Most people were thinkin 5-7 to 7-5 with an outside chance at an upset. Most thought we might not win but would be in most games. Most thought we'd see an improved team fundamentally. Some thought we could/would beat WV or at least give them a game. I don't think many saw WV dominating us in every phase.
Hey now!! We dominated the punting phase of the game!! Give us a little credit.

Butch , Kiffin and Dooley had it but Fulmer did not.
Kiffin's experience was limited at best, didn't make it a full season with the raiders. True, Butch and Dooley but neither was a hot commodity. Don't tell me you didn't scratch your head with both of those hires. CPF is a different because he was promoted from within after being at his alma mater for a long time.

Finally back from up the wedding I was at all weekend and now time to watch the game. I thought about not watching it; but regardless of the outcome I’ve waited too long this offseason to not watch and we only get so many games a year. I’m actually glad I know the outcome and will go into the game looking for positives knowing it won’t be great. Wish me luck.

Unfortunately I think if you have 4 years to do something, and you’ve done it wrong for 50-75% of that tenure, it doesn’t all of a sudden click on for most guys. They’ve been wasted. Others were just bad evaluations.

Pruitt made the comment on his coaching show about a percentage of the roster not being “bought in” and they very likely never will be. His actual words. So he has identified a group of guys and we’ll see what he does with them.

Couple all this with a comment Brent Hubbs made a couple of weeks ago on 990. He said something to the effect of Jeremy Pruitt being stunned 15-20 players got scholarships to play at UT. He thinks an additional 1/4th of the roster shouldn’t even be here!
I want to see the Jeremy Pruitt show. Hopefully it will be shown nationally soon.

That is exactly how I felt, but like a lot of folks have said, and I admit I do too after reviewing the game. The score was somewhat decieving.

They did not dominate us on the ground, granted the LBs could have done a little better on that, but overall the defense played the run well...especially considering that they had to be preoccupied with the pass.

I will say this...if Jeremy Pruitt can not get the older guys in the secondary to play any better than that..it is just a fundamental truth that they suck and are just going to continue to suck. The guy is a proven DB coach, and so is Kelly. The fault is absolutely with the players..if those guys can't teach you, and make you any better...you just just don't have it in you. That is depressing.

I had doubts the day he was hired. I had doubts the day Lane was hired. I had doubts the day Dooley was hired. I had doubts the day Butch was hired. That doesn't mean i wasn't cheering for their success. Thst doesn't mean I was confident they'd fail.

My biggest take from Saturday was how bad this team is and how far we had to go. I thought we had the pieces to be a fairly decent football team. It was a reality check as to how big of a project this is. It was also a reality check as to how inexperienced coach Pruitt it is. He's never deat with the type of adversity he's having to deal with, at least on this scale. He's always just put in another five star stud to replace a five star stud that's not performing. If he had a slightly weak position group, he could diguise it by utilizing other position groups. This is truly uncharted waters for him.

I've said this multiple times on here, the UT administration doesn't care about fielding a winning football team. All they care about is the bottom line. They are the most profitable program in the SEC bringing in revenue that tops off as neck and neck with every program in the SEC while spending much less, 1/2 of what Bama does. They take advantage of the most loyal fan base in the country. They know they can keep throwing anyone out there and fans will keep throwing their maid all thatoney at it.

When you hire a head coach you gamble whether they'll be successful. The lower experience level of the hire the less chance of success. The UT administration thinks gambling on an up-and-comer is better than spending more money on an established coach.

Having said all that, I like this coach better than the previous three. The odds are stacked against him and he has a monumental task ahead of him. I am 100% behind him. But, there's not a poster n this board (at least intelligent one) that would bet their life house that CJP will get us back to where we want to be.

He has an AD the others didn’t have. He’s handling better than our fans.

Pruitt started 3 freshmen over more experienced guys in the secondary vs. a Heisman candidate QB. Does that make him the Anti-Jones? I hope so.
The more I think about that the more I think he was willing to sacrifice the WV game to get them ready for FL. Not that he didn't want to win or he expected to lose but he was prepared to let what happen, happen. The next two games probably are not going to be all that useful to get the young DBs up to speed so this was really his only chance.

It's attitude or a lack of want-to with some of these guys. They're either jaded or the experience hasn't been what they hoped or they're just not going to put in the effort to play at a higher level this late in their career. It would have been better if some of them had transferred, but they probably just want to graduate and move on to something other than football.

Some of the optimism for the season stemmed from talent finally stepping up. They've looked better in practice, but come game-time, some of the guys we need fall right back to last year's level. And some of the guys many hoped would finally be a factor are going to be stuck on the sidelines.

Some bright spots for me:

1. We have our QB. This one is big coming from game 1. Even after a win last yr in game 1 we didn't know who our QB should be neither did the team

2. Running game despite Chandler missing basically entire game then London missing most of 2nd half. We have a nice group 1-4 there.

3. OL got better as the game went along. Disaster start but they eventually got going. The mistakes are correctable with more playing time together. Trey missed all of spring and most of camp. Jahmir had the hand injury first part of fall camp. Kennedy had a hamstring the week before last that had Him miss the first few days of treys return that had jahmir move to G which caused johnson to miss RG work working at C. These guys really only worked this past week together as a unit in there spots.

4. Alexis showed he can help. Each of the starting DL had a nice moment of two in game just need more

5. WRs are much better coached

Negative spots:

1. Lbs were total non factor - talent seems too good to stay bad here- hoping the matchup was the issue here.

2. TEs were not good in run game - I see why they worried about this position as soon as they got here.

3. Abernathy, Buchanon, Osborne are atrocious - now we see why he is in a hurry to play his guys. Also see why we moved 2 WRs and a RB to secondary. - Abernathy is just bad at football- Buchanon doesn't challenge for the ball

4. Didn't challenge them vertically offensively. Think we missed a chance here. Our WRs were working the DBs
Jahmir is NJ nasty. I love that sh!t!

It’s hilarious. These guys get cult leader status around here until it goes south then everyone pretends they saw it coming the whole time and never liked the guy in the first place.
Except me! I back em until I fire em! Then I allow the rest of you to relive their tenures In incessant perpetuity.
