Because they know Ford's claims, or any of these claims, can't be corroborated, and they want to delay the vote until after the elections, upon which they might control the Senate. A stalling tactic is to call for/wait for an FBI investigation.

Holy ****.....IT IS THIER JOB TO REQUEST IT. I've got a hint for you, they didn't say anything about it til now because they know that a FBI investigation right now will delay the nomination until after the midterms when they hope to get control back so Trump will never get his nominee confirmed. That goes without saying. We have senators that had verbally decided on tv that Ford was telling the truth before Kavanuagh had even field the first question.
