ball in secondary. We have guys playing on the ball now. Should have a few more INTs than we do but I think those will start coming because it's more of not catching the ball is the problem. We are putting ourselves in position now and that's step 1.

He also harped on when we made tackles we fell back instead of making them fall backwards. I would have to go back to watch but if we are doing that now like priest says that's another big/small change.

I agree our Lbs are slow. Bituli and Kirkland are not fast enough in the middle and it shows up on plays like the Nauta fumble return and Fields First half TD. Kirkland was a step behind on both. The Fields TD should have been blown up. Johnson took out the guy and pushed it back and we didn't have a Lb there to clean up the rest. Kirkland was step behind and missed tackle.

I like that we are starting to see ignont get more serious run past 2 games. He is getting in there. He could eventually steal a spot there IMO. JJ not being ready hurts
