Looking for you and a couple others to rep the SEC today!

I guess (know) I'm old school but I root for conference rivals in these openers. Pays off for everyone in the long run. So good luck to you, Auburn, and 'bama today. Hope you take a big step forward!

Thanks. I can agree on the barn boys but I’m not ever rooting for bammers.

I'm with ya, Gator. Always root for our SEC brothers when they're playing outsiders. That may not be a super popular perspective on these boards, but it's a smart one.

Go Vols!

I don't exactly root for them, but I understand that it can only hurt Tennessee in the long run if other SEC teams lose non-con games. So I don't root against them, either.

But I cannot deny that I do thoroughly enjoy it when they lose.

SEC teams winning their OOC games makes the SEC look stronger and the team that wins the SEC more likely to get into the four final teams. Simple concept but some can't get past the hate usually because they have more contact with opposing SEC fans. To each his own I guess.

Rivals winning only makes them more successful on the recruiting trail. I hope they all lose

I get that, 83. It is a good counter-argument.

On the other hand, there's an argument that cuts both ways that goes, "just win and everything else will work itself out."

So one side uses that argument to say, "we don't need the SEC to be respected, as long as we win every game, we'll get to the playoffs and have every opportunity we need to be #1."

The other side uses that same argument to say, "it doesn't matter how good the other teams are, we will see great success on the recruiting trail as long as we just keep winning."

Both arguments are good, they work.

So really, the whole "do you root for other SEC teams" question comes down to this: do you see the SEC as a family, a bunch of brothers that you'll fight with in the back yard, but stand beside against outsiders? or do you see the SEC as a collection of all those teams you hate the most?

I see it as a brotherhood. Some brothers I like more than others, but I'll support them all when outsiders come knocking.

Ut first and most, but always SEC..... Many on here are not old enough to remember when the only teams in the WORLD were big 10. Then came Ok. and Neb. and Texas, there was no one else. Then with TV, we were fed that only So. Cal. and their lackeys were the only place to be. But through all this BS, above all looking down from on high, was god's chosen, ND.
So, for the SEC, I give my whole support always. But The U of Tenn. is my state, my pride and long sporting influence.

Guess I have that regional pride thing as well. I want the SEC to do well but I only stand and cheer/scream/spit/sling snot/cry and throw things for one team.

I'm actually going to go pull for FAU vs OU and I used to have a voodoo doll of Lane full of pins.
