I don't even know what "signature win" means. Do you?
Here are some possible meanings, from less to more impressive:
-- Beating a Top 25 team? That's not really so impressive for a program with our history and lineage. I mean, we've even done that a handful of times just in the Butch Jones era (#11 USCe in 2013, #19 UGa and #13 NW in 2015, #19 FL and #25 UGa in 2016). So that's probably not "signature" (although this season, starting off with a win over #17 WVa would sure feel nice).
-- Beating a key annual rival--a Florida, Georgia, or Bama? In a world where the Vols rarely get to Atlanta, much less win the SEC crown, some of these might be considered "signature." But let's sure hope we don't live there. I'd prefer to think whipping at least two of the three each year becomes a new "normal."
-- Winning the SEC championship in Atlanta? Now we're getting somewhere. This would indeed be worthy of the nebulous "signature win" monikor. Sadly, it's not going to happen in 2018. Maybe 2019 and beyond.
-- Winning a New Years Six bowl (including a first-round playoff match)? Also would be very impressive. Also not gonna happen in 2018.
-- National title? If ever there were a signature win, I guess this is it. And who knows how quickly we can get back to this level of football. But certainly not this season, and I'd be shocked if we leapt that high in Pruitt's year #2. Time will tell.
So I don't know. What definition are we working with?
