Beat WV and you've got the momentum vs. Florida. The Auburn game is set up perfect with an off week for UT before and Auburn on their 7th straight game, including match-ups against Washington, LSU, Arkansas and Miss State. At this point, I have as much confidence they will beat Auburn as I do WV and the Gators. I'm more worried about USC simply due to how the schedule falls.

Assuming injuries don't have too much of an effect, a big season rides on the WV and Florida games.

A lot of you guys are tempering your expectations more than you should...IMO. :)

I would like to think it too..

But I just can't believe it till I see it. Everytime I get to feeling a little more optimistic...I remember 4-8 and my brain starts replaying images from last year, and I just start thinking that is just too big a mess to fix in one year no matter how good the new coaches are, especially while putting in a totally new defense and offense..BVS is real.

ugh. agreed.:glare:

It's funny, I was so checked out last year that I barely remember it. I remember way more from '16 than '17. Maybe why my BVS cleared up faster. :eek:lol:

6-6

WVU: L
ETSU: W
UTEP: W
UF: W
@ UGA: L
@ Auburn: L
Alabama: L
@ South Carolina: L
Charlotte: W
Kentucky: W
Missouri: L ( I don’t really believe this but I think we’ll lose one of the last 3 so we’ll pick this one.)
@ Vandy: W

it's certainly a path....especially under normal circumstances.

unfortunately it's not normal and my head isn't going to let my heart make the call.

but i do agree, those 1st 4 games are huge as to how the season can play out.

I think of it like this. Recent history isn't really normal for our program. The scenario he proposed is much closer to what we should view as normal than what we have seen recently. Eventually things tend to regress to the mean. Even if you just view the last 5 years. The outlier in the last half decade was last season. I think the previous 3 or 4 years are much more indicative of our baseline than the one outlier that had the most extenuating circumstances with coaching and dysfunction as well as replacing guys like Dobbs, Barnett, Kamara and Sutton. My point is thinking of us winning tough games as not normal, indicates severe BVS and you should maybe see a doctor. :)

I watched them all too. Just wasn't as invested. I usually watch every game at least twice. I didn't do that last year and was usually drunk enough by half time to not remember most of the details of the game. hahahaha

i don't need a doctor when i know what the cure is!!!!:)

in all seriousness, you're right, and usually i tend to think similarly.

i just look at like, while last year was an outlier, agreed, and certainly had it's more than fair share of 'outside influences' as to all the things that caused the end result, i would tend to look at this season going the exact opposite results wise, as an outlier as well, given all the unknowns headed in.

it is what it is. i really don't think that team was a 4-8 team last year. and i really won't be surprised if we beat WVU and/or UF to start the season.

just nothing tangible to point to, yet, to say why that WOULD happen.

We beat UNC in the Gator Bowl.

Would be a very good 1st season. As long as we saw significant improvement of both sides of the ball everyone would be pretty happy heading into year 2.

One common theme I’m noticing in Pruitt’s recruiting is he really loves explosive athletes. All of these “risky” takes we have currently are high motor explosive athletes.

I haven't listened to the podcast yet but that article is really good. Lot's of angles of that discussion that I hadn't really thought about yet. Also a lot of quotes from Pruitt and info about him. Thanks for posting. I think someone else may have posted it the other day too because I recognized a couple quotes but I'm glad you posted again so I could read the whole thing.

No problem. :)
