I seriously may not even watch the Bama and UGA games this year. There will be nothing fun about that.

I’m not convinced UGA is invincible from a clunker game yet. So I will watch that one hoping they have an off day.

Now that I’ve seen them play, I’m moving my Bama game pick from a game “Pruitt has us surprisingly competitive in” to a game we lose 56-7 with 70,000 Bama fans in attendance.

It does look like his strongest team. That's usually when you see drop-off-- after several years of peak success. If Bama goes undefeated this year, capped with a NC, that level of success will be hard to duplicate next year and even harder the year after. The more successful he is, the more difficult it will be to sustain and the more unrealistic the expectations will be.

The big difference this year is QB. Guys like Tua can make average teams good to great when they are there. He just takes Bama to another level and they already are a playoff team for the most part without him.

There is probably some truth to this. I doubt anything changes until revenues start to drop due to lack of interest. I think we are kind of seeing it with attendance numbers drop. Other than their respective fan bases, who really wants to go watch their team get dismantled by Bama, OSU, Clemson, and Oklahoma every year? UGA is waiting in the batter box to join that crew.

I figure 3-4 straight years of a Bama/UGA SECCG and both going to the playoff no matter the outcome and apathy across not only the conference, but the nation, will at least start to set in.

It’s turning into a situation where college football simply isn’t fun anymore. I look forward to the season all year long and yesterday I found myself wanting to do yard work and run errands because I’m sick of seeing the same thing every weekend.

I’ve had this exact thought for a while now. The playoff is making the game less interesting rather than more interesting. I’d be for scrapping it all and going back to the old bowl system. Back then, BYU and Georgia Tech could be awarded a title. Today only a handful of teams meet the eye test for the committee and they get in. And fanbases of those teams that don’t get in go crazy, ramp up pressure on their coaches and get them fired. The instability creates a vacuum where the “elite” teams remain stable get all the recruits and stay elite.

UGA is recruiting at a level that even Richt never approached.

I think a team or two can come up and compete but neither are going anywhere.
Yep. Not a coincidence that the best/most physical high school players are now coming from those areas. It’s not California and Florida anymore. It’s Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi.

Hurts could easily take them to the playoff with all the pieces around him.

TBH part of me hates that Alabama is as good as they are, but part of me is also kind of numb to them being so good.

I know 2018 isn't Tennessees year. I don't want it to be UGAs year either. So if it comes to pass that UA is dominant all year, I can live with it as long as they beat UGA in the SECCG and (hopefully) keeps them out of the tournament.

Don't get me wrong..... I hate UA and I hate UF with a passion. But I hate UGA with every fiber of my being.

I hate them all. Pulling for Jimbo and Ed O to do big things to take them down and UT to rise from the ashes.

Watched the AU game and then the AL game yesterday with fans of both teams (please send prayers for my wife and I )... The difference between the regular college football fanbase/SEC fanbase and Bammerz is staggering... The AU vs LSU was an action-packed, great game to watch, even if you were not a fan of each team, and the AU fans cheered, jeered, and agonized in the appropriate times and degrees...

THEN came the AL Ole Miss game.... every single Bammer, including young kids were going berzerk the entire game, on every play, hazing Ole Miss--- yelling, screaming, whooping, even when they were up by 50.... every play was like they were coming from behind to win the National Championship... was really sickening and pretty much ruined the day for everyone else that had to sit through it...
Like LA Vol and some others have talked about this morning, the game and fanbases have reached a fever pitch to where the game is not the same and has become uncompetitive for most... I really think in a couple of years, if there is not a shift in top tier teams across the country, and the Bamma's/OSU's/Okla's, etc don't take a step back, college football will erode.

----- They were even bashing Hurts the entire game, saying he should just go somewhere else... I piped up and said we'd take him in a heartbeat and everyone just laughed at me...

The fact there were empty seats at the Auburn LSU game which was a top 15 matchup was crazy. Wouldn’t happen 10 years ago. Outside of one or 2 games a year football is just better on TV. Hopefully we can get back to being good again and all SEC games are packed. There is just really no point in attending a game against ETSU or UTEP for me personally.

