Extra Points?

I just don’t understand why Tennessee doesn’t have a better call/play to almost insure a 2 point conversion. Most Teams have a couple; at least.

Getting three - 2 point conversations is extremely unlikely but the thinking was to tie as quickly as possible. 3X8 points, (thanks Gary)😂.
But because we missed on the first, we had 12, UGA 24. So he went for 2 the second time to make it a 10 point game. Needing one TD and a FG to tie.

Personally, the chances were so unlikely I would have just kicked the extra point each time. But I get the math.

I would've gone for 1...I'm more in the school of just going for two in the fourth quarter...but, either way, not a big deal, right now, anyway...:D

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was playing to win. It didn't work, but kicking the extra point would have gotten us the same result.

I'm excited CJP plays to win. He goes for it on 4th and short. He kicks onside when he thinks we need it. He goes for 2 if that gives us the best chance to win.

I'm behind his decisions 100%. Even when they don't go as planned.

Given the score and you didnt cross midfield in the first half you get what you can when you can.

If you had been moving the ball and just not converting, or your D was holding up after a rough start and you knew there were several more possessions left, it makes more sense to take the 1.

Much ado

I understood the first one, can if you get it, its a 2 score game technically. I didnt understand the second one though. But then again its really doesn't matter.
Getting the second put it back to needing a FG. Didnt matter, no, but Im always up for getting a 2 point play practice in during meaningless TDs.

I dont remember the scoring combination s at the moment but it seems like one point would have been the better option. If I remember correctly, had we gotten one point there, we would have been down 11, 1 td + a 2pc + field goal

The first 2 pt attempt was logical. The second attempt was Butch-level coaching. Two outcomes could exist. The more likely scenario is that you fail (2 pt attempts are less than 50% successful). That leaves you at 12 down, requiring two touchdowns. Kicking the PAT would leave you down 11 which is a TD (with 2 point) and a FG. Even had the two point attempt been successful, you would still need a td and a fg. The only difference is that the td would just require a kick at that point. So, the decision to go for 2 at 24-12 created a statistically probable unfavorable scenario (2 tds required vs. a td and a fg). Good coaches-- all NFL coaches-- know to always delay chasing the points until absolutely necessary. It was a strategic mistake, and it is faulty to try to spin it with platitudes about being aggressive and trying to win. However, it ultimately did not matter, and it does not mean that Pruitt won't be able to get the job done. But it was a mistake.

If it's 6 to 24, you need 7, 8, and 3, ideally.

Whether you try to get 8 on the first touchdown or the second one doesn't make a difference. Traditional thinking says go for two on the last one. But like you said, it really doesn't matter.

Yeah I got you, I meant the 2nd td, when we had 12.

The 2nd one was to make it a 10 point game. Going for 1 means you need 2 TDs to win, getting the 2 means you need a TD and a field goal. If you go for it and don’t get it then it’s a wash with just kicking the field goal because 2 TDs still wins it. It was absolutely the correct call. No real argument against it.

Try thinking through this again. Going for 1 at 24-12 makes it 24-13, which is an 8 pt td and fg, not two touchdowns as you indicate. It was absolutely the *wrong* call.

Putting the ball right into the hands of the receiver is ensuring two points.

A team that plays to win, doesn't think attempts to score to that end is a sin.
