I think Mike Leach would have been a disaster here

Maybe. When we got to that point in the search, I was like

I think Mike Leach would have been a disaster here

The fans would have turned on him so fast, especially after this season. Imagine Leach and his bizarre personality going 4-8 at Tennessee and then barely making a bowl or even missing one again in year two. It would have been terrible (and I wanted him at the time out of sheer desperation).

It would have been Dooley without any of the "Southern charm" and facing a fanbase that is on its fourth failed coach in a row.

We can't afford to lose anybody worth a dang on this team. We are gonna be lucky to win 5 games this year with all hands on deck.

And before everybody starts dumping on me for saying that. The inflaters dumped on me all summer for saying what pretty much everybody can see now about this team.

I said it months ago, and I am saying it now..It will take more than just one offseason to fix this mess.

Getting through this year is going to be a slog. I just want to see them fight harder, and play tougher. I think they can...at least some of them. The youngs guns have got some spunk.
Okay dude. Sorry I pointed out that the injury situation so far is way better than the past few years at this point in the season. Didn't realize it would be taken as an attack damn. You talk about "inflators" dumping on you for how you describe the kids on our favorite team, but I can't say
Terrible news but way less of that kinda thing than the last few years so far.
Whatever man. I won't try to inflate anyone with factual statements about areas of improvement anymore. All y'all realists act like a statement like that is some sort of personal attack and then when something goes bad bring up these "attacks" in I told you we sucked posts. I'm really not trying to attack you man. We've always had disagreements but have been cool, and I'm pretty sure I've always been fair in my responses. I don't really think you were taking a personal shot at me, just not sure why my seemingly innocent post sent you on that rant.

Hell yeah, I was mad. A lot of people work their a$$ off to take their families to UT games and can only afford tickets in the upper deck. No need to throw shade at 'em. But, I overreacted. I try not to go full tilt on VN, but I did lose it, this time. Sorry VN, especially u, Hank. I do not know anyhing about Hank and that was out of line. Once again, Hank, sorry

JJ or Tatum

It's been said Smith didn't play all that well at LT Saturday or last year so Perhaps getting him at his best spot would benefit us
We’ve seen Tatum at that spot and Johnson was very capable at LG. Think you plug either one at LT and not “all that well” seems like All-Pro by comparison. I’m not sure where this narrative of his best position being OG first became a concept. He was ESPN’s #1 overall prospect and they don’t give that nod to interior linemen...until they commit to UT. Trey’s our best OL no matter what position and would flourish at the pro level with the same caveat.

Same ole VN. Go all in on one game...if it’s a loss. Lots of pumping brakes references if the result is the opposite. One game seasons are the worst.

After the next two weeks, the forum will be ready to smash a trash Florida team at home, carry a decent shot at Auburn, and a huge signature win vs. Bama.

Yep and not even Saban could win any of those with this roster.
Well, I think Saban and Pruitt, both can beat Florida at home with the Vols' roster. Of course, I thought UT could beat WV, too. So, in the immortal words of Ygritte from "Game of Thrones", "U know nothing, Jon Snow (or The Dog)"

I was bullish on UT beating Florida early on, but the WV has me shaky on that for now. Need to see better play these next two weeks and I want to see how Florida does vs. KY.
KY is a popular upset pick this week. Less talent but holds a big advantage in terms of chemistry and experience. Plus Central Michigan is better than most casual cfb fans realize.

I think UF has the roster that a lot of Vols fans thought we had before we got exposed. That being a lot of under utilized talent with a high ceiling that was just waiting for the right coaching and motivation.

"Nicksjuzunk's daily bolded and numerated thoughts" brought to you be not so renowned poster, Nicksjuzunk. Sponsored in part by, Kellogg's.

1. JJ Peterson becomes the next Chris Donald at Tennessee. Every few months, "Hey, how's JJ doing?" Response, "Well...". I've seen enough to make me question this one, and I'm 100% aware that there are people from similar circumstances who have done phenomenal, Travis Henry for example. I'm just going to call this one early and see how it plays out. Really disappointed he showed up so out of shape. Big difference in him and someone who seems to be hungry and grinding so hard on their own... I'm thinking of Jeremy Banks from the last cycle. Of course, we've seen training videos of dudes who never pan out also like Kongbo, so... JMO.

I think "out of shape" may be a relative description. JJ's teammates went through summer strength and conditioning with Coach Fitz then battled through the grind of a hot August fall camp. Meanwhile, JJ, apparently academically challenged for whatever reason, is battling through coursework in the classroom fighting and grinding to reach a minimum threshold to obstain NCAA eligibility. If I'm guessing, I'm thinking it took more than one attempt to get through whatever classwork he had to accomplish before making the trek to Knoxville, hense the continued slippage of his projected arrival date.

I think Butch may have given some consideration to academic capacity when he was recruiting here, particularly since our APR was so bad when he arrived we were going to need at least 3 years to move beyond the risk of APR sanctions.

In HS JJ was, among other things, an edge rusher, a run stopper, a kickoff returner, a wide receiver, and he ran the wildcat on offense. I suspect his grades in the classroom may have been influenced by his contributions on the gridiron. It was, I think, obviously a struggle for all involved to get him eligible for a college career. Kudos to everyone who contributed to that effort. Meaning no disrepect to JJ, but I'm reasonably confident no one is going to mistake him for a Josh Dobbs rocket scientist in the classroom.

I think JJ could turn out to be a great get. Clearly, as noted, he's behind his teammates in football preparation for this season for reasons already noted. While I'm not guaranteeing anything one way or the other I think with this staff we may want to be open to the idea of recruiting some really good athletes that may not be the brightest bulbs on the tree.

One more thing about the Chris Donald vs JJ Peterson comparison. Chris played 2A football in Tennessee. His school enrollment was around 400 and that was the typical school he competed against. JJ played 7A football in Georgia (the highest level) with enrollment at his school exceeding 1600. Some VN posters who knew or lived around Donald said they thought he was overrated coming out of 2A and didn’t expect him to be able to make it in the SEC. Donald eventually transferred to Chattanooga and made All-conference in the Southern Conference. I think it could easily be argued that what some people want to see as being lazy could just as easily be a case of being overwhelmed in an overmatched environment. JJ has already competed against the very best in all of HS football. Chris never did and maybe never could have in the first place.
