I wonder how this is calculated and how much they are actually "down weighted". Almost every SEC team played a cupcake week 1. I have a hard time believing we were that bad compared to some of those teams. I think I'll let the season play out before putting too much stock in this crap.

I think from the description the scoring margin is the key factor. Presumably, Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss weren't up against cupcakes. Most importantly, everyone else won and we lost. Big difference is the direction of scoring margin.

Bain with a Scholly, great for him, he earned it five times over...

Andrew Butcher at Kennesaw St? Thought he medically retired... or did he get Butched?

Vols looked like a very poorly coached team Sat. It looked no different than the Butch era. Pretty bad for a coaching staff with so many lauded accomplishments and that cost a fortune.
I believe this is why I was so upset. I expected a decently coached/disciplined team. We weren’t close to that

Trust your eyes regardless of the competition played in the first week. Our guys were bottom third regardless of the competition.

Our O looked like it could compete mid-level in the SEC with work on the O-line and Helton improving his play calling IMO. They get two weeks to work out the issues. There is enough talent to do it, they just need to get to work on it.

Our D looked amateurish. A bunch of Jumper's and Abernathy's running around with the exception of a few guys. I hope they get the most talented guys on the field the next two games so they can gel as a unit somewhat. Quit wasting time on experienced wannabes. Find two coverages they can use competently with the young talent in the secondary. Time to sit Kongbo more and play other guys to develop a legit pass rush. He's fools gold. Then find at least two tough, mauling hogs to go with Shy for the D-line. Otherwise it will be excuse time against UF - again.

That’s simply not true. Butch had multiple teams that fought back with last year being the exception. You can point to the UGA game in 2013, the USC game in 2014, and the UF game in 2016 just to start.

I wasn't speaking about his entire time here, just last season, thought that was implied... yes, in the early years he was coaching, we definitely had some fight. I was speaking about last season when everything fell apart.

So I guess it'll look better next week after we beat the brakes off of ETSU.

Maybe it's just one game on Ryan. I wrote an article about his wv performance a couple days ago after going back through the film the first time and then yesterday after posting Freaks guideline on respecting the players I realized I couldn't post that article. I think he was interviewed twice after the game, once with Tim Priest and then when the players met with the media. My only take away was his comment, “We take pride in the way we play on the OLine”. I was baffled. Priest interviewed DWA and I thought Dom might actually deck him. Bituili I thought was actually going to cry. He was very emotional. Ryan was in another world.
Are you saying in another world as a good thing or a bad thing?

This right here. The fact that our margin was -26 is a big factor in the level of suck those ratings indicate. A lot of people think the game was closer than the final score, and I tend to agree. If we can handle these next two like we should, and not turn them into 4-quarter dogfights like a Butch team would, it'll be interesting to see how these ratings change.

Yeah, we should get a bump and others will take a hit but our bump may not be that big given the opponent. I think we have to, as you say, beat the brakes off of them. If for some reason we take it easy on the scoring margin, in this metric, it will be less helpful.

I honestly don’t believe I could put Warrior back on the field after seeing his play last Saturday. His effort was pathetic. Abernathy just looks lost, takes horrible angles, and can’t tackle. The older dudes are a mess. Alontae and Flowers at least tried hard
