Anything interesting happen since Monday? Haven't been about to catch up and don't want to read 40+ pages.

(Bring back 50ppp Freak!) 😁

They may have been down statistically for the year, but didn't they beat Oregon in the NC game? If I recall, their defense totally throttled Oregon and they had been dominant offensively for the entire year. I think this does support your point to an extent.

If my memory isn't letting me down...
No yer right but Oregon actually had better defensive rankings by far. Here is an article from before the game from a Duck fan trying to show that they were better in almost every way statistically than Auburn from the week of the game.

2010 BCS Championship: A Defensive Look At The Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers

Talking about Auburn's D:
So just what statistical support is there for a team to win a BCS Championship Game with such a middle-of-the-pack defense like this? In two words: Absolutely NONE.

Since 2000, the winner of the Crystal Football has had a unit ranked no worse than 23rd in Total Defense, and no worse than 17th in Scoring Defense; each a far cry from Auburn's 54th ranking in BOTH categories, but actually very comparable to Oregon's 25th and 14th rankings.

For further reference, the last four SEC National Championship teams (2010 Alabama, 2009 Florida, 2008 LSU, and 2007 Florida) averaged having the fifth ranked total defense, and the seventh ranked scoring defense in the country—to go along with an average 21st ranked Total Offense and 15th ranked Scoring Offense.

And the 7 champions since then:

'11 Alabama 1st Scoring, 1st Total
'12 Alabama 1st Scoring, 1st Total
'13 Florida State 6th Scoring, 2nd Total
'14 Ohio State 2nd Scoring, 9th Total
'15 Alabama 2nd Scoring, 3rd Total
'16 Clemson 24th Scoring, 10th Total
'17 Alabama 1st Scoring, 1st Total

So other than Auburn and Clemson (who was still a very good defense an pretty much within the trend) I would say that even in this era of explosive and innovative offenses, that it is trending even further toward defense wins championships. 10 of the last 12 national champions finished no worse than 9th in either scoring or total defense. So to the other poster's point, yes a transcendent QB can overcome some defensive deficiencies, like Cam (whose defense performed outstanding in the championship game) and Watson (whose defense wasn't as good as the others but was still a very highly rated defense), it is far easier and more common for a good defense to overcome QB deficiencies. And yes, having both is truly the key. And I have no doubt we will have both in time. Probably sooner than later.

Hey, I'm changing banks and my new bank will let you design your own debit card.

I know I'm probably not going to like the answer (although I'm going to try anyway) but does anyone know...or, perhaps, any of our legal folks have an opinion...if the tristar logo is trademarked/copyrighted? I was going to use this image as the background for my card.

Well, they didn't approve that image (the terms and conditions said something about not allowing state or national flags, so I'm guessing that's why they didn't allow it).

So, I submitted this image, which I took at the 2016 Florida game (man, was it hot as hell that day, or what?), and it got approved. Not the Tri-Star, but will still be a pretty sweet debit card!

Well, if you're going to brag about it, it's only fair to let VN use it on occasion.

You know the drill...we need the number, expiration date and security code from the back.

I believe, maybe, although I was wrong earlier, speaking to someone else...I guess I see it as, yes, defense is how to win the SEC, but the dynamic QB is how to beat Bama, how to beat THEIR defense. In the end, that's what it comes down to, having to beat what they are known for. How many teams have faced them, and had enough talent to knock them off, especially on defense (LSU), but needed that superstar QB to make plays when Bama had shut everything else down?
The thing is, I believe Pruitt will give us both the defense AND superstar QB.
I think we're building a team to beat everyone, not just bama. And yes a star QB helps but bama has beat plenty of teams that had superstar qbs. Ole Miss beat them without a star qb a couple times. LSU too. It takes a complete team effort to beat them.

I like this one better, but the other would have been sweet also.

I appreciate the update very much. I also have to add that VQ's insistence on using the term "sexy" in their reporting is just not very sexy.
Yeah sexy should not come into any football talk unless is is about the cheerleaders.

Reading too much into it. They seem pretty confident to me. These aren't pros in front of media. Most of these guys rarely get a chance to do these interviews. Going to be nerves when surrounded by as many media members that we have
Like someone else said. They were surrounded by Vultures. I seen all kinds of devices being put up to their face. I bet that would, and all the lights and flashes, kinda bother some of our guys.

Anything interesting happen since Monday?

Well... Tuesday when I went home, I really wanted an egg salad sandwhich. And i was just obsessing about it. And i was like 'man I'm gonna make on of those.' So Wednesday I went out and I got like a dozen eggs and I boiled them all. And i spent probably three hours...like three and half hours, makin' you know, the mayonaise and the onions and paprika and, you know, all the accoutrement. And then, by the time I was done I just really didn't feel like eating it....And I didnt have any bread.
