I don’t think they hate him or anything and of course everyone is going to overreact like I’m saying something super controversial, but I think it’s been well established that he’s had a hard time leading and getting the team to get behind him. It may not even be a reflection on him necessarily. You could very easily argue we just have a bunch of guys who want to do their own thing and not get on the same page.
When you say his teammates don't respect him, you should expect strong reactions. I don't think anyone has over reacted to that statement.

agreed. there's a lot of "ho hum" on this team. i don't know that anyone is invested enough to hate on another teammate that may not be doing their part or, percieved to not be doing so.

and i don't want it come off like a referendum on the mental fragility of this team or the GAS level on the whole, but i do get what you're saying. i don't think this team, mentally, is in a place where they can "find it" mid stream.

I don't know if this actually helps you guys out but this was Pruitt on Vol Calls Wednesday night. He said he talked with JG right before coming to Calhoun's about having a little bigger impact on his teammates. I don't know the behind the scenes story but obviously in some aspect there is conversation going on between the HC and JG regarding his impact on his teammates. What specific things do you think JG needs to do to have a little bigger impact on his teammates? My guess is Pruitt wants him to be more vocal, take charge and responsibility for the offense, demand accountability, and provide confident, poised, and determined leadership on the field. He can't play the game by himself; he needs to figure out how to unite his unit into a smooth running offensive machine. He's the guy on point but he can't be all that successful if his unit is disjointed.. jmo.

BRANDON, KNOXVILLE

Question/Comment: “Hey coach what things do you feel like Jarrett Guarantano needs to do and improve on moving forward to maximize his efforts and truly be the quarterback of the future that Tennessee needs?”
Pruitt: “I think Jarrett works hard every day. He’s extremely smart. He gets it the first time. He has a really good arm, good feet. Sometimes for a quarterback to play at a high level it takes everybody else around him to do it. It’s not like a pitcher where you just get the ball and throw it by everybody else. It takes 10 other folks. I think Jarrett, the biggest thing, and we had a conversation about it before I came over here, is having a little bigger impact on his teammates. And I think he has that about him. I think he does have a bright future if we can keep him healthy.”

Honest question. I don't follow any other message boards of sports teams. Do all fan bases eat their own and drill down on the most minuscule crux like this or just Volnation?

It depends on whether they are winning or losing and how many fans they have and their level of passion. Apples to apples - yes.

yes, but only the realll good ones do it.

the ones that don't, they suck, cause they don't care as much as we do.

i think there's a lot to that actually. pruitt has all but begged for leaders to emerge on this team. and offensively, it can't be a freshman running back, or a 3rd string quarter back, a la Sherion Jones in 2016.

unfortunately for JG, the qb is just looked upon to set the tone. establish the confidence level. if he'll be that guy, the rest of that offense will take his queues, and follow his lead.

but if you're going to be that guy, the first thing you have to do is hold yourself at, or above, the standard you need everyone else to be at. but that's just the first step. and i'm not saing he's not done that, he may have, and now it's time to build on it.

like @Kingston Vol said, something just seems to be missing, and maybe that's it.

using cable or DirecTV I'd always add a couple hours to recordings of sports broadcasts so that I didn't miss the end, but I haven't seen a way to do this with YTTV...has anyone figured this out?
I haven't figured this out yet either. I missed the ending of the 13 hour long Titans game for this reason.

VQ has also been hard on Helton for play calling and said multiple times the roster is in brutal shape. They haven’t been pumping sunshine.

They pumped sunshine all through spring and fall camps. It generates buzz and interest into football. That carries over to clicks and reads and thus more attention for VQ. This is especially beneficial to them when football is in its off-season. It's like any seasonal business. They do what they need to do in order to keep people clicking and reading. It's tough when football is in its off-season.

Now that the team is performing poorly, they are feeding off of reporting every little thing happening, including coaches' comments, their 10 minutes of practice availability, etc. The drama and negativity have a peculiar ability to generate attention. More VQ attention. More clicks and reads. The same could be said for the KNS. John Adams seems to consistently pound UT football no matter the circumstances. Why? I'm sure they have some reason to believe that it generates more reads/interest.

Let me state that I don't think VQ intentionally reports all sorts of BS. They have a job to do. If everything they said or wrote was complete BS, I don't think they'd be around this long. However, I think people should use their judgment a little better.

Hank’s position isn’t really that hard to figure out.

He’s never said JG is THE problem but he’s part of the problem along with play calling and OL play. I’m not sure how anyone can argue with that.
Hank has had a big problem with JG since we signed him. He loves to take a dump on the kid. He couldn't wait for JG to have a had fay so he could tellnus how awful the kid is.

He doesn't really acknowledge his potential or progress...I don't see how anybody can argue with that.

I once saw Peyton struggle badly against, and lose to freakin Tiger High..With a infinitely more talented teambaround him...

Jarrett Guaranmehnto?

No real disagreement on JG’s shortcomings.

I just think you’d have to be pretty stupid to favor a QB for getting the ball out Moreno quickly when he cant consistently hit a WR more than 7 yard season away above the shins.

But then again, I’m talking to the guy who talked up Coleman as our best RB in the spring and talked about how big of a role Shannon Reid’s would play for our LB corps. Guess it just goes to show that having eyes on practice doesn’t count for much if all you’re doing Ian carrying equipment around or cutting grass.

😂😂😂 ok bud. Please show me a post where i said Coleman was ever better than Ty chandler and i will Venmo you 1000$. But of course you can’t because you are just talking out of your arse.

The only thing i said about Reid is i didn’t think he would leave Bc he’s actually been in the 2 deep and we are thin at LB.

Like i said it’s obvious now. There is a personal connection with some fans on here to JG and you’re not allowed to be objective about him.

Here I’ll solve everything. I recant my previous takes on Jg. The kid is lights out. He is tough as nails, like Brett Favre level tough. His arm talent reminds me of Aaron Rodgers and his legs (since he was the top dual threat QB in his class) are close to Vick. He has done everything right this year and is the only bright spot on our team. If only any other group could help him out.
