One more point.

I see a lot of coaches that have charts/play sheets. So playcalling isn’t just about calling a play. It’s about knowing what to do in THAT situation against your opponent. It’s a chess game between opposing coordinators. The Pope play was a great play except for the fumble at the end. Calling essentially the same running play on first down for maybe 27 times in a row for almost no gain every time is not very imaginative and when there are 8 guys in the box, probably not very smart. We have to fix that and maybe that’s on the QB as well. Part of the QB's responsibility is when he comes to the line, if the called play is not there based on what the defense is now showing, he has to get us in a better play. Maybe it is as simple as running right instead of left but managing the offense is more than just throwing the ball or handing it off. jmo.

No doubt. Just not sure how much control JG has, and if he does have it, then he isn'ty great at diagnosing it.

Multiple times, we had trips to one side with just 4 DB's, and two DB's were 10-15 yards off the ball. The LB's were not in pass coverage on that side. I never played, but to me, that signals a quick pass, let the other two WR's block, and you have to beat one man. Nope, didn't do it. The Pope play was fantastic because it was the same type alignment as the one we got stopped for a safety. UF played 9 in the box, and we threw the ball. Surprise, it worked!

We don’t have the OL or the QB to play offense like Osovet wants to do in this league. He loves mid level RPOs like joe Moorhead does.

There’s no way we are pulling that off.

I was disappointed with our offensive game plan Saturday but they are really handcuffed by OL and QB. There aren’t things that they could do better no doubt but this offense is never going to be a very good unit idc who is calling plays or coaching.

They may be handcuffed, but you still have to scheme around what you have. Trying to run against 7/8/9 man boxes is not helping your OL. Quick passes, rollouts, misdirections, and running in spread formations are things that you can do to help out your OL.

I was talking to an OM alum today, and he said Freeze absolutely would take the UT job. He said Freeze proposed to his wife in Neyland Stadium and told her he would be a head coach someday (not necessarily at UT). Did not know that story.
They also snuck into Neyland stadium after their wedding (on the way to the honeymoon iirc)

I watched some highlights yesterday, and the 7 OL set on the safety play was just stupid. Florida put 9 in the box because we had one WR out wide. If you are going to run out of the endzone, you have to spread out the defense just a little bit.
Unless of course you have a great Oline and lead blockers, which we obviously don’t. But some people on this board believe a coach can’t scheme around players weaknesses and you just have to suck until they get their players

It’s kinda crazy how much people will side with coaches who make millions of dollars over “amateur” players who don’t make any money.... Until of course they want that coach fired

And I usually preface things like this with saying that I never played. But the last two UF games have been two of the worst called games that I can remember. Debord caught crap for some of his, and he looked like a genius after those two.

We need to stop acting like Mullen has pulled off some great achievement already. He beat a 4-8 team that practically gave him the game. He lost to UK for the first time in 31 years, in Gainesville. I think he'll be fine long-term, but this season is far from over, and I think UF has a lot of tough days ahead.

The Basilio rumor story is likely BS, IMO. That is to generate clicks and stir the pot in order to generate more clicks in the future. I don't think the offensive play-calling was great on Saturday, but it should not have been a surprise to anyone. We tried to establish the run, which was not just a Helton thing. That is also a big Pruitt thing. When you've turned the ball over 5 times in the first half, I don't think it's smart to start chucking the ball around 90% of the time. Personally, I think the OL laid a big egg and just got out-played.

I'm just sitting here thinking about how nice our run game might be next year if Chance is healthy and Wright commits and so from left to wright we have Wright/Morris, Trey, Kennedy, Hall, Wright/Morris.

We just have to look to the future boys

Also, I don't like some of the things Rumph said about our team's depth. I think we all know he's right, but I don't think it's the right thing for him to say it in public. For a team that is hurting and short of talent, it's probably not the best idea to question their ability and your trust in them publicly. JMO. All of this coming from the guy who, when talking to reporters, told reporters that answers to questions were above his pay grade.

The ads you see are determined by the cookies on your machine. For example, I was on supplyhouse.com looking for Dampers for my home ac, and supply house ads are showing. So I think you’ve been looking at political sites outside of VN.
OK, so which of you fellas are seeing all the male enhancement ads?

Pretty Huge Rumor Going Around Among UT's Team:
spacer.gif
That Tyson Helton had the play sheet taken from him in the middle of the 3rd quarter during the Florida game. Allegedly Will Friend started calling the plays according to sources at UT that claim this is true. Do I believe it? I want to believe that. Because it would mean that Pruitt saw Saturday exactly what we saw. Tennessee's plan and play calling Saturday was abysmal at best. Giving Helton credit, it does look like he's at least moved the bar with his QB's. Guarantano does look better.

I don't know whether I believe that Helton had his play sheet taken from him, but I do wholeheartedly believe that the love triangle of Friend, Helton, and Pruitt is really strange. Even though Pruitt doesn't do anything on offense, he loves him some Will Friend. Then I hear some people say that it's Friend's offense that Helton is trying to coordinate. I will say this. Whatever they're trying to do, it's not working. And it doesn't have a whole hell of a lot to do with our O-Line. This offense looks like it's poorly conceived. These guys have helped neither their QB nor their O line to this point. Is a two TE set still legal? Just checking

What do you guys make of this if true?

I don’t think anyone is acting like Mullen has made some huge achievements after 4 games. But there were some on this board who all offseason talked about how awful UF was gonna be, and then the past 3 weeks talked about how Mullen has done terrible @ UF and is Butch 2.0, now acting like Mullen inherited a far superior team than Pruitt

he didnt say it publically... technically..

Trying to be positive: Could a reasonably close loss (less than 14 points) at UGA Saturday lead to a potential upset coming out of the off week at Auburn?
