247's talent composite says we're 20th but we play more like a team that's 60th-70th best in the nation IMO. That's why the SEC wins will likely come from either Vandy or UK.

Guys either aren't being developed or our recruiting evaluations have been pisspoor. Possibly both on many recruits.
I think it all comes down to misevaluations in the trenches. The last staff was piss poor at finding top talent in that area.

It’s clear otherwise that we have good skill position players.

Guys if we find a pass rush we’ll be okay. We will improve tremendously on defense with just that addition. Hopefully we can. Maybe jj is the answer.

We need to be patient

We do but I'm not sure about fans showing up during our 5 game stretch. I hope we dont have like 50k in the stands our last 3 or 4 home games. Wont be good for recruiting

The fact two of the big three DL commits Butch had committed were not really wanted by this staff should confirm the missed evals and their failure in getting top players outside of Barnett and shy. We need some good ones.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I felt like the o line really started to play well from the second quarter on. After the atrocious start, I don’t remember much pressure on JG and we started really opening up lanes in the run game. The only exception was the lack of push on the goal line. I’m more concerned about the defensive line than the offensive line after yesterday.

Other hot take...despite Jordan’s great game, our most talented back is Banks. He looked to have more juice in the limited touches he got. I hope we get to see a lot of him the next two weeks. I predict he is getting an equal share of the carries by the end of the year.
I was waiting to see if anyone else mentioned this.. I know it was a small sample but I really liked what I saw from him, guess it comes down to how quickly he learns pass protection..

Re-watching the game now to try and learn some things.

First drive, they absolutely shredded us in zone. Kirkland can’t be out there if we want to play any kind of zone, he’s slow

Phillips, Shy, and Alontae look solid. Only had 10 men on the field on 2nd and goal. Can’t have that.

Thought Alexis Johnson looked good too. Our interior D line actually played well.

I'm 23 and this is about right IMO. Talk to any football fan who knows anything and they think Tennessee is of the same caliber as a Missouri, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, etc. I think Pruitt is going to be our last chance. If he doesn't get it done, that's just the level this program is going to be at more often than not. It's kind of like believing in Santa Claus as a kid. You believe he's real, but every year you don't see him you kinda lose more and more faith. Until eventually, you're like yeah this dude ain't real. Lol we'll see.

Very well actually. Just watched the first half but we consistently got penetration and stuffed the run game.

LBs were awful. Looks like they were thinking too much and a step slow to fill the lanes. Shy, Phillips, Alexis, and even Gooden all had flashes. Shy was a man in there

Taylor actually got pressure and almost caused the INT on the one where Flowers came over the top

The ball typically came or so quick our guys didn’t have a chance to get pressure.

Please get a scout out to a Dyersburg Trojan game! Watch #4 Russell MLB/RB he has D1 talent I hope we are giving him a look before Memphis gets him. We need help on DEFENSE! He's fast, Big, and a Head Hunter on Defense! You can watch his video against Brighton on Tweeter other Hudl.com. I hope to see him on the Hill. I go to different games and go see talent in my area. I will check back in and let you guys know another big time talent. Don't forget the kid in Milan. He plays WR his last name is Herron just a Junior.

Offensively.

Jordan was great but still left a lot of yards on the field. Missed the cutback lane on several opportunities when he ran right into the defenders. He should improve that with more play. Runs really hard. Adding Chandler as a change of pace guy should be a nice combo.

JG was better but still made some young guy mistakes. Messed up a few protection packages that caused him to get blasted. When he had time he looked confident and got the ball in there. Still didn’t move around the pocket great but it looked better than last year. Definitely room for improvement.

WRs were studs. Only small issue was they could block better but other than that a very impressive showing.

TEs outside of Eli can’t block worth a crap. Got embarrassed. We were almost nonexistent here.

Now the OL. First 2 drives were rough. Looked to be more miscommunication that anything. Guys got beat but the G/C “meet point” was awful and killed the first couple drives. When everyone got on the same page we actually looked pretty good. Kept JG clean (if he maneuvered the pocket better it would look ever better) and got a little push in the run game. Long story short, once we get the kinks out I think we’re gonna be ok up front. Jahmir is really athletic and has a nasty streak.

Play calling left a little to be desired. Felt a couple times we tried to force things instead of taking what the defense gave us. That 3rd and 4 call was even worse on replay. Have to do a better job on the play calling and putting our guys in position to succeed imo. Chandler going out early didn’t do us any favors.

There’s some optimism to be had on that side of the ball. Just some thoughts from a Moran

Agree.

If I knew how to put video on here I would. I was living in Jackson TN. This guy inside Goody's ask my Dad and I have we seen Al Wilson play. We both said no and went and him the next Friday night against their rival Jackson North Side. He was the real deal I knew it that night. He went to UT and Won the National Championship in 1998 starting LB! He played that night in high school MLB/FB. He high stepped from 30 yds out for a Touchdown on offense. You know the rest of the story. Played at UT and Denver Broncos in the NFL!
