I still think average rating of recruits is far more important than number ranking. Over the past few years we've brought in some higher rated classes than Clemson did, but on average their guys were more highly rated and some of the classes they took were pretty small compared to ours being full and rounded out with some projects.

Florida game mourners and wailers? Peruse.

Probably always will as long as we have one 3 star commit people will freak out and be disappointed with the staff in July before they have even coached a game.

Or as long as we flounder around the middle/bottom tier of the SEC.

I do think what we put on the field this season will go a long way with the higher rates guys we’re going after this year, and next.

I’m not sure I’ll worry about this class unless we start to see flips and a majority of the “top of our board” guys start committing elsewhere.

Until then, cornbread.

Here’s a question. Coach Pruitt is the best defensive coach in college football at causing turnovers. He’s done it everywhere he’s been. We have been awful in that area. How quickly can he impact us in this department? Could we see a big improvement in that area? With all of these passing offenses we are going to have that could help us in a major way
Yes.. it will be an immediate impact. I believe you see some pics in the WVU game. There are a lot of factors but the main difference is that he makes it a mentality of his defense and the scheme puts players in postion to be able to use their ball skills.

The one main difference between this staff and the other staffs TN has had is that when it comes to finding “diamonds in the rough” this staff knows first hand what real, high-level, SEC caliber football players look like as opposed to the last staff who didn’t seem to know that. Also, they seem to have a real strength staff that will develop these guys physically.

Let’s hope there’s a connection to this known gambler and the players.

Article says he was upset over money he lost.

It's not the class ranking by Rivals or 247 that matters. It's the coaches' evals of players, player development, and schemes. Clemson beat Bama for a NC with the #14, #13, #6 and #4 ranked classes per Rivals for 2013-2016. About the same talent Butch had to work with in the same period, but he topped out with 9-4. Bama had #1, #1, #2, and #1 with Saban in the same period, yet still lost to Clemson while destroying Butch's teams. As long as you have the half dozen elite difference makers you can develop the others to the point of being on a level playing field with the top schools that have higher ranked talent coming out of high school. Then it becomes all about scheme and execution.

CJP knows all this. He's a really good football coach as are the members of his coaching staff. Not time to be worrying about recruiting rankings. This 4-8 program has to learn how to win again first. Then the elite recruits will be calling CJP/staff.
