We tried to temper your expectations

And you stick your perpetual lamenting, opposition...

So the rest of us can look FORWARD...
Doesnt forward usually start on Monday after a game? I thought today was the airing of greviences.

I've shared my bright spots in other threads, btw.

If we had scored in the fourth quarter, it would have looked a lot different at 33-21. But, we didn’t.

Point is that that we had a few chances to make it a fight (second quarter with chance to take the lead was another) but failed to get it done every time.

I do think that we should have turned the t/o in to points

This staff has limited options...we aren’t that talented...most understand this by now...

There’s a time for acceptance...most have...

That is the popular premise. This thought of.... Last year we had talent and no real coach; This year we have a real coach and no talent... has me dubious

I did expect to win yesterday.

Im not the type to complain or whine much about anything, especially a football game I didn't play in. I have made a couple posts about what I thought our team was lacking.

I don't need anyone to tell me how to root for my team, period. Go tell your kids what to do if you have that urge.

Butch had 5 yrs with these guys...

Pruitt has had 1 game...

Let’s see the big picture. There are decencies on both sides of the ball...we all saw it! Most of it isn’t coaching...

I get it...but, let’s not dwell on this beat down...

Things will get corrected, coached up....we will have a better gauge after the Florida game of what we have...coaching wise...

Let’s sew our discontent when the crop is harvested...not planted...

Understand your hope. Ive been there many times.

Here's a relevant question based on your own words: if we are deficient in talent how is the staff gonna coach them up?

Talent needs coaching...thus, the need for coaches...

There are teams that are super talented and a lot that aren’t....we are one..

Coaching wins games...it loses games...but, it didn’t lose yesterday’s game...

Good coaching will win a few games where they are out manned...let’s allow them to use the whole roster and season before we conclude guys can’t coach...

This guy can coach! He will take what we have and make them better...

That’s all any of us can ask or hope for at this point.

Fans at the traditional top schools don’t. And this suckage has been going on a long time. Many vol fans have embraced the what i call vandyitus. I refuse it.

That Vandyitus is some bad stuff. Vol fans, just say NO to Vandyitus!

So we have to wait a full season to determine he CANT coach, but you determined he Can coach.

I'll just wait and see and comment on what I saw yesterday.

I'm not. I'm saying CJP is a defensive specialist. In his inaugural game as HC our defense looked hapless, outmanned, and outschemed. 547 yards given up used to send this board into apoplexy.

I saw nothing yesterday to give me faith he's the answer. Although, I liked JG, and Jordan; also thought the 4th a goal call took massive guts.

He called the plays...we know who’s defense this is...

His resume speaks for itself...

Coaching did not beat us yesterday...let’s just stop right there with this...

Talent IS the issue...glaringly...

No last year we didn't have a lot of talent and bad coaching= 4-8. 2017 6 NFL draftees only 1 in 1rst or 2nd round. 2016 0 NFL draftees and 8-4 with the same coaches.... that same talent that were juniors. I can't look at a single player on this 2018 rooster that played yesterday thats a "sure fire" selection other than shy.... but due to injury history he might not make it either????
Who is to say? I don't think we have the talent on this roster that's half as good as the last 2 years and coaching kept that ineffective.

My expectations were set at 5-7 and I'm still disappointed. I never expected a win yesterday. I did expect improvement.

I understand that. What I'm talking about is the outlandish preseason sunshine pumping that we would have a top 5 Defense this year based on nothing but a new scheme and new coaches. Or that beating WV would be easy, and all the other hype we generally always have huge punchbowls full of before it's actually kickoff for the first game. We always see crowing about some new Adonis who is destined to be All American before he has ever played against competition. Over and over again, some posters mislead others into unreal anticipations. I have maintained all along that we wouldn't have an idea of what we have until we begin playing some real competition rather than ourselves. So now we have something to base our opinions on. Instead, now that we have actually seen live action and performance, those same sunshiners now don't want to talk about it. They are so disappointed that they don't want to examine the stats and what is needed going forward.

In a way, that shellacking yesterday might be just what CJP needed to see. He now knows how very far we have to go, if he didn't know before, to play big boy football again, who he can count on going forward, and just how soon he needs to find replacements at many positions. Hey, I get that our fans don't think our historic FB traditions shouldn't require them this kind of pain. But the reality of it is that we finished dead last in the SEC last year and we are currently below the traditional bottom feeders. Until we get better, we don't need to be blowing smoke of how good we plan to be. Most of us are mature enough to wait until we see improvement in the form of wins and performance before we go making grand pronostications. Show me before you go telling me. Don't feed me no line. I'm tired of that. I'm patient enough for CJP to change things, but I have run out of patience with our preseason sunshine pumpers feeding us their usual unfounded b.s. based on dreams absent of reality.

I'm comfortable for you to believe talent is the issue. In fact I'm glad you've got it figured out. I'm not there yet. Talent, coaching, S&C, all the above...everything is on the table for me.

You are part of the crowd that remains problematic for the realists. You insist on talking success without producing success. Like an OM fan that yelled at me pregame in Memphis in 96 that they would kill us and sat sullenly later in the game as we amassed a 42-3 win over them. Talk is cheap, even in sports. It don't mean a thing if you can't back it up. Or even come close!

I knew that WV was going to get a lot of yardage on our defense. They came into this game with what many believe to be the finest passing game in the country. Remember, it's WV's first game of a new season also, and some have expectations as the finest team they have fielded. We don't know yet. Meanwhile , though there are area's that we're very talented( offensive skill position, LB's and safeties) o-line and secondary were the two gaping holes in our game that had to be rebuilt. Note all the players switching positions. If everything was ok there, they wouldn't have been doing that. So I was prepared to be torched for high yardage in the passing game.

That being said, the part I can't accept is the o-line making the WV defense look like a power house. I don't expect greatness from them this year but we should expect them to be serviceable. This offense would take off if they could be just that. You saw a second string RB gain 118 yrds and get it all on his own. Do you think last years offense could of had a 17 play drive for a td? I don't know what it is that can't be fixed about o-line. We don't improve until they improve, that is all there is to that.

If you are so mentally weak, that the manner another fan chooses to cheer for their team causes you problems, then maybe cheering for a team isn't for you.

And so what if I expect to win? Doesn't mean I accept the losses or mediocrity that the program had been mired in thr last 10 years any less than you. It just means that I don't want to be pessimistic about something I enjoy.

You guys that cloak yourself in this "realist" title to me are like the guy that got his heart broke and are so scared to take a chance again that they hold everyone that comes along at arm's length.

I have failed at plenty of things in my life, but refuse to let it stop me from trying something new or taking a chance.. on anything.

We get one shot at this life and I'm gonna enjoy it. I'm sorry my positivity has kept us from getting a good coach, the choices that the AD had made for hires, the choices the BOT has made for AD, the Haslams using UT like their personal plaything. I'll try to do better.

And for the record, how has my positivity directly caused you problems? Did I accidentally spill some on you and get your hopes up once, but you ended up disappointed and couldn't handle the emotion it caused? Let me know and I'll try to avoid getting any on you next time.

Edit - and for the record, I don't talk a lot of smack, usually give my opinion on the team to other vol fans. The teams settle it on the field and the one with better players or coaching usually win. I don't have to thump my chest to others to feel good about the Vols.
