And without Young Texas doesn't win a NC. Without Watson Clemson doesn't win a NC. Without Mayfield OU isn't as good as they were. Without Newton AU doesn't... I could go on and on. What the heck is your point?
Butch has the worst season in 120 yrs of playing football, the year after Dobbs just won him 18 games the two seasons prior. Does this suffice? Again, just to be clear...the very first year post Dobbs, Butch led us to the WORST SEASON WE HAVE EVER HAD IN 120 YEARS OF PLAYING FOOTBALL. Dooley NEVER did that.

Dooley never had a winning season...less room to fall. Not one bowl win. And all that with Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter, Cordarrele Patterson and NFL level OL. What if he hadn’t had those pieces? 🤮

exchanged some texts with Rush Propst and he said “next week sometime” when I asked him what the latest was on JJ. When asked if he would be done with his school work then or he expected him at TN by then, (crickets). Obviously Rush has been all over the place on JJ’s status. Just wanted to update you guys since some of you have asked.

Take Tim Tebow away from Urban’s days in Gainesville and he has that heart attack much earlier.
He may do it, but he doesn't lead his next team to it's worst season in 120 yrs. That's a century, plus twenty. The fact that Butch has been mentioned in the same sentence as Urban Meyer, Phil Jackson, and Bill Belichick shows how far a man's mind can slip. I give Butch all the credit in the world for bringing Dobbs to Knoxville, but exactly right there is where my credit comes to a schreeching halt.

Butch is a better Headcoach than dooley. There’s no doubt about that.
I think Dooley is a better pure football coach than Jones. I'd say his football IQ is higher, probably better at coaching fundamentals as well. Jones is just a far superior recruiter IMO.

First off, I was never a Tyler Bray fan, so his name means nothing to me. Dooley sucked, no question; he just didn't suck as hard as Butch. He may never had a winning season, but he never had the WORST SEASON, with supposedly better talent.

If this conversation was solely about Butch’s failure, I wouldn’t be weighing in. It’s indisputable. But to suggest Dooley was better based on a one game difference in one season? Gotta disagree strongly. Majors had a 4 win season...just didn’t play enough games to get that 8th loss. Butch gets credit for bringing in the players that won 3 bowl games and the shade for not developing others that led to last season...it’s part of the coaching package. Dooley was a total failure and was worse. Just keeping it even.

Doesn’t matter if you were a fan...he had talent that Dooley failed to harness into wins...and there was more than Bray. Butch had a winning overall record...Dooley had a losing record. Dooley was worse.

If thinking this makes you feel better, by all means, my friend.

haha, the AD had to have a meeting with him and OC because he WASN'T doing that last year....after he said he learned his lesson and was going to...
Orgeron is an idiot. Listen to him for two minutes and that's pretty clear. Just about all coaches can at least spew a little coach speak , and it's almost like he's too stupid to even do that lol. I think or 6 or 7 wins for them this year, and hopefully they'll let him hang around another year so that he can further run that program in the ground.

Yea it kills me when people act like butch was a janitor. He failed but did some good things here.
I think he's well below average at this level from a pure football standpoint. He's not good with X's and O's, and I don't think he's good from a fundamentals standpoint. He can recruit pretty good, although I think a lot of folks overrate him on that, and he had Josh Dobbs. If he doesn't have Dobbs I think he's fired after the 2015 season.

Uh... no he didn't. In 2008 he was 11-5 with Matt Cassel. In 2000 he was 5-11. Brady was drafted in 2000 and started in 2001 after the team went 0-2. In 2016 Brady missed 4 games and the team went 3-1.

That means he has been roughly 19-19 without Brady. I'm no Brady apologist but those are some Jeff Fisher-esque numbers sans Brady.
Better to stay with the current team for these purposes imo. He is 13 and 6 when Brady is out. With the same players sans Brady and every thing else being equal he had posted a win percentage of approximately .64 with Brady .74.

We could both make arguments based on these numbers. The year they didn't make the playoffs his backup went 3-1 iirc. That surely isn't the reason they missed the playoffs.

Matt Casell also has a career win percentage of .439. 11-5 is amazing in comparison.

My argument was that Brady has benefitted at least as much from Belichick and I believe that is a solid argument no?

Technically Butch only lost 6 games last year. ;-)
