Clemson replaced TN

Was Dabo ever a head coach anywhere before he got the Clemson job? He didn't start out by winning like he is now. If you want to use him as a comparison, be willing to give Pruitt the same opportunity.
No, and when he was made the permanent head coach the reaction was one of bemusement. If you told Clemson fans that if they gave Dabo several years he'd win a title and beat the greatest coach in the history of the sport doing so, they would have died laughing. The consensus at the time was that he wasn't up to this job at all; he'd only been a position coach before.

Tee Martins kid never liked us either so....

Nope and yet many on here defend him. He did great things as a player but quite the opposite since he left. He was a Fulmer guy and Fulmer was screwed by the university so I can’t really say I blame him. I am sure he feels slighted as well for not being the head coach which is ridiculous because he will probably be fired.

I dont see this talked about. Heck, maybe I am fool for having such thoughts. To me, Clemson has taken our spot at the table. The elite players we once upon a time picked up from the region that didnt attend Georgia, Alabama, or Florida are going there. 10-15yrs ago Trevor Lawrence and Tee Higgins would have been Vols. Add in Cade Mayes and I'd say we would all be feeling a bit better about the future of TN football right now. Their rise coincided with our demise, and their continued strength doesn't help us on the trail. I for one will be rooting for them to lose every game they play.
You are right!!! Top players want and will go to top programs. This being said, as has been lamented over and over, TIME will be needed. To use a old worn out statement. "Rome was not built in a day"

You must listen to Basilio. True in away because Clemson stole a bunch of our recruits and have gotten some good players in East Tennessee and shut down a lot of our recruiting in SC. I used to pull for Clemson most of the time since my Mom’s family is from there and they use to be small potatoes... not anymore.
HEY!!!! Has everyone talking Clemson forgotten about South Carolina? There are some guys staying home there that we use to get every year or so.

Is this quote for real? Swinney was a position coach who got promoted when Tommy Bowden was let go Midway through the 08 season. Now, as it turned out they hit the jackpot. That can't be denied. But let's not act like Clemson went out and hired some guy with a proven track record.
You are correct, Swinney was promoted as a position coach and went 4-3 during the first year. Went 9-5 second year and then 6-7 the third year. Had he been at UT, these so called fans would have called for his head.

Reality is he is gonna have to get 4 and 5yr guys and develop them. Maybe add one or 2 elite prospects along the lines when we can. That's the reality of this rebuild. The line is a developmental position and we are not going to get as many elite prospects there as others will in the short term. This rebuild isnt going to be winning sec titles in year 3. If Pruitt is winning 8 games by year 3-4, recruiting is improving/strong, and we can see the development of our lines then Pruitt is having success and we need to stick with him.

Somebody has to go down for us to come up. Who is it going to be?

Best post in thread!!

I am. I haven't given up on Pruitt. Way too soon for that. But we still are a bad program that most four and five stars don't want to play for. Can Pruitt change that? Maybe, I sure hope so.

VolNation likes to point to Clemson and Dabo. It took Dabo 6-8 years to have big time success year after year.

I also think it's easy to scare guys who are looking at us by telling them that they will be more exposed to injuries here because of our depth issues and the surrounding talent. Hopefully said:
This is my biggest fear, that the way this season is shaping up, we are likely about to take 3 multi-touchdown beat downs in a row, and possibly several more after that from Kentucky, Mizzou, USCe, and maybe even Vandy also. Right now we are selling hope on the recruiting trail, if we don't show improvement we may lose some of our class or not close strong enough and have this rebuild snuffed out in the crib.

LSU took our spot in 2001. Ever since that SEC Championship Game, they've almost swapped jerseys with our team. Same level of success that we had before 2001, and we went to mid/low tier

This is correct. If you root for Clemson, you are rooting against TN. TN needs Clemson to fall apart to help it get back to where it was. Not happenstance that Dabo was hired in 08 as we fired Fulmer. Programs have been headed in opposite directions since then.
Yes. For that reason alone I hope they play Bama in the playoffs and get drilled. I don’t care that Bama is a conference rival. Bama is going to get who they want regardless of what Tennessee does.

I have at times thought the same thing. They been going up and we have been falling after the 2001 SECCG.
