Answered your question in another thread. We’re at the 25 limit on counters if Peterson makes it in...so no room. I wouldn’t grouse. I started a thread about the Jalen Hurd article and it got moved to the NCAA forum. 3 hours later, another poster started the same exact thread...still on here. :)

Thanks for the info, butchna. I was just giving Ron a hard time.

He hasn't said yet. Bama 247 had a recent article about him and bamas potential interest after losing several LBs this summer. They have Coach Klug that coached Brady at Mizzu so that could be a factor.

How in the world would Bama have room?

I honestly don't see how anybody can equate anything of last year's performance to what will happen this year other than some of the same players being on both rosters. There is nothing else the same in our program other than the facilities at UT - and some of that has even changed such as the weight room.

As anybody who has actually played the sport at any level knows - the addition or removal of a small handful of players each year can produce radically different results on the field. You don't need 22 new guys to get past a 4-8 season. They were 9-4 the two years before even with the incompetent brick layer. Now they have a highly competent coaching staff and S&C guy - not the UC Bearcats finest. They've added talented guys who can play the game, one being an alpha dog who got hurt early last season who hated Butch. JJ has made huge plays in the past and he will again. The removal of the let's just have fun coaching and playing is a major addition through subtraction. Trey Smith, Kennedy, etc. in the O-line with other guys a year stronger and more experienced. Talented RBs and WR's everywhere. Upper classmen loaded defensive front 7 with Warrior in the roaming Star position. Maybe you don't thing Chryst is the answer at QB - but he can dang sure push JG to perform better. It's time to start to showing some pride and belief in the program again.

As rekinhavoc posted - cut to the chase on WVU. Grier does not have a UF level of talent around him and he is not going against Butch this time. They beat nothing last season and have a lot of holes in their roster. We are underdogs simply because none of the people making spreads has a clue about what we will put on the field. I sincerely doubt we are going to put a bunch of lightweights on the field to be pushed around by WVU. Even Butch was able to beat Va Tech, and they are a better program than WVU.

I teared up reading this.

Thanks. That was a really good article and worth reading the entire thing. I found this quote really interesting too.

With all the players in Top 20 classes that Butch Jones signed, although some were terrific players, a larger percentage of those players either left the program early or haven’t produced to expectations.

So how different will this Tennessee roster be constructed moving forward starting with the recruiting evaluation process that’s already begun with the new coaching staff?

“The evaluation is much more intense,” Simmons says. “The guys are much more scrutinized. I think Jeremy Pruitt’s staff is not just sort of taking a bunch of in-state guys because they are highly regarded and trying to build momentum. Because of that, I think you got a group of guys, only 12 commits right now, but a ways to go yet. I think they’re guys that fit. If anything they’ll outplay their ranking as opposed to underperforming their ranking which is something we grew accustomed to seeing under Butch Jones.”

I don't know their number situation but they had a Lb dismissed last month and then as of a week or 2 a RS SR veteran LB decided he isn't coming back this yr sounded like he was pursuing MLB baseball career.

Those two don’t affect counters for the 25. He’d take Jordan Davis’s counter for the academic year and count against the 19 class.

see, i agree with this all the way around. short of predicting the future, the thing that has stood out to me about the guys this staff goes after is that regardless of their ranking, every single one of them "look the part".

i made the comment a few months ago, that if nothing else, when we go to practice, the guys we'll practicing against will at least "LOOK LIKE" they guys we'll be playing on Saturdays.

i don't want to say that the pre season analysis of TN for 2018 is lazy, cause it's not exactly a leap to say that 4-8 team that had it's season end so spectacularly bad as ours did, probably won't have a great year the next year....

but...there is sooooo much new, such a departure from not only last year, but really the last 3, that i'm almost of the belief now that there's zero chance it won't be better. maybe a lot better....it's still relative. "a lot" better could be defined as 7 wins in the regular season, with a chance at 8 in a bowl.

there's no law out there that says we can't win a game, or two, that we're maybe not supposed to. teams do it every year.

why not us this year? go beat WVU, FL. or Auburn. or USCe. or all 4.:) predictions be damned. we've not met predictions or expectations at all the last 10 years.

I see no reason to stop the trend now. GBO.

Too much common sense in this post for the nega's to comprehend. If your last season was an indicator for the following season, we wouldn't have went 4-8 to begin with. Each season is its on. Couple that with a new coaching staff (head to toe) with a winning pedigree. We are going bowling and we will finish top 4 in the east

Really like Shrout’s HS film

There are some things that need to be fixed but he’s got the arm talent and isn’t afraid to lower the shoulder and sacrifice his body. Good traits to have.

I prefer the term pessimistic to nega. I am somewhat pessimistic about this seasons win totals, but I am not negative about the future of UT under Pruitt.

SIAP: Here is the Ohio St Coach someone mentioned earlier.

The bottom row has the expected starters for WVU's offensive line. I think its widely accepted that unless a guy is an exceptional talent like Trey Smith offensive linemen don't need to see the field until their 3rd year at the earliest. WVU is okay there but compare the talent of our 15 guys to their starters.
