"When I first got the verdict back in February, I understood the severity of what was going on. But it was comforting that everybody at UT just kept telling me that it wasn't about football, but about my well-being and my life, and not when I was going to get back. They were concerned about me as a person.
Henry Smith said it was only a few weeks ago that Pruitt even mentioned anything about playing football again, and Pruitt has reiterated to Smith that there's no need to rush.
"To me, football was irrelevant in this whole deal," Pruitt said. "We just wanted to make sure that Trey was going to be OK. I'm sure he will have some anxiety over this, even though he's been out there working every day for two months. He just can't have contact. He's been training. He's in shape. He's not going to have to play his way into shape, so that should help him.
"The thing I wanted to make sure of was that everybody was on the same page. I trust our doctors and the people we've sent him to and know they wouldn't do anything that would put any of our players in harm's way."
That’s what the article stated as well. He needs to be cleared via imaging before he can make contact, and they need to allow coagulation to resume after coming off blood thinners.
You didn't read the ESPN article did you? Trey and his family know this is true and decided to play football anyway
It seems that you know what you're talking about here. I appreciate your information. No, he has no guarantee at all. The good news is they have some of the best experts in the world confirming/treating what he has. They will monitor his blood work continually, and he will take the proper precautions. There are people all around us walking around with similar issues untreated. Clotting disorders are no joke, but if they are managed properly the risks can be reduced significantly.
I would recommend reading the ESPN article. It has direct quotes from the doctors and others involved instead of Rucker's takes. The doctors mentioned there's no guarantee but that there would be no guarantee even if he didn't play anymore. I don't think this is a decision that is being taken lightly. And Rucker seems to be trying to put a spin on it TBH.To be honest, I don’t love it for him. I assume he’ll have weekly tests to determine his playing status and that he won’t be allowed to take blood thinners during the season.
It’s scary but all we can do is hope for the best.
