We have next to no shot in a shootout IMO. In a perfect scenario I'd like to see Chandler, Jordan and London run the ball between 35- 45 times combined, take care of the football on offense, keep our defense fresh, and break their will in the 4th. Looking forward to it.

their defense is horrid. we are a threat to score every possession on them.

They're more of a threat to score on us. The game plan will likely center around playing conservative, ball control offense. Why I won't be surprised if they trot Chryst out there. I don't want to get in a shoot out with what potentially could be the number one pick in the draft next year.

there's two things we know about the O line. Kennedy and Smith are going to be pretty good.
and maybe we fell good about Jamir, R Johnson, locklear, tatum and clabert. and we have hope for hall.

i totally agree, that whichever way Richmond goes, will say a lot about how successful the O line is this year. cause if he is good, then that settles things down quite a bit, and you can have some flexibility wtih the rotation from those other 5 guys.

Kennedy and Smith should be able to give us a good push in the inside running game, with a FB coming behind them to hit an LB. And they should be able to keep the pocket from collapsing from the front, so whoever the QB is can at least step up in the pocket if the edges give way, and won't have a pass rusher in their face.

I'm not sold on JG yet. If he can get rid of the ball and not take sacks like last year ,then yes, we can probably score pretty easily on them.

The only question is does Pruitt WANT to play that style of ball?

Jmo, but I don't think he does. I think he wants to use the clock to take away their opportunities to score on offense. Keep Grier and those receivers on the sideline.

I'm hoping we can have the kind of offense that scores at will, but I'm not sure that we do. I think the OL will be much better this year. I feel we have some weapons at RB and WR, but I'm not sold on JG or KC being able to distribute the ball down field consistently. I think it's gonna be a run first mindset until one of the QB'S emerge as the leader and the guy that can move the ball.

Run, throw enough down field to keep them honest, no turnovers or major mistakes, and play tough D.

Everyone's got their opinions of JG and our QB situation. I'm comfortable with JG and think he will be better with more than 1.5 seconds of pass protection every dropback.

Regarding Pruitt's preference, I thought it was stated here that he's pretty hands-off of the offense, letting Helton do his thing. Helton's said in interviews that he's gonna call the plays that it takes to win, not gonna be tightly bound to one style, whether it's west coast or ground-n-pound. I think we have personnel to be pretty multiple, hinging only on whether or not CWF can whip our OL into shape. Doesn't mean we will have an "at will" offense, just means we can do enough different things to fool the opponent in the right situations. Playcalling will be really interesting IMO.

Ten minutes of my life, I will never get back. No knock on u, Souce. But, damn'it that was boring. One good thing, next time I have insomnia, I know how to fix it.
Haha, no I agree. I didn't even finish the entire video myself.

Simonton said Emerson is at the very bottom of the pecking order for DL. Just shows that rankings miss

I was worried he would be a bust. Got all his offers from those camp performances but his junior film was meh. Didn't not have senior film to compare it to to know if what people saw in camp would translate to field. Still have some hope that he will be a slower developer because he had a rough injury

they are also prone to turnovers. two things are crucial in football. the run game and turnovers. we have the advantage in both. Vols by 13

He did sound a little butthurt when a reporter brought up the 2012(?) year where they had a historically good offense and a bad defense caused them to be mediocre. Very quick to snap that this is a different team and yada yada. I may be over analyzing that, but maybe, just maybe he's uncomfortable and he's trying not to let his guys catch a whiff.

Dog, how bored were you before, that you gave it 10 mins?! I'm sorry you made such a commitment, buddy. You should be disappointed in yourself. 😀

I completely agree with everything said here.

We should probably shorten the game as much as possible. Run the clock out when we have the ball and keep Grier off the field as much as possible

I started out thinking the same thing because that sounds good if we can do it but I really think we have to sustain offensive TD production regardless of the clock. I don't know if we can consistently do anything we want to do but if we're punting a lot or kicking FGs I think we'll be in trouble even if we burn clock in the process.

Will Grier is the key for them and us. Their receivers are an extension of his play. Without him I don't know who they could beat. Their last 3 games last year without him their scoring average was less than 20 points per contest. They stll had all their receivers and running backs but they lost all 3 games. Will is a gamer - the sort of guy from a QB perspective we wished we knew we had. At the 9 minute mark in the 3rd quarter last year against Texas Tech WVU was trailing by 18 points, 17-35. From that point on Grier tossed 4 TD passes and WVU won 46-35. We obviously need to have good coverage but I think it's more important that we have a sustained and relentless attack on Grier. I think clearly Texas Tech stalled on offense after they got up by 18 points. We probably have to sustain offensive TD production for the duration. I really don't want to be in a position in the 4th quarter of daring Grier to do something to win the game. In short I'd like to see us get the lead and continue building on it. If we have to be aggressive to score be cautious about changing what's working. jmo.

Last year GT embarassed us with their run game and control of the clock. They ended up losing the game and having to settle for claiming to be the better team. Like it or not in order to win this game we will eventually have to score more points than Grier & Co. If we are successful running the ball they will be forced to load the box on us. If at the end of the game we determine we couldn't run the ball well enough the real reason we may lose the game is we weren't able to pass the ball well enough. We cannot afford to be any more one-dimensional than we will try to make them. The only way for us to stop this from being a shootout is for our defense to stop Greir. On our side we need to score as many TDs as possible, however we can do it, and keep scoring TDs. Of course we don't want a shootout with them; what we want is a blowout against them. I don't think any lead for us in the waning moments of the game will be safe. jmo.
