Glad to see the discussion, everyone. Thanks for checking us out. We're excited about the partnership between us and Rocky Talk. I've got a decade of experience covering college football and I just moved here from Dallas. I'd love to answer any questions you guys have about us or what we do, and our goal is to tell you things you don't know and can't find anywhere else.
For example, I charted every pass Jarrett Guarantano and Keller Chryst threw yesterday. I also spent a week in Jeremy Pruitt's hometown of Rainsville, Alabama for a six-part series looking at his link to his hometown, his days as an MTV reality star, how his playing career forecasted his career in coaching, how he quietly lost 70 pounds early in his coaching career, what went on at Georgia and how his personality has pushed him through the coaching ranks and today, we looked behind the scenes of the Tennessee coaching search from his perspective.
We will be covering recruiting, but with a little more perspective and context beyond just the "he might be going here" that you'll see elsewhere. For instance, I wrote about how Peyton Manning accidentally landed Tennessee Brian Maurer for its 2019 class.
Here's our full Tennessee page, updated anytime there's something new.

I'll be around today if you have any questions. Thanks again for checking us out!
Thanks! And we may be announcing a Titans writer very, very soon. Just a hunch.Well I just joined up for a year but I have to tell you that I don't give a damn about the whole state of Alabama, Georgia or Florida. All I am interested in reading about is my Vols. You can throw in the Titans if you want to. Ahaas grandpa
Was your most recent gig David Campbellās Texas Football? You sound familiar. I peruse that magazine occasionally even tho I donāt support any Texas college teams. Did you escape DFW before most of the heat? Been a particularly brutal summer. Teetering on subscribing but welcome to VN.Glad to see the discussion, everyone. Thanks for checking us out. Iāve known about them for awhile. Gonna claim the internet while youāre down there?
I believe that is one place he contributed. Was your most recent gig David Campbellās Texas Football? You sound familiar. I did. I joined full-time in January and wrote about 80 percent of the college content in this year's magazine and the cover story on why Jimbo Fisher left FSU for A&M. Before that, I was freelancing for The Athletic and (RIP) Sports on Earth. And before that I covered the Big 12 for two years for FOX Sports Southwest and before that, covered the league for ESPN.com for 3.5 years.I believe that is one place he contributed.
I remember doing a Google search on his articles a while back for the same reason, knew he sounded familiar.
You only remember sports writes for 1 of 2 reasons - they're outlandish and click hungry or they write above the norm.
Mr. Ubben seems to just write very well.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm enjoying The Athletic. Great news is that it's only going to get better. It's pretty much what sports journalism used to be...back when you paid an equivalent fee for 12 magazines full of advertising that rarely if ever featured "your team".
The internet spoiled us, then spoiled journalism. Sites were born in early 2000s like govolsxtra, which at first were well worth the money, daily reports and articles, journalists may have actually been overworked and underpaid....for a while. In addition the sites featured forums that allowed fans a voice. It worked in a linear and logical way because kns was already in the business of vol news, and essentially owned that market. For a guy who used to wait with bated breath for football time and rocky top news releases, it gave me immediate up to date info....I loved it.
Then there were competitors, we got flooded with scout, rivals, volquest all wanting a scoop of the info, and piece of the pie, exclusive features and the inevitable watering down of the (already skim milk thin) pool of local journalistic talent and standards began. The pay site concept became untenable, the articles no better than a single moms Facebook musings about her sick cat's vomit on her old baby's new backpack.
And this was even before twitter. So I said, "I'll never pay again!" And most sites were poorly designed ad filled Pavlovian pop up click traps, that I didn't even care to visit for free.
I don't want to click next 11 times to see some 24 year old wannabe hacks idea of "10 things that might surprise you about the new look Vols"
They became a complete waste of time and money.
The Athletic is different.
This is evident in the classy throwbackish title. Its not 24-7ballsoutvolsbitchxtrawoo.
It's the athletic. Not a blog, or a podcast, its an online publication.
And David Ubben does a fine job. Best journalist covering the vols since...well....since...
Hmm, you know we've never really had a good journalist on our side, have we?
Nice. I have a odd obsession with even numbers. I have pictures of my cars odometer reaching numbers like 60,000, 77,777, and of course 100,000. I also have a picture of my old Prius displaying 8675309, lol.It reminds me of that episode of Married with Children where Al got a million miles in his Dodge.
