I really thought our LB’s would be good This year... maybe it’s just me but it seems they are slow to get to the ball carrier. Even Bituli who honestly seems a step faster than last year imo. Or maybe it’s just the interior Dline doing their assignments and were able to gang tackle quicker than last year where they got to the 2nd level un touched
They are slow and don’t get off blocks well. Trust your eyes

I don't know if it's Helton, Pruitt, or both but they are simply refusing to admit we're not a power running team. We should've been airing the ball out a lot more. It's about the only thing our OL can block even though that's only on occasion.

Yup... And on those occasions it seems it’s either a PA that EVERYONE is expecting, or 3rd and long and they send a blitz and we’re only blocking 5 and maybe using a RB.

I’m not sure who it is but it shoulda been fixed after game one it wasn’t clear as day. Although I do kinda believe it was PRuitt. I remember the day he was hired we heard “I can’t wait to go back to old smash mouth football” “he wants maulers on the Oline so he can dominate the run” “he LOVES big backs that can break that first tackle”. But who knows, even if it’s “his offense” it seems Helton is truly calling plays, and if he has free 100% play calling, it’s pathetic how awful he’s been

This rebuild is going to be different. I think any message about "being patient" or "it's a process" is going to fall on deaf ears and the dropoff in fan support is going to be apparent. Really, it's amazing people have been patient as long as they have. I doubt any program but UT could have sustained such a high level of fan support through this debacle of a decade.
Nick Saban would need 3 years for this mess.

Tennessee ran the ball 54 times. 54 freaking times for only 156 yards and 44 was on one play! 2.9 YPC. Take away the run and it’s 2.1 YPC
It’s been said before, some coaches rather run their offense (win or lose) than to do what gives them the best chance to make big plays and/or win. CBJ was one. Helton appears to be one

Likely. On that one long Swain play (TD?) Bituli kept up with him nearly the whole time, obviously he was a step or two slower but for a guy his size he didn’t seem “slow”. But when teams run the ball it’s like Bituli is nearly non existent and is slow as Tuttle. It’s almost like he regressed

That’s my issue with a lot of the team. It’s not like we don’t have talent, it’s all the mental mistakes. Over and over.

It's infuriating. I don't know if they just refuse to buy in or what the hell is wrong with them.

This. It’s what hurts so much about this loss. We’re in game 4, we made the same mistakes last week. There’s no reason for it. Heck, we probably made double the mistakes today than vs WVU. If we would have lost by one score (like it shoulda been) and played clean football I wouldn’t been pissed about it.

Yup. Although it was interesting to see him let Scott out some “wrinkles” in the Offense. I’m not sure if it’s Pruitt or Helton. I think if it was Helton the O would be much more spread based. But maybe not

I mean I'm fine with that being what he wants but it's just not what we have right now. I don't think Pruitt really has the time to micromanage the offense while coaching the defense but I'd assume he has input on the offense's identity. Regardless, they need fix it in their heads that we aren't what they want us to be and until this OL gets a ton better we need to adjust.

Like it or not much of that is on coaching. They haven't come out of the gates looking prepared yet this season, even against inferior talent. That is what I want to see at this point, I'll feel better about the future if I see this one thing!

I agree. Coaching turnover is the problem. Give Pruitt 5 yrs. If he can’t get it done then get the Brinks truck.
The Brinks truck model obviously doesn't work. Helton is inside the top 8 highest paid assistant coach in the country. So we essentially backed up the Brinks truck for him and all that has gotten us was a few steps back on offense.

Seriously I think we have taken more than a few steps back offensively. At least last year we were in competitive games against Florida, Kentucky, and USCjr. That will not be the case as tonight has shown.

Oh yea I agree, if he wants to run it that way, I don’t really care. Although basically all Elite teams outside of Uga run mainly spread. It was clear after the WVU we aren’t gonna be able to do that this year, but he(they?) hasn’t changed a damn thing. I don’t necessarily think he’s not micromanaging but I definitely think he has a strong say in the philosophy and identity. And if that’s wrong then Helton should be fired by the end of the year and replaced with Freeze

A lot of that's straight up discipline - something this team hasn't had since 2015. Pruitt's going to have to fix it but I'm not sure how much of it is his fault just yet.

We have a top 5 salary for assistant coaches in ALL of college football

Anything that leads us to believe we’re on the right track with this staff, I agree.

Fair enough but this is the job he was hired for and if this continues he's going to lose the team and recruits and nothing changes, were looking for another coach in three years.

I see three outcomes with our Offense. 1 it’s all Helton (gameplan, Scheme, play Calling, ect) we fire him soon (better be before year 3 or Pruitt can say bye). 2 Its Pruitt, he has a strong hand in Philosophy, Identity of who we are. He either refuses to change and is fired quickly (worse version of Muschamp to UF), or he turns it all over to Helton.

I still want to know how Pope got caught from behind on that play. He had a 40 yard running start lol.
Their defensive backs paid attention on "angle of attack". I sit in the upper deck and about 3 steps after he caught if I knew that guy was going to get him. It was plain as day from were I swept sit.

As for the offense, we desperately need to find at least one John Kelly. I'm not a huge fan of the RB by committee model (at least not in terms of a committee this big). We need to establish our work horses and that doesn't seem clear yet. I'd also like to see us throw to Chandler more. He needs to ball and at least an inch or two to maneuver in and our OL isn't giving him that.
