well, technically, he's not wrong.

depends on how you look at it. Bama and UGA have been recruiting lights out the past few years, each of them in or around the top 3 nationally regularly, Bama, well we know where they've been for the last 9 years in recruiting.

so the gap right now is fairly wide between us, and those two. as evidenced by last year's games.

so, start signing top 10 classes, all that does is really get you caught up. you're not passing those two, and honestly i'm not sure anyone really can now, at least from a talent standoint.

and even signing a top 3 class this year doesn't guarantee you anythign as far as results go on the field. so, all we're doing right now is playing catch up....which will do nothing but get is to the point where we can compete with those kinds of teams again.

and again, given the results of last year's games....that's at least a step in the right direction. so "not good enough" is relative imo.

Top 10 is good but I’d still argue it isn’t good enough.
I'd lean more towards we need to be cracking that top 5 fairly often once the program is established. That's where UGA and Bama will be. As good as I think our coaching staff is, we're not going to outcoach either of those staffs. So our talent in time needs to be on their level if we're going to consistently compete.

Well hell..let's just forfeit the season then if we don't get top 5..I mean since the games are won in Feb, and not the fall, and there is no way we can compete unless we are top 5...We might as well just toss in the dang towel....

Well said. Top 10 is good and we should be *happy* with it. But relative to the top of the conference it means we aren’t making up the difference. Doesn’t mean recruiting is *bad*. Just not as good as Alabama and UGA.

The elusive triple post...

I'm hearing it sounds reasonable.

You all realize that there isn’t much difference between 1 and 4 or 5 and 10 in class rankings, right? Y’all getting hung up on this too much.
I guess the difference is I expect to compete for the East next season. A top 5 class probably has two or three more “game ready” players in Year 1 than a top 10 class - which is a big deal.

This isn’t a rebuilding job. We don’t need to “lay a foundation.” We need to sign difference makers (and we are getting our fair share to this point) to compete for the division. Just my take.

I like Jennings...but come on man...that is ridiculous..at least to this point. I hope he does what it takes to be thought of that way, but he has to do it consistently, every game to be considered one of the best in the country, not just make great plays occasionally.
Thought it last year, coming into the season, before he got hurt. Not ridiculous at all if you look closer, and you're not still being bent over by the past, like someone who shall remain nameless.
Caught 40 passes for almost 600 yds and 7 TDs his SOPHMORE yr, 14.5 yrds per catch.
He was primed to have a BIG year last year, and we don't go nowhere near off the rails as we did if he had not gotten hurt. Anyone who has the belief, for whatever reason, that he just makes big plays and isn't consistent, needs to go back and watch his Soph season again. That actually is a great idea for those of you that love living in the past and thinking about Butch all the time. I'm not going to argue with you all day and all night, like you love to do...you either see it or you don't.
I'll give it to you though, Ulysees...I got quite a laugh over YOU saying something is ridiculous.

Probably 1 to 2. Great coaching can make up some of the talent deficit.

UT should never be out of the top 3 in the East, based on the resources we have and the talent we're able to bring in. But knowing how to use that talent and developing players to their full potential has contributed to our downfall more than slipping in the recruiting rankings. Schools like SCAR and UK have been rising above their talent; we've been falling below ours.

agreed. i was just expounding on Kingston's rationale for his statement. and as he even said, i don't think anyone should be, or will be, upset at a top 10 class.

it's just a recognition of where we are in relation to the top 2 or 3 teams in the league.

that's not what i was saying. it's all relative is what i'm saying.

top 10 for us, right now, is really really good, if not freaking great.

top 10 won't get you to a national title, or a conf title, when compared to what Bama and UGA are doing.

not good or bad, just relative.
