I think they absolutely want Chryst to win the job and the reason a QB hasn’t been named because JG has been consistently more impressive.
not sure how i feel about that statement. i'm trying to figure out why he would want KC to win the job?

what's the motivation there, to want it for one, but not the other? just b/c he brought KC in? dunno.

i think he's getting what he wanted....competition and somone, or both, are getting better..........

Chryst fits the offense better and has the confidence of the coaching staff from a playbook, adjustments, etc. perspective.

JG has the better arm and has performed pretty well in camp - although he’s been more boon or bust.

They’re going to give Chryst every chance to win the job.

agreed. and i think people are having a somewhat difficult time with reconciling all of this with what may be a more conservative approach in 2018.

the goal is to be as balanced as possible. what that looks like in 2018 vs. the rest of his tenure....it'll probably be a little different going forward.
I'm of the same mind. I think the offense will get more explosive over time as the players and coaches get more comfortable with each other and as we add more weapons.

We’re going to attempt to be a power running team. For that, you need a guy who can set up the offense and check to the appropriate protections/slides. When we do pass it’ll be play action/screens/get the ball out quickly.

Frankly they just want the guy who won’t get them beat.
for this year, yeah, i definitely agree with that.

And that’s what we’re talking about.

From what I’d heard I was very high on JG - thought he’d have a big year.

Now it seems like they’re planning to ride Chryst (if he shows more consistency these next two weeks) and either hope JG doesn’t transfer (he will if he’s not the guy), try to get Hurts next year, or do their best to make sure Shrout is ready.

I floated the Hurts idea in the FF the other day, mostly as a joke. But if jg does leave, it does open the door for Hurts to come here next spring or summer, provided similar things play out at bama...

Total speculation on my part. But those pieces could fit potentially..

I think it's a bit ridiculous to think that they won't start the QB who performs the best in camp.

Starting favorites was Butch's M.O.
I’m kinda with you but at the same time I understand the thinking of going with the guy who does the best job of being average.

JG might win you a game with his arm but he might also lose you a game or two. His internal clock is not good. He gets sacked a ton and makes questionable throws when the pressure is on him.

We've got a third-year guy and a fifth-year guy at QB, and neither is what they'd hoped. At this point, they're just looking for the lesser liability.
Bingo. The real stunner is Chryst did not come in here and take the job. I don’t think the coaches were prepared for that possibility.

Does Kirby call his own defenses at Ga?
A friend of mine is a GA fan. I asked him and he told me Mel Tucker calls the defense and Kirby Smart has referenced (made a point of emphasis) on this very subject stating that Mel Tucker is the one that calls the defense.

IDT they want to play them both against WVU... but I wonder if they'll end up doing that? And I wonder if Helton and Pruitt are in complete agreement?

Gove me whoever will not get us beat. I think Shrout and Maurer are the future anyway.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see both play. I’d bet Chryst starts but if he’s not moving the offense that JG gets a chance.

They're serviceable, but both have issues. Neither has wowed the coaches or stepped up and taken the job. It is what it is.

My outsider's guess is that it will take half a season to really know which quarterback on your roster is the best fit. Practice reps, even in scrimmage, don't give a very good indication of who will think well under game conditions. We all love a well thrown pass, but it's the ability to learn the scheme, read a defense and then execute it under fire that makes a good quarterback.

Having said that, if I was a Vol fan, I think I'd be hoping that Guarantano makes a move and takes the job at some point. If he could finish the season well, that would give your team a big boost heading into next year.
