Sure, you have to be patient. If you aren’t concerned about the calls last night, then I don’t know what to say. 26 of 27 first down plays were runs. No imagination. No creativity. No quick passes. Didn’t use the strength of our offense. Nothing else to say.
Maybe, maybe not. Don’t let the score fool you. They’re still terrible.
Aside from turnovers, we matched the Gators in virtually every offensive category. Play calling didn’t cause all those fumbles and play calling didn’t fail to knock somebody on their @$$. The players were put into position to make plays, just like Pope was put into position to score or at least put the ball inside the ten, and just like the Vols had a 5 to 1 advantage on the onside kick when the Gator comes away with the ball.
We have 99 problems, and play calling may be one of them, but it’s nowhere near the top of the list. It is just easier to blame play calling because it’s an easier fix (just get a different guy to call the plays). On the other hand, roster turnover is going to take a while.
To be honest our first goal should be to be competitive with Vandy. KY is already miles ahead of us so we need to target them and Missouri next. Then SC and FL. GA is light years ahead. I'd say it will be at least 5-6 years before we can compete with them. That's if Pruitt is the guy.I hope I'm wrong, but Mullen is more experienced HC and has his QB waiting in the wings and has a more talented roster. I dont see us being competitive until year 4 with them unless something big happens
We matched them because we kept getting the ball back after giving them short fields. The first fumble was because JG didn’t recognize the blitz, which the coaches surely know. So, you roll him out and call some quick passes. The second INT was a screen I believe was called after a designed QB draw (why?). Turnovers can be a symptom of poor down and distance and play calls.
The Pope play was a great design. I am not one to usually question play calling. It’s tough. But he gave his team no chance to win. No creativity. No contesting a weak secondary. No Chandler in space. London on a toss sweep on 3rd and one? It’s cause for concern. We aren’t Alabama, and we aren’t just going to run it at you. He is a knucklehead, but Kiffin would have put up 35 on that team.
Thats what I was trying to say. Year 1 3-9 Year 2 4-8 dependong on OOC schedule. Year 3 6-6 be competitive and beat 2 of 3 USCe, UK, Vandy. Year 4 7-5 or 8-4 while being competitive with UF and the west opponent not named Bama. Year 5 8 or 9 wins and be competitive with everyone on the schedule. I dont think this is unreasonableTo be honest our first goal should be to be competitive with Vandy. KY is already miles ahead of us so we need to target them and Missouri next. Then SC and FL. First INT happened because OL failed to protect JG and failed to chip the DL that caught the ball, or you could argue that JG held onto the ball a little too long. Second INT was just a great read by the defender, $&@! Happens. All those fumbles had ZERO to do with play calling. Like Overstreet said, you can’t call QB rollout every play for a half, much less for a whole game. The reality is that if you take away the turnovers, that game is at least going to the 4th quarter.
The first TO was on JG UF was in an obvious all out blitz look and he held onto the ball too long. It was int because the defender caught it before it hit the ground, but it wouldve been ruled a fumble if it had. The second pick was a good read by the DE but JG stared the HB down the whole way. The 3rd pick was JG just hoping for a prayer he was just throwing it up in double coverage. The fumbles arent on the coaches or playcalling thats the players not making sure they secure the ball. Or the center rolling it back to the QB instead of giving him a good snapFirst INT happened because OL failed to protect JG and failed to chip the DL that caught the ball, or you could argue that JG held onto the ball a little too long. Idk man turnovers were big but defense is half the gameFirst INT happened because OL failed to protect JG and failed to chip the DL that caught the ball, or you could argue that JG held onto the ball a little too long. And some of those turnovers were great plays
That hit Polite laid on JG damn that’s how you wanna start a game
Also the interception on the long ball the DB made a hell of a grab on that one he caught the ball with dudes head between his arms lol
