Not sure if someone has already suggested this, but I'm gonna put it out there.

The Zach Smith and OSU story is trending like a same-sex affair is about to be exposed. McMurphy is sitting on a bombshell (no pun intended) and I think Urb's closet door is about to get flung wide open. Why else do you bring a guy like this, a WR coach no doubt, into your coaching staff and then retain him for several years? Don't think he's been irreplaceable as a recruiter.

Oh, and how come no one in the mainstream media is talking about the B1G's serious PR troubles right now? Penn St obviously, Maryland duh, Michigan St. and Nassar, now tOSU? Plus an Illini and Hoosier coach since 2015.

Other than Ainge (who doesn't count), this is the most positive, real, and true statement I have seen be expressed into a season prediction from a media source so far. The Athletic seems to be a real good one.

I’ve heard Feldman say on his podcast that the Vols have more talent than people think. Mandell on the other thinks we are terrible and could lose 8 again.

I still think we win 7. Two anomaly games of every season are the first game and bowl game because of prep time. Pruitt and staff will be ready to throw everything at Grier and I think we pull that one out. Then we win the 3 cupcakes and Vandy. That means we have to win 2/3 of Florida, Kentucky, Missouri all of which are at home. Then the outside chance of beating USCjr away (not sold on them.)

How come not a single reporter in all of Columbus OH has ever mentioned the DUI for Zach Smith? Or anything even remotely mentioned about his obviously more pressing affairs.

Tennessee has an assistant coach so much as fail to scoop his dogs shat off the sidewalk and the HOA launches a congressional hearing.

Why? I don't completely disagree with all of this, Chief; I'm just wondering why you believe it to be a "big time stretch"? Most already have us losing to UF and uSC, and I don't understand why; we have any other coach last yr and we beat both of them.

Agreed. I’m just skeptical of the idea that Florida, USCjr, Kentucky are automatic losses. We lost in the last minute to all of those teams last year and we were so poorly coached.

Why?

First year head football coach, and first year coordinators on both sides of the ball, implementing brand new schemes. There will be growing pains in year one. Middle of the road SEC talent from top to bottom, likely weaknesses at defensive line, in the secondary (at least early on), and in the kicking game. Not to mention questions at QB. Starting 22 is fairly decent overall I think but I don't think we have much quality depth, which we all know is a must if you're going to do anything of significance in this league. Kirby and Saban both inherited better situations when they took over at their respective programs, and struggled mightily at times in their first year. 6-6 this first year, with a strong 2019 campaign to follow.

Agreed. I’m just skeptical of the idea that Florida, USCjr, Kentucky are automatic losses. We lost in the last minute to all of those teams last year and we were so poorly coached.

I think we lose to South Carolina, we better handle Kentucky, and Florida could very well be a win. We'll need to win one of either WVU or UF to get to a bowl IMO. If we lose both it's going to be tough sledding.

I think so too. My personal prediction if 5-7 because Tennessee, but 6-6 would be a good foundation and it would be great if we could steal a couple and get to 7-5. We'll just have to see.

Idk if you read my edit of my question; but, great points all the way around. Although, I don't think it's a "big time" stretch, I agree getting to 7 wins in reg season is gonna be a grind, just because as you said, depth; but, I truly do believe we beat UF...any other coach besides Butch, and we have a what, 4-5 game winning streak against them. HE got us beat each time against them. And uSC squirmed out of here last year with that win, and again, all because Butch Jones and Larry Scott had no idea what to do inside the 5. We'll have to work, but I think 7 wins in reg season most certainly can be done...maybe "big time stretch" it to 8, maybe.
