Im a member of Volquest, Swain event Plus, Basilio T club, and Rockytop Insider Premium. Wife thinks Im nuts.
I don't wanna be rude because I've definitely shelled out some cash for my Vols and sports in general, but what in the world does Basilio offer that is worth giving a dime towards?

just got done listening to this.

good discussion on the confidence level. thought it was interesting. and one of those instrinsic characteristics you just can't quantify. wonder how much it plays in to this team's psyche going forward. hard to gain it in games like we're going to be in the next two weeks, but they had a good point about just executing the plays, see the results and how that translates in the SEC schedule.

all pretty much agreed that getting a starting 5 at OL is really important for continuity and communication's sake.

one thing i wondered about as it happened was how deflating in these guys' minds was those 1st two offensive series against WVU? i don't expect anyone to come out and say it, but i'd be willing to bet there was a sense of "welp, here we go again".

that has to stop...

i think it's important, regardless of how the next two games go, that something good happens early in the FL game. i think if that game starts off bad, they may not be capable of bouncing back from it.

Aside from the Smokey story I posted earlier, which I didn't know Smokey was such a big feature of when I started watching, I'm reading this David vs Goliath story of Butler College (no scholarship players) vs Youngstown State (63 scholarship players). It's a miraculous win as the Butler field goal kicker sends the winning points through the uprights with 4 seconds remaining on the clock. The Butler linebacker coach, Derek Day, was a quality control assistant for us in 2015 & 16.

MAYDAY FIELD GOAL! MAYDAY FIELD GOAL!
When Butler practices Mayday field goals, the field goal team gets 12 seconds to leave the sideline, set up and snap the ball. Bevelhimer and his teammates sprinted to their places to attempt a 44-yard field goal. Youngstown State had timeouts, so Bevelhimer expected to get iced. No timeout came. So Bevelhimer told the holder he was ready. The snap came. The ball was set. Bevelhimer kicked and…

“I mishit it,” he says.

He had hit from 60 yards going that direction in warm-ups. He didn’t know if this one would make it 44.

On the sideline, Temple couldn’t even watch. “This ball may not get there,” Bevelhimer thought as he looked up. Then he watched the ball crawl over the crossbar.

The [Butler] Bulldogs’ sideline exploded. Half the team was off the sideline and out to the numbers with helmets off. Day looked at the clock and began screaming. There were four seconds left on the clock. He was instantly transported back to Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., on Oct. 1, 2016. On that afternoon, Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason hit Riley Ridley for a 47-yard touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs a lead. Rodrigo Blankenship’s extra point put Georgia up 31–28, but the celebration after the touchdown had been flagged, so the Bulldogs would have to kick off from the 20-yard line. Tennessee’s Evan Berry caught the kickoff on the Tennessee 32 and returned it to the Georgia 48. An offsides penalty on the Bulldogs on that play moved the ball to the 43.

On the next play, Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs found Jauan Jennings for a touchdown as time expired. Georgia fans call their 2001 win at Tennessee the “Hobnail Boot” game because of Larry Munson’s iconic radio call. In Tennessee lore, the win created by the Dobbs-to-Jennings Hail Mary is called the Dobb-nail Boot game.

Day didn’t want his Bulldogs to suffer the same fate as Georgia’s Bulldogs did. Butler coaches herded players back to the sideline, and no penalty was called.

App St.-Michigan has nothing on Butler-Youngstown St.

I liked that the offensive line got much better as the game went on.
They looked better, but WVU started playing more zone coverage and only rushing 3 guys. It still bothers me that we struggle to run the ball when the other team knows we are going to. In fact, that is something that I will want to see tomorrow. I hope that we are able to line up and run the football when ETSU knows a run is coming. That would be an improvement over our O-line with Butch.

Not sure we'll have more than a couple of capacity crowds this year, but I think the attendance will be better Saturday than for some of the later games. It's an easy trip for ETSU alums and a lot of them are Vol fans, too. It'll be one of the more friendly game atmospheres for families and tailgating, but I bet the crowd clears out early.
