Your observation about that girlfriend is similar to the reaction Philando Castille's girlfriend had as he was immediately shot.

This is just a unique characteristic of a certain demographic.

No idea why people say **** like this, as if there is some normal way to act after a loved one has just been killed by another human right before your eyes.

Sad situation all the way around. Hearing statements of what was said by both sides would hopefully shed some light on the entire situation, but going by only the available video, here is what I see.

She only exits the car once she sees him come out of the store. Why? Perhaps because she has muscle/backup there now? I see aggression/frustration in how she opens the car door and her posture afterwards. He totally blindsides the guy with that shove down. You can see dude is focused on talking at her. Once he hits the ground, the guy at the store door starts moving in until the firearm becomes involved. Then his bravado exits to the right. I can totally see where a guy is so taken aback by hitting the ground out of nowhere that what he sees upon righting himself is a possible 2 or 3 on 1 situation and now he's in fear of more bodily harm. It appears when he draws that he first sweeps her then moves to the guy that shoved him. Hard to tell from camera angle if he knew the guy was actually turning away or if it appeared to him that he might have been going for a weapon.

Now on the other hand, I see dude walk to the back of the car to check the tag. Then he motions around at empty spaces that are not only available but also directly in front of the store. At this point he just becomes a jerk by staying and beating that horse. You aren't a LEO and there appears to be no reason to become that involved with it, other than being a busybody/bully. Get the tag, say your peace about empty spots and go report it. Everybody lives another day.

Again, sad situation that should never have happened.

Simply put, you don’t always know who you’re forking with, so it’d be better for everyone to STHU and go on about their business. If the “hero” didn’t use unnecessary force, I’d guess with 99.9%+ certainty, he’d still be alive.

Being a “badass” for lil’ momma has a price. He paid for it with an ego, in exchange for a pine box nap.

Let the legal system figure it out. My guess, he will get manslaughter, at most.

If the shooter hadn't started a verbal altercation with the victim's gf, I'm 100% certain this wouldn't have happened. Do you think the shooter would have acted so brazenly if he wasn't emboldened by the fact he knew he had a gun? I believe the shooter acted in an irresponsible manner. His actions created the situation that led to the death of a man simply standing up for his significant other.

This isn't an argument for or against guns or the 2A. This is about being responsible for your actions. The shooter created a situation in which he had to "stand his ground". In my mind, it was murder. Self defense is when you find your life threatened in a situation beyond your making. That's not what happened here. The shooter provoked the entire thing.

If there really is a witness (a trucker) to Drejka (the shooter) having threatened someone with a gun over parking in a handicapped spot in the past? That is highly relevant to this situation.

At the very least, Drejka is going to be facing a civil lawsuit for wrongful death.

We can back track even further, if the eventual victim didn’t park in the spot illegally, would the eventual shooter have instigated the confrontation? Most likely not, at least not over illegal parking (presumably).

I’m not taking sides, just calling a spade a spade. All involved acted inappropriately, it just happened to lead to an entirely preventable death.

Markeis, if you want to be honest, appeared to exemplify the “badass” persona, too. So, regardless of what got the altercation to that point, his ego compounded the situation.

Did you see justification for him to react in that manner, and physically assault the other man? From what we can tell in the footage, not no, but HELL NO! Conversely, if it is confirmed that Markeis was not armed with a weapon, it strengthens the argument for overreaction by the shooter, even though split second decisions shouldn’t be held under the posthumous microscope of WAS/WASN’T armed. That’s an after the fact condition, not an “oh, sh!t, is this guy armed” moment.

All good points. All I can say is the dead guy took it to the physical level. He could have stood up for hi woman without resulting to physical violence. He could have just given him a good cussing. The shooter never got physical, he never even remotely got physical staying several feet away from the car. The women starts getting out of the car so that tells me she wasn't intimidated by him.

We don't have audio so we don't know how the conversation went. Was he civil when he asked her about it or was he an ass?

Does someone who is not a law enforcement officer or security guard or the proprietor have any business confronting someone over illegally parking? That is ridiculous. If it bothered Drejka so much, he should have just taken a picture of the car with tags (minus placard) while illegally parked and reported it to the proper authorities. That is what a reasonable person would have done.

It was not his place to confront the driver. Take a picture of the car and report it. Having a gun, doesn't make you a cop.

Parking in that spot wasn't a necessary trigger for Barney Fife to exit his car to confront them. He initiated contact, not the "morons."

This isn't even being a "Barney Fife". At least Barney was a cop. This is going full Charles Bronson vigilante justice over a freaking parking space. Dumb.

I wouldn’t have said anything. But that doesn’t matter. They shouldn’t have parked there.

Had the morons not parked there the one moron would still be alive. Also the dead moron initiated physical contact. Barney’s words apparently hurt too much.

It does matter. It will matter when this incident inevitably results in a civil trial. Don't act like a cop unless you are one.

All the adults have blame.

The kids are the only victims here. Extrapolating from this video, they were victims long before this incident happened.

It all depends on what he said. I mean if he was rude and confrontational, yea I agree. But if he said something like, "You know, there are people that really need that spot. ". Then I don't think that would be a terrible thing to say. Since we don't have audio we don't know what was said.

That being said, what's ironic is that there are much better parking spots close to the front door that were available.

That is absolutely ridiculous. The now-dead guy saw someone (not in a law enforcement uniform) yelling at his girlfriend and he responded the way many other 28 year old men would. I'm not saying that's good judgement - just reality. This whole incident was ignited by a wannabe cop who should have just:

1) Taken a picture.
2) Stopped by the local station on the way home.
3) And washed his hands of the matter.

Drejka may not pay for this with time behind bars... but he has a civil suit coming his way. I would bet on that.
