Josh Dobbs (merged)

Reports are the Steelers are going to start Dobbs on the final preseason game...
Really seems like a waste.
Let's say Dobbs goes crazy has 4 TDs vs 0 INT with monster yardage...What do the Steelers do?
It's a bit too late to trade him on Sept 1st...the 53 man deadline
Do you get rid of Jones and a 2 million dollar contract buyout?
Do you remove your 3rd round pick and seem foolish?
keep 4 QBs?

They should have started or played him heavy him last week and worked on a trade.

Now, they are basically wasting the final preseason start on someone they can't realistically do anything with. Maybe they can still work an 11th hour trade.

Jones has the backup spot, that's been apparent since they sat him in the second game and stuck Dobbs in on the second half.

Tomlin is starting Dobbs to give him every opportunity to make himself a tradable QB prospect.

Again, it's not a waste at all. They aren't starting Dobbs to get one last look at him. They're starting him so Roethlisberger and Jones don't run any risk of getting hurt during a pointless exhibition.

I agree it's not for a last look...

When why not start Rudolph? The Rookie is not going to see the field during the season. May as well let him see some 1st stringers, and have Dobbs clean up.

The same thing they were going to do before the game; either trade him or waive him and possibly sign him to the practice squad if no team gets him.

Most teams don't give 2 craps about the last preseason game. The 3rd preseason game is usually when they do as close to a real game simulation as they get in the preseason.

It's disappointing to see how Pitt has handled this entire situation. I never understood the Mason Rudolph pick in the first place, especially considering they traded up to get him. Now they are going to most likely release a prospect (Dobbs) who is still incredibly young just to keep a bad investment in Jones. Rudolph has been less than impressive this pre-season, and in some aspects he has been worse than Dobbs. I hope Roethlisberger actually sticks around for a few more years, because if Rudolph is the "QB of the future" Pittsburgh is in trouble.

For the same reason that they aren't playing the #1 and #2. BR goes down first game and Rudolph is the #2. Feels like Josh better get his resume updated and start looking for an AE job or looking at going back to school as a GA at UT and getting his Masters. The longer he goes out of his degree field, the more difficult it will be to demand top dollar to get in.

And Dobbs was hardly impressive last year.

No, he was exceedingly mediocre. But its interesting to see how many franchises give up on a draft pick after one season. What is also interesting is seeing just how many people here enjoy knocking Dobbs. I'm not blind and don't believe he is going to be a Hall of Famer one day or even an exceptional NFL QB, but he has just as much potential as many other #2/#3 guys and it seems like too many people on this forum get enjoyment out of watching him struggle.

Except it's not.

You clearly are not a Dobbs fan.

And you're clearly thin-skinned. Personally, it's getting tiring seeing the kneejerks like yourself act like everyone pointing out facts to a clown troll is "knocking" Dobbs.

Most of the same people point out to said clown that Brad Kaaya isn't going to be an All Pro QB like he claimed; is everyone "knocking" Kaaya?

If I'm Dobbs and I ball out in week 4 of the preseason, I would demand a trade.

After the way they have disrespected him, they don't deserve to have a talent like Dobbs.

I'm sure there are many other teams that would appreciate him more.

I hate to be the bearer of incredibly obvious news, but no one has offered a trade for Dobbs.

And, beyond the fact that there are no eager partners, a 2nd year player who has yet to play a down is in no position to demand a thing.

Dobbs has Boeing, Lockheed and Nasa to fall back on. Not a bad plan B in the long haul. And a lot easier on the knees.

He has plenty of time for all that, and will get more opportunities in the NFL. I don't think he'll ever be a full time starter but he can have a good career as a backup and part time starter.

Dobbs is in no position to be demanding anything.

Could you imagine that scene?

SCENE Interior - Office of Steelers GM KEVIN COLBERT

Enter JOSH DOBBS. He is clearly upset.

DOBBS: Look here, Colbert. The Steelers have made it painfully clear that I'm about to get waived or released. This will not stand. I demand that you trade me.

COLBERT: Josh, get the f*** out of my office.

D4H wants to play the role of Dobbs.... k?

Have you seen Rudolph play? He needs the experience.
If Rudolph goes down to injury, they put him in injury reserve and keep all four QBs.

I think for most of us, any enjoyment doesn't come from watching Dobbs. It comes from watching D4H spin, spin, spin.
