Jeremy Pruitt has earned a grade of ‘A’ from his time of being hired in December to the eve of his first game day as Tennessee’s head coach.

Pruitt handled recruiting and building a coaching staff perfectly, a staff that from top-to-bottom is tops in the SEC, while in transition of finishing his job simultaneously as defensive coordinator at Alabama during the College Football Playoff.

After winning his fifth national championship as an assistant, Pruitt made his way to Rocky Top and instantly worked on changing the culture. He confronted players that he did not feel were giving their all following the Orange and White game, he also called out fans in asking why Neyland Stadium was not filled for the spring game like UT’s rivals Alabama and Georgia have done recently on an annual basis.

Players and the fan base are better now and all-in for him telling how it needed to be.

Pruitt and his staff have focused on teaching technique and fundamentals, something that will play a factor in competing in games this season, as early as the first game against West Virginia.

The first-year Tennessee head coach has handled media obligations at ease, something most coaches cannot handle or do not like doing. Pruitt enjoys talking football and being genuine shows in press conferences. He handled false accusations against his character well from former Georgia players at SEC Media Days. There are no cliches and nervousness to hide behind during media availability, Pruitt only wants to talk football and he does.

I guess we will find out tomorrow what grade he deserves from his time so far at UT. Hard to grade what hasn't been turned in. He has been hired to win and wins is what he will be judged by.

"He hired a staff that is tops in the SEC" I hope he did, but we have no idea where they rank as a staff yet. I also don't think he likes doing interviews either. He acts like he just wants to get through them and i like that just fine as long as he wins. He seems to have done what he has needed to do so far off the field and tomorrow we start to find out if he has been doing that on the field as well.

I must have missed the point of the thread. I’m grading him on what has happened since becoming HC.

You are right about not being able to grade him on his 1st game. This time tomorrow we will have a better idea of how he will handle being the HC of the Volunteers. I’m expecting more of what we have already seen. Solid football plans and decisions

I guess I was meaning more or less not much has happened since becoming coach to know what kind of grade to give. He had a pretty decent class considering. Had some interviews that he seemed to do fine with. So did Butch so im not sure that says much. He did a great job of keeping our players from leaving and sticking with him and I give an A++ for that. Really, that was a big deal imo.

The bulk of what CJP has done since stepping on campus is work on improving this team and we won't know how much until tomorrow. That's what I meant. I understand this was grading his time here so far but I'm not sure what to grade? For instance, we could've hired Nick Saban in his prime or Butch Jones at the exact same time we did CJP in the exact same situation and at this point im not sure what difference we as fans would be able to see to grade?

I'll give another A+ for finally having a man that speaks like an actual football coach.

I am excited to be going to the game tomorrow, but I also can't wait to welcome him to Neyland next week.

I’ll say this, I’ve read this forum since last year and commented when I wanted to (some of my comments have been drivel, others when I didn’t want to stand on the side lines anymore, even when they haven’t contributed much), but, I’ve watched this fan base moving from about 40% acceptance of of our new coach to more of a 80% acceptance (old woman math). We’ve had a stand back approach and wait and see mentality . Not afraid to admit, ive bought in and a lot of fans have also, because we have hope and like what we have seen so far and of course, love our Big Orange. WGWTMFA tomorrow. I finally believe it.

So far, so good. Win, lose or draw tomorrow we will have an idea of how it's gonna be going forward.

This is where I am. Pruitt has done great and love hearing the reports. But let’s see how things play out. Tomorrow will give us a good picture of this season against a good WV team.

My son was playing a Jeremy Pruitt presser the other day. Yes, he butchers the queen's English. But as I listened to him describe the his expectations for the WV game. I like his football IQ. It's not fake (in a Butch Jones way) or it's not brash.. It's humble. I thought to myself, I'm so happy I'm listening to this guy rather than Greg Schiano.

This link is from the middle of his conference and starts at a point that demonstrates what I'm trying to describe.