I have a great parking spot but yesterday, even after several had left early, it took forever to get to Neyland Drive to get on the way quickly to home. The cops were not letting andy holt/ joe johnson traffic move but maybe three cars at a time and letting other directions go forever twice before letting us go once and it was backing folks up. I let a guy out in front of me before we got to where Volunteer crosses. They let three cars go and he books it across himself drawing the ire of the cops trying to stop him. Saw them take a pic of his tag but they also gave me the big hand up to stop and yelled to make sure I would. I give money and come to games and support the program and then sit forever because the cops do a piss poor job of directing traffic and then held us up for several cars because they were pissed at that guy and also could probably tell that I wanted to drive over their bikes and flip them off. Then traffic seemed even worse on the interstate though it was probably the same as any other game. Wanted to eat at Connors and then get home and watch some other games. It took almost an hour just to get to Connors. Listen to the Auburn LSU finish on the radio instead of seeing the last few minutes at home.

I am driving back and wondering why am I spending all this time and money and especially to see them play ETSU and UTEP and miss all the others. Going to Auburn as well and it should be a fun trip with my son but knowing going in this year is a tough one but hope we can compete ect like everyone else. But started thinking, even if we were a great team right now would it be worth the money, time, and aggravation of all the crap outside of watching the game. I love the time in Neyland but all the other hassle is starting to creep into my thoughts of how nice it is on the weekends I stay at home and enjoy the games on TV. Geared up for Florida game next week but sometimes really wonder if just going to a couple of big games even if you have to pay a pretty penny for tickets, might make more sense. Sorry for the rant but really not a fan of the traffic flow and how K town police handle things.

The sooner Saban breaks all the records and puts them firmly out of reach, the sooner he'll retire. An undefeated season and another couple NCs should do it. So I'd rather Bama just go ahead and win while UT struggles back to relevance and let UT be strong when Saban winds down.
Then they'll probably swoop in and steal Pruitt

It’s not dumb to blitz a horrible mistake prone QB with an average OL at home. I bet Pruitt blitzes

Same thing was said about Grier prior to the WV game. “Just bring pressure and he’ll fold”

We saw how that worked out. Franks isn’t Grier obviously but tough to blitz with the youth/Inexperience on the backend and not get burned.

Not as easy as just bringing pressure.

Franks is really bad, pressure is needed in this game. I’m not worried about his passing ability at all

I really don’t think this run will end as long as Saban is there, even after he leaves too.

I’ve always said it isn’t just Saban who is really really good. It’s that program. The entire state, even the state political system, is behind it. It’s a state treasure. When they have a good coach it is just magnified.

Look at the late 90’s and early 00’s when they were on sanctions and HAD to play by the same rules every one else does. They were just like every other program. But once they can start throwing their “resources” behind it again they get good. Even a coach like Mike Shula could win 10 games there. Putting a coach like Saban behind those resources and support will get you what we see over the last decade. It’s simply going to take sanctions or a ridiculously bad coach to slow it down. I don’t see either happening.
Pretty much my thinking with the Alabama program. After he retires, nothing will change for awhile. Like you said, it'll take a Butch Jones type to screw that up. When the time comes to pick a guy, they'll have their pick of the litter.

We could go anywhere between 3-9 (quite possible but I think we'll do better) and 8-4 (not happening). I'm still stuck at 5-7 but will teeter towards 4 if we lose Saturday. There's not a team on our schedule left besides Charlotte that's a safe bet.

Tyler Byrd hasn't made a catch yet but he is making impact blocking on edge in run game. Seems like we make big runs on outside when he is out there. Small sample size but he did more reps this wk likely because of that ability

I love how all the receivers are blocking. I noticed Byrd out there a lot in the red zone. Don’t be surprised for us to have a play or two designed for him when we get down there against the Gators.

I do wonder how much of this (on this board) is just because UT sucks, and what always made CFB fun for us was that we were one of the elite programs at the top.

Having said that, there’s no doubt that the full slate of Saturday games is just generally less interesting when everybody is playing for first loser. Ironic that the conference slogan is “it just means more” when, basically, the games themselves just mean less and less the longer Saban keeps his dynasty rolling like it is.
