They gave up 208 yards a game on the ground in the pass happy Big 12 and weβre gearing our entire offense for a power running attack.Slow down there hard charger. They have a couple of grad transfers on that DL. We don't know how "soft" they'll be, if at all. First step to a loss is to underestimate the opponent.
I too like confidence, but we've done nothing as a team yet to warrant being braggadocious.
Thinking out loud on this, feel just the opposite. It adds that pooch strategy, or one similar, to the kick off. Sky the ball, focusing on hang time, and get your team under it. If you can't pin the offense back and play field position, then try to create turnovers with a jump ball. You don't have to use the kicking tee, right?
yeah, i don't think we're far off at all. im a little more skeptical on how good our defense will actually match up. i agree on the size and physicality, but they're probably faster...does that negate our supposed advantage?
you hit the nail on the head though, if we can get the game to the point where depth does matter, even with our issues with depth, they seem to have bigger issues in that arena. so that could play a role, we'll just have to see if the game gets to a point where that matters........

I stand by what I said.
Gotta agree, we can't sell their run game short.
Against Virginia Tech, they rushed for 220 yards (6.31 ypc), and VT wound up being the 15th run defense in the country.
Against Iowa State, the 23rd best run defense, they rushed for 208 (4.43).
Even against Oklahoma, they ran for 250 (5.02).. OU obviously isn't known for their defense, but they still finished upper half nationally in run defense.
Yea, the back that carried the load last year is no longer there. The backs we will see are very improven...
If we make their run game a non-factor and allow the back-six or seven to play the pass consistently, we'll do okay.[/

They would just fair catch it, and now there's no penalty to fair catch a short kick so it would be brought up to the 25. You can't jump ball a kickoff, if they fair catch it they have to be given space to catch it. That's why on onside kicks it's always bounced on the ground first
Thing is, I donβt know if our offense will be good enough to keep pace with theirs. And a lot of this comes down to red zone scoring, turnovers and the kicking game. Iβm not saying we win. But I am damn sure we will be able to run the ball on them.If we can control the pace of the game i love our chances to win. Thatβs basically not giving up big plays, busted coverages. Make them sustain drives. I donβt see them marching up and down the field on us as long as we keep stuff in front of us.
