No Way Out - Let’s Burn it Down With Phil

I get that. I’m just saying if your gonna die in a foxhole, let’s do it with someone we like. I would have kinda liked to see the postgame pressers with Leach. At least that part of TN football would be worth watching.

I get what you're saying but I have my problems with Fulmer too. Complacency and arrogance had a big part in him getting shown the door and starting this 10 year slide.

He had top 5 classes in 2005 and 2007. How did that stack of talent work out for him in the 2008 season?
not bad. 06 and 07 were good seasons. 08 was a bad season but how does that bad look now???? We will NEVER rebuild with new coaches every 4 years. NEVER. Its not just UT. Look at other programs like us who are sharing in this misery of instability. If Pruitt doesnt win a championship in 5 years and we fire him we will be right back to square 1. Im tired of it.

Nothing left to burn down.

Good point. Maybe we can just kick around in the ashes of what used to be with a familiar or fun coach.

In the coaches show we could just replay old games and relive past glory. We just like current games didn’t even take place.

By that logic, Butch Jones didn't do too bad. I mean, 2015 and 2016 were pretty good seasons, right? He had the same record as Fulmer did in '06 and '07, minus 1 win. From 2005 to 2008, Fulmer won the same number of games as Butch Jones from 2014 to 2017. You're calling that "not bad?" We lost to Florida by 26 tonight. We lost to them by 24 in 2008. We lost to them by 39 in 2007. You really think it was better back then? We lost to Bama by 24 in 2007 and by 20 in 2008. And did you listen to the postgame press conferences in 2007 and 2008? Fulmer had no idea what was going on each and every game. He was a completely different coach from the Fulmer of the 90s. How exactly was it "not bad" back then?

It was very bad back then. It's still very bad now. If we'd stop hiring very bad coaches, we wouldn't be in this situation. That's the problem. The problem is not hiring new coaches. The problem is us having to keep on hiring new coaches, because our coaches continue to be very bad. You're tired of firing bad coaches, so your solution is to keep them? You really think that will make the program better?

At this point, the only thing I feel confident that will make this program better is if other schools stop having programs.

Stability will make the program better. If he can recruit top 10 classes every year I wanna ride that train into the ground.

Phil is the one who took the keys out of Leach's pocket and handed them to Pruitt. Leach would be winning 10 games a year here within 3 years. I'll be shocked if Pruitt sees year 4. I hated giving Phil the AD job and hated his hiring of Pruitt. Hiring coaches is the most important AD job and he's one of the worst ever at it. That's why he never had a coaching tree. Look at Majors' coaching tree compared to Phil's. Phil sort of has Randy Sanders and Tee Martin. He was a HC for 16 years and produced no coaching talent around him.

Top 10 recruiting classes alone won’t cut it in the SEC. There are 4-6 other SEC schools in the top 10 every year, so player development and in-game coaching are extremely important. And we have had terrible player development and in-game coaching since 2005.

Randy Sanders, Chief, Cutcliff, Cooter, Tee, Steele.

I agree with ride it into the ground for stability. I can remember some Vandy hires that were horrid and they rode them a while. That program sucks. On the flip side, Derrick Mason looked really bad for a couple years and now they look pretty good.

Those other 4-6 are regularly in the top15 standings so it cuts pretty well for them. Ill take more talent and average coaching all day everyday. You cant teach a 4.2 40.

Tennessee football is over. We can’t recruit in Knoxville. We can’t run it on ETSU. We won’t win a game in the SEC for two years in a row. It will be a decade or more before we see a 10 win team.

So let’s give the keys back to Fulmer. I mean can it get any worse? We couldn’t win the OVC. At least he’d “work like heck!”

On another note, I think we should install luxury couch seats in the stadium. Every fan gets a 6 foot sofa seat. Maybe then we could fill our stadium on a couple of games in the next few years.

You don’t give the car keys to the guy that ran it into a tree.

Philip Fulmer isnt stupid enough to take over this sorry excuse for a team and ruin his reputation. Pruitt is his handpicked guy so you are getting CPFs best shot at getting us back there already.

I'm starting to wish we had thrown the bank at Cut after Fulmer. It may not have worked. But it would have been better than the Kiffin disaster.

Yeah, Cut would have been solid steward of the program. Probably would have come back after Kiffin but then you run into politics.

Oh for the days of one bad season per decade. Because of UT's overreaction to 2008, we are now hoping for one good season per decade.

You obviousy forgot about 2005. That was a losing season as well. As I have already said, Fulmer’s last 4 years, he had the exact same number if wins as Butch did his last 4 years. Fulmer had 2 losing seasons in 4 years before he was fired, same as Butch. 2015 and 2016 were very similar to 2006 and 2007. Do you think we should’ve kept Butch? If not, why should we have kept Fulmer?
