Why is that irrational? That blows my mind that so many of you don't get it. I hope I am wrong, but it is not irrational for me to believe that without a real QB threat this offense is going to a pain to watch.

One dimensional offenses that do that one dimension really well, still get stuffed by any defense worth a dang, and struggle against even below average defenses when they only are average at that one dimension. If KC was a real threat, he would still he at Stanford. The guys he got beat out by are not great QBs either.

I am not being irrational. You may not like to hear it, but it doesn't mean I am not right. I hope I am wrong, but it's not looking good to me.

It’s irrational because your eyes have not seen our UT offense run one play in a real game yet.

If we start two freshman CB's vs WV

Don't see it. Buchanan has been running with the 1s most of fall camp. Alontae is in prime position to start, though.

On Gooden:
Emmitt got here this summer. He was a 4-star prospect but had grade concerns. Hard to label that the steal of the class. He's going to play a lot this fall and could work himself into the starting lineup but Tuttle will be the first-team nose vs. WVU.
-- Simonton

Sapp, Bituli, Kirkland on the field at the same time?
Eh, don't see it. Based on what we've heard and seen in the lone open practice, Bituli is only sliding down as as BUCK/rush end in the DIME packages. Otherwise there's just two inside LBs on the field together at the same time.

The one caveat here is if Bituli becomes such a force off the edge he slides down in nickel packages too (taking Taylor or Kongbo spot) and then Sapp and DK are the inside guys.
--Simonton

yes, could be a possibility.
--Hubbs

How has Maleik Gray looked?
Fine. Not sure how much of a factor he'll be right now though.
-- Simonton

I think he's struggled still. I think he's kind of without a position
--Hubbs

There's probably going to be a cost for this, right? Just like Frank and our missing likes...
What if somebody bumps the original Recruiting Forum Football Talk thread? It would be chaos. Nobody would do that, right? I mean, why would they? Unless they just like to watch the world burn.

When I think of our roster the one spot that really worries me is the DL. Not a lot there on paper behind the 3 starters. 2 of the 3 starters have history of being banged up and the other(Alexis)you don't know if he is a starter by default or he has decided to be what his ranking in Juco said he woulld be.

At the other positions their at least is hope that there is enough competition and talent to be serviceable at minimal at their positions. Examples such as OL and Secondary are question marks but there is talent that gives you hope that while headaches will be there but there will also be big plays. DL doesn't give me that same feel.

Jordan Murphy pushing to start?

I don't know about starting, but he's working himself into the rotation which he wasn't a part of back in the spring
--Hubbs

Best player at each level of the defense

Tuttle, Kirkland, Warrior
-- Lewis

Shy Tuttle
Bituli
now maybe Warrior, but mid-season maybe Alontae Taylor.
- Hubbs

1. Phillips
2. Bituli
3. Warrior

DB hardest one, IMO. Obviously Nigel has a strong rep and solid production in 2017 ... but staff is super high on Alontae, Flowers and Thompson

Crazy that a kid like gray with his athleticism and the way he looks can't find a position. Feel bad for the kid. He may be a guy that should consider transferring to a school that likes to use smaller LBs or has less competition at Saftey. He has looked like a good athlete in WR drills maybe it will catch on after a while.

Bennett & Butler?

Both are fighting for backup spots with freshman right now. Neither are ideal fits for scheme. I was high on Butler last season but he hasn't put it together yet. Still time but we'll see.
--Simonton

Shamburger?

He's gotten better as camp progressed. He's the starter at STAR right now and pushing Abernathy for a safety spot in base packages.
--Simonton

Kongo update after the scrimmage?

Have continued to hear positive updates on No. 1. The position change seems to be bringing out the best in him.
--Simonton

He did some good things. Has to work on being more consistent and physical.
--Hubbs

Why things so quiet after the scrimmage?
It's been pretty quiet from people for sure. Players aren't suppose to talk to their parents about it. So they are trying to keep things quiet.

One of the things is you have to sort through the various stuff you hear. Like Sunday night, there was a vibe that Chryst was far better than the rest of the qb's and they threw several picks. Reality is that Chryst and JG threw a pick a piece.

Still sorting through things from various people we speak with

Hubbs was all on the JG is by far the leader train. He can't jump off it yet even if it were true. Saving some face.
(PS I don't care who wins the job. Just want the best guy to)
