Bad hire

I don't have any problem with him taking a few risks in a game. Kicking the chalkboard probably shouldn't have happened but he's fiery guy and that i like. His offense is hampered by no QB, no Oline, and the OC's gameplan from last night i hope he threw in the garbage on his way out.. The (UF) Linebacker Reese was in the backfield all night. Should of called some quick slants behind him when he sold out, maybe hit the TE a few times. Instead 30 , 40 yard bombs all game. The TE did drop a 4th down pass he should of caught, he wasn't targeted enough though IMO.

Two 4th down tries and a ridiculous on-side kick in the SECOND QUARTER....were desperation signals to the team that their coach was out of answers and had essentially thrown his playbook away and given up. A more mature experienced coach would have called the team together...called for calm, not PANIC, and let the boys just go out and play football.
I don't know where you go from here, but this guy isn't showing much coaching. Basic, fundamental football coaching to avoid give-aways would have kept this game a whole lot closer. Fundamentals count, regardless of who your opponent is. Florida sucks. They're not a competitive SEC team any more than we are.
That said, when you HAND THEM 24 points, and your head coach panics and QUITS...not only will you not win...you're going to be embarrassed....A LOT.
Jeremy Banks needs to wake up Monday morning and start looking for another place to play before he gets killed.
I'm willing to give Pruitt a lot of time to recruit and coach his own players and show that despite his own inexperience as head coach, that just maybe he has the makings of becoming a good one so far..I'm not seeing it.
I can’t say Pruitt quit but the players sure did. That’s bad coaching. Pruitt is out of his league.

I actually agree with all of the crazy calls . He knew we didn’t have the offense to come back when down by 21 points

Let's look at the results so far for some other newly hired coaches:

Texas A+M - Jimbo Fisher: 2-2 (0-1 SEC)

Nebraska - Scott Frost: 0-3

UCLA - Chip Kelly: 0-3

Florida State - Willie Taggart 2-2 (0-2 ACC)

Arkansas - Chad Morris 1-3 (0-1 SEC)

Arizona - Kevin Sumlin 2-2 (1-0 PAC12)

And one NFL team just because:
Oakland Raiders - Jon Gruden 0-2

This is easy:
Fisher - National Title Winner
Frost - National Title Winner*
Kelly - 3-time PAC 12 winner
NFL Playoffs
Taggart - I still don’t know who this dude is, but he has experience...but... Do not hire
Morris - he suck = they suck. Do not hire
Sumlin - 88-45 all time record. Has beaten Bammer. Has smoked us.
Gruden - Super Bowl Winner. Tease

Pruitt - freaking...high...school...coach

I’m other words, the guys with success in their prior stops have earned a little more respect/time than the freaking high school coach.

Chip Kelly’s off to a rough start, but he’ll get them rolling.
Fisher’s not a good example. They gave Clemson all they could handle and got beat by the best team in the league. No shame in that.

Wait, so you said OD has more talent and better coaching than VT? How about giving a brand hew coaching staff more than 4 games? My God you people are pathetic.
I meant OD has less talent but upset VT. That means we can beat UGA, or Bama right???

Im pathetic but our coach may be more patheticer

Won't know the answer to this question til probably year 3.. Guy has a complete overhaul to do. Butch's recruiting wasn't as good as the rankings said it was. Proof is in the pudding at this point.. None of us want to go through another rebuild but that's where it's at. Pruitt has a set to take this job. I think he kind of knew already what it was going to be like.

Hard to argue with those who cannot see or understand context and circumstances. So its probably best you stick with your stance. Much easier and simpler for you.
That's about what I figured. Thanks for the insight. Meanwhile those of us not in the Pruitt honeymoon phase can continue to be alarmed. Not by the fact that we're 2-2. But by the fact that there has zero improvement on the team in any area.

4 of the coaches above were high on the list of many people on this site and their results don't look any better than CJP. Remember that most of these postions come open because a team has had some bad seasons. It's not like CJP showed up to a disciplined and loaded team with on field leaders. I think we saw both some good and poor coaching decisions tonight, but I liked that CJP was willing to take some chances (onside kick, 4th down attempts). Pruitt may turn out to be a bad hire, but lets give him some time and hope that once he has his own players on the field we start winning and he's our coach for a long time. Who would want to go through another coaching search? Do you think people will be knocking down the door to come here to be the 5th coach in 10 years? This is going to be another hard year to be a UT fan, but lets not start burning mattresses just yet.

Easy now, son. Logic and reason have no place here.

247 Sports has updated their overall team talent rankings for 2018. UT is 14th, right behind Florida. Somewhat surprisingly to me, Ohio State edged out Bama for first. Georgia is 3rd, LSU 6th, Auburn 11th.

So, UT is the 6th most talented SEC team according to this composite:

Team talent rankings
Our previous classes are on par with Florida however developed talent is worlds behind. Butch Jones left this place worse than what he found it.

the major mistake we made was not sealing the deal with duke coach when lane left. idiot ad didn't want him to bring his own staff. we have been on a **** ride since then and this new clown looks no better. we are not better in any area of the game from last year.

That's a fair argument. But the "we have no talent" folks sre deluding themselves.

Nick Saban kicked an onside kick vs the Vols in year 1. It was brilliant because it worked. Pruitt would have also been brilliant if it worked.
As soon as we did that last night I thought back when NS did that to us. It was without a doubt the spark Bama needed that year and I personally think it was the one play (if there is such as thing) that catapulted Bama to the elite level they are at now....Amazing at the lack of understanding sometimes on this board but I must like it because I seem to come back over and over ...
